Made this to capture the scene where Luna and Celestia task Twilight Sparkle with her test in the first episode of S3. The screenshot looks a bit different, but I'm not sure how to get the banding in the gradient and still have it look good.

Update: Fixed a small fill error thanks to ~MillennialDan for pointing that out.
Finished this picture two weeks ago. It was intended to be part of something bigger. With different character reactions to what we see here being added. Things have been happening, and I cannot dedicate the time I want to finish this.
Basically inspired by the idea of "What if Luna could regain the NMM powers, and attempted to control them for the benefit of Equestria, despite their re-use ending in her own downfall?". I can, for some reason, see her doing that. Not caring for her own well being, aslong as it can ensure victory/better outcome for Equestria.
Also, the concept of her struggling to keep control is interesting to me.
Dearest sister... I have allowed myself to stay in your shadow for far too long. Tonight, our subjects shall truly appreciate the beauty of the night. For the sun will never rise again, and the night shall reign eternal!
Luna, please... Don't make me do this...
Luna had finally reached her breaking point in regards to the ponies always ignoring her night sky. She paced about her room, putting the last pieces of her plan together. If their subjects didn't want to see how beautiful the night sky was, she would make them see it. As cruel as it seemed, they would wake up to a world where night was all-encompassing, and could not be ignored. The door to her room swung open, and in the doorway stood her sister. Her plans needed to change to accommodate for this snag.
I decided to make this drawing to visually 'counter' the Celestia drawing I created a couple of weeks ago, which can be found here: [link]. It's been sitting in the back of my mind as an idea, and I just had to draw it in between studying for exams.
As you can see, Luna is already beginning to turn into Nightmare Moon. I figured she was about the same size as Celestia before her transformation and subsequent rescue by Twilight and company.
That's right! Luna loves playing in her Dreamcast, especially titles like Ikaruga, Daytona USA 2001 (Rooolliiinng sttaaaaaarrrtt) and Outtrigger. One of my favorite consoles, unfortunately did not last long, but their games are excellent. I hope you like it!
"What's the matter, Luna?" "Why does everypony still hate me?" "Nopony hates you, Luna. I am your sister and I will always love you. The ponyfolk were overjoyed that you returned to us after such a long absence." "That's not true and you know it! They hate me! They're just too scared to say anything for fear I'll bring about eternal night again. Why didn't Cadance want me to come to her wedding? How come no-one told me that you were hurt? Why didn't I get to go the Grand Galloping Gala?" As Luna continued, the reason for her sadness suddenly clicked to Celestia. "Oh dear. Nightmare Moon has been speaking to you again, hasn't she?" "... Yes. She won't leave me alone, Tia. She's in my head. She's always there when I'm alone, laughing at me. And... what she says is always true."
Finally I managed to achieve a pose I've wanted to do for months - having a taller pony resting their head of top of the smaller pony's head. You can't really see it, but Celestia is leaning on Luna; using her as a support for her front body. Equines aren't bipedal.
