December 21st Marks the End of Civilization

Who would you invite to your final deviantMEET or dinner party on that fateful day?

W

e are facing yet another grave prediction that we are in the true end of days this year and this time, this time, we have been inundated with five years worth of investigative shows, frightful books, and alarmist interviews outlining evidentiary “proof” that this is the one date on the calendar, certified by a now vanished people in what is now the jungles of Mexico, that humanity will not escape.

The one fateful day has been carved in stone, forged in blood, aligned with the stars and set in motion thousands of years ago by learned men. There is a most intriguing science lesson from MAD magazine; in the introduction to an article on the dark art of palm-reading, the text stated: “of course, any 7-year-old could explain that wrinkles appear on hands from folding them… but since we don’t have a seven-year-old here today, let’s continue with our idiotic premise.” So, with the same logical acuity, let’s decide that so many websites couldn’t all be wrong, and so the Mayan Doomsday is real.

Now... If the entire list of humanity were at your disposal for one final grand soiree on the way to oblivion, with whom would you prefer to spend your last few hours?

Family and friends? Scientists and/or religious leaders? Maybe celebrities like rock stars and movie stars?

Then again, maybe there’s that one enigmatic figure you’d want to have all to yourself for your last conversation, e.g., the Dalai Lama, Bob Dylan, David Beckham (this last one maybe not just to talk to)? There are only a few days left until one of the great “Mystic events” days is proven out one way or the other. Just enough time to get those invitations out!

C

ontemplating the decline and ultimate demise of a society’s reign on the planet whether it be the Mayans, Atlanteans, or Romans demands a certain level of retrospective analysis of the historical event by our scientists, academics and thinkers. But, to imagine the end of the Earth in one fell swoop within one day’s time will require a whole other level of forensic evaluation and interpretation should sentient beings from other worlds come upon our planet’s civilizations in ruins and try to divine what might have been here and just what our diverse societies were up to.  Just as we unearth an entire community in the deserts or mountains of a remote region and begin the process of piecing together the everyday life of a people forgotten, so shall the space gods or our time traveling future-selves come upon remnants and begin the same process.

There is a tried and true thesis altering, eye-opening notion that is used by teachers when discussing a multitude of subjects including critical thinking, philosophy, politics, comparative religion, organizational behavior, and many others; in one hundreds years from this moment there likely will be all new people on the planet. Every one of us replaced with the next. But consider this even more startling "truth" that one day far, far into the future of existence the sun really will die out and all will perish (unless we... well that's what sci-fi is for).

Even with the certainty that all of the world's art, music, and literature will be wiped away, even though we are only here for a short while, we must continue to create, paint, write, build, compose, sculpt, choreograph, carve and photograph to our greatest abilities. If, one day, there is indeed only a ghost of us left in the cosmos — perhaps in the form of a few “cave drawings” inside our abandoned intergalactic escape ships — it is still our duty to treasure our time and leave this world a more manageable, loving, less painful place than when we got here.

Hey, Everyone! News from NASA!

I

techgnotic of deviantART, without Mayan heritage unless they also ran Italy and Ireland back in the day, promise you that the world will not end this Friday December 21st. If you are worried at all that any of this might be true please know that you are going to be fine and the world will go on. I promise. Please make plans for a wonderful Saturday morning and enjoy your weekend. And if this greatly disappoints you… well, maybe from here forward the world will embrace you instead.

You hated this. You hated every minute of it. You hated it so much that you actually pulled a fuse, causing some wires to snap in half. And after that, your arm fell off. Right in the middle of Megatron's rants about the audo bots, your arm just fell off and landed with a thud. Right on the table. In front of everyone. Enegron dripped out from the now open gap. Starscream snickered as you looked at your detached part in shock. Hearing the laughing seeker frustrated you, and with your good arm, pointed a missile at the seeker and shot right at his arm. Blowing it clean off. He screamed in shock. "Keep laughing you piece of scrap!" You spat, another missile ready to fire if needed. "Why you little-!" Megatron slammed his servo against the table. "SILENCE YOU WORTHLESS SCUM!"Starcream flinched away. Fear of his leader gripped at him as he lowered his arm. You though, were not afraid. With a sharp glare you started yelling at Megatron. "SCUM?! ME!? HOW DARE YOU, YOU PATHETIC MECH!" Knockout raised a brow, this should be interesting. "WHILE YOUR RANTING ABOUT PRIME, HIM AND HIS AUTO BOT SCUM IS PROBABLY PREPARING TO ATTACK!" "HOW DARE YOU DOUBT ME FEMMEN! YOUR THE WORTHLESS SOLDER,  IM MEGATRON, LEADER OF A SUPREME ARMY! YOUR THE WORTHLESS LITTLE-" It went like that for about 5 minutes, until you began to feel lightheaded. Your optics flickered, as you swayed back and forth. "(Your name)? " megatron took a step forward, when you crashed to the floor. You had lost to much energon.

(Medics office)

Surprisingly megatron had carried you to knockouts office. Once you came to, your arm had been re-attached. "IMAGINE MY HORROR WHEN MY ARM JUST FALLS OFF!" You could hear starscreams annoying voice echo through the med bay. "Oh a tragedy." Knockout mumbled, not really paying attention to the seeker. "Oh will you shut the slag up already, your giving me a headache!" You screamed from your room. Before Starscream could make a come back, knockout closed the door to your room, silencing the seeker. "Gald your awake." Knockout chuckled as he approached the med berth that you were currently resting on. "Sadly i am hehe-oww!" You gripped your side in pain. "Dont move to much, turns out Your arm wasn't the only thing that fell off." You sighed. "You have heard of a heat cycle, correct?" Your optics widened in horror. "I know it all to well doc, why?" You gazed at the medic as he read some panels. "You had blown a fuse from stress, the part that was blown was your filtering processing unit, along with you hard drive. Which is why you have such a head ache by the way." "Yea so? What about it?" Knockout gripped his chin as he read the data pan. "Well because of the blown fuse, the aroma for your heat cycle was released, also known as your filtering possessor. You'll start to feel the affects soon. Why do you think i put you in a separate room?" You absorbed the information that was givin to you...one thought crossed your hard drive. 'Shit'. "Why didnt you...well...ya know... acted out or anything?" Knockout sighed and rolled his optics. "I wouldn't be a medic if I was THAT susceptible to heat cycles. If I was going to jump your circuits I would have done it already." You sighed in relief. "What about the others?" Knockout glaced at you from the data pad. "I'd stay clear of them for awhile, sense your heat cycle was activated early, it'll have more of an affect, it will also last longer, about three earth day longer." You looked away. "Fantastic.." you huffed. Well looks like you'll be here for awhile. "Ill have to leave soon too..." knockout was puzzled, Megatron wouldn't allow you to stay here for one earth month and three days...he'll have to think of a good reason. "Megatron might not agree..." Your spark dropped. "Dont tell him." You mumbled. "I wont." You Layed back down, thinking on how you'll get through this. Heat cycles not only affects mechs, but it will affect you. You'll feel pain in your port, and there's nothing you can do about it. Knockout gave a 'tch' sound and placed the data pad on the shelf next to you. "If i were you, i'd stay as far away as you can from lord Megatron. He may be our leader but he was originally a gladiator, he doesn't have much self control, so if he were to smell the aroma from your heat cycle he would instantly interface with you." Knockout sighed. "And i wouldn't know how he would react if he found out he had fragged you." You shifted to the right, you began to feel....uncomfortable." knockout noticed and pressed the button next to the door. "Ill check up on you now and then, this will be a long month for both Of us." And with that knockout left. Leaving you and your thoughts to yourself.

Sakura's temper has often been linked to her being this "horrible demon bitch" who cares for no one but sasuke and herself -____-  and again I'm here to tell you guys just how wrong the people who believe that are and to inform you (Sakura Fans) how to disprove this theory.

Sakura Haruno can be described as many things "Bitch" is not one of them.

She is a caring girl, she cares for her teammates. We all know she cares for Sasuke, but she's shown how much she cares for naruto too.

Sakura's kindness to Naruto

Sakura even in part 1 was conscious of naruto and how he was feeling, she also wanted to cheer him up.

Not wanting to see his dream get crushed.

Here we see sakura with Kakashi as they exchanged glances showing how they believe in Naruto even when everyone else doubts him.

Wanting him to prove to everyone how great he is.

Sakura giving Naruto loving/caring smiles while he's not looking.

Sakura's caring heart, tightens at the thought of Naruto's pain and suffering.

She wants to help him, but always feels like she can't help enough

Again she shows her caring side for naruto.

Kishi planned this scene to show readers that Sakura is taking priority in Naruto's feelings instead of her own, and that she's doing unconsciously. She's questioning her own actions, feeling confused on why is she trying to help him when she feels really bad herself. She needs cheering up just as much as him, Tsunade is her sensei and a type of mother figure to her.

Sakura's kindness to Shinobi and Civilians

she heals anyone who needs it, whether she knows them or not.

She is willing to put herself in danger for others

Saves the village from one of pain's summons and then heals the little girl, making sure she is ok

Takes a sword to the abdomen for Chiyo and then insists that she takes the last antidote, knowing full well that she is now poisoned and would die without the antidote

Tries to stop Naruto, wishing to take his burden from him.

and then of course there are moments of kindness towards complete strangers

giving candy to the young girl who was begging

allowing the two unknown shinobi to be heal even if it risked her safety.

"Sakura punches Naruto, she's a horrible bitch"

Ok, I understand where this is coming from and I wouldn't blame you IF we weren't shown that sakura's punches aren't that bad.  Now sakura is really strong. (www.narutoforums.com/blog.php?… <<< this is an awesome mathematical formula to show sakura's true strength, it's amazing, go read it.) But sakura isn't using this monstrous strength on Naruto. You know what i'd be worried about? if they were like her other punches.

Or if the results of her punches were like Karui's

Sakura does punch Naruto, but it is never intended to seriously hurt him, it's more of a warning for him when he crosses a line like Kushina did (is Kushina an evil bitch? no)

Let us not forget that they are ninjas, they can handle this kind of thing, they manage to still get back up and fight like it's nothing with much worse injuries.

Thank you for reading

One of the downs of being a freelancer is when people think you dont work at all.
They think you are Bruce wayne or something, normal people just looks at you and say: "so...you're basically unemployed all the time and live at expense of your parents".
i understand how people who isnt in the art/design industry can think like that, i guess many of them (not all) just see work like dressing up, goin to an office to work from sun to sun, doing shity tasks they hate, just to come home to sleep and wish for an early saturday, so, anyone not doing that is simply a parasite.

Anyway, im cool with that, if i have had chosen a different life style, maybe i'd be one of those people, who knows.
What bothers me, is when friends or close people, think that.

I work mostly at night...all night, until 8 am, and i have a 9 month old son, so...even if i wanted to, there's not much time to rest, and when you decide to become a freelancer to pay bills then shit gets serious, because its not like when you live with your parents where you have food and free internet, and work is only to pay stuff you want, like an xbox and shit like that, its not like setting aside work to draw personal stuff whenever you feel bored...it isnt like:  "yeah, work will come in time yay!"...NO, its not like that, you have to constantly look for it, and if you dont have then you just do something else, but you have to be allways aware that you are your own boss and no one is gonna find jobs for you.

and when your friends dont take that serious...it really sets me off.
It is quite dissapointing and sad.

Im sick of people thinking they can just dispose of my time as if i had nothing to do...im not prancing arround, telling people where i work, with whom i work, WHEN im working...its not me, shit, I have 24 and i have never cared about publishing my own artwork anywhere (i just started this year), all i have published is thanks to friends or invitations i never asked for (wich i appreciate tons) and i dont even make a fuss about it, i recently (less than a month ago) did my Artistic facebook and besides DA, has allways been the only social network i use to promote my work...do you think im the type of person who will just say HEYYY, IM WORKING ON A MAGAZINE FOR A TACO RESTAURANT  IN MY CITY! WOOOOHOOOOOO!!!

NO. im not saying that whomever does that is wrong, not at all, but that's just me, i dont talk about the boring part of my work, wich is everything exept drawing.

Most of My friends know my working hours, mostly cause they want to call home and know when im awake (usually i sleep from 8am to 1pm, cause i have to take care of my son when my husbands goes to work) and they know what i do for living...many of them respect that and find my lifestyle weird, but they respect it anyway...some others dont, some others just choose to toss everything i say into the trash bin and act like if i was fucking Athina onassis, living like a nearly homeless person just by choice.

They do things, and say things that makes me feel bad, like if everything i do was just pointless and had no value. I dont care about what other people say about me, but what my friends think and say do matters.

Sorry...i dont know what i just said but i had to say it, since it happened today :/

The Age of Discernment

Wed Aug 1, 2012, 8:13 PM by techgnotic:icontechgnotic:

With great access comes the great responsibility of discernment.

→ This article was inspired by the conversation in the comments generated from last week’s Suggestivism article.

As we traverse the final phases of maximum raw information accumulation, potentially equipping us for jacking in to the promise of the Singularity, the contents of many lifetimes’ worth of knowledge, art, education, and history are now at our fingertips. More and more Universities, libraries and arts institutions have swung open their digital doors and granted access to their lectures, courses and curricula free of charge to anyone in the world with a connection to the web. Access to education is fundamentally shifting our society towards an unmappable future.

Here at deviantART there seems to be a new age dawning as well. deviantART has always provided an artist to artist education for new and developing artists. But more and more artists, both amateurs and professionals of all levels, are using deviantART as a real resource and platform in the creation and exhibition of their personal art gallery rather than just a place to exhibit their own works. And the arts conversation on deviantART runs across all race, religion, social classes, age, gender and education levels. Participants in this grand conversation often include the elites in their chosen medium as well as artists just creating their first sketches. The sheer amount of art categories on dA is breath-taking, the scope of beauty and imagination within each of those categories unparalleled.

But is there a danger to all information – and all art – being right at the fingertips? Will we lose sense of what is bad, good, better and best art? Will art become just one process or activity, rather than the occasional expression of the miraculous that it sometimes is? What will become of our powers of discernment in the flood of information? Rather than becoming self-satisfied about all the great art now just a click away, maybe we should start trying to decide what meaning art should have in our lives, as well as what art is meaningful for our future. Important things in how we are beginning to communicate as one worldwide community of peoples are happening just beneath the surface. Now may be the time when more, not less, thoughtfulness should be deployed in discerning which art means the most to you as an artist or art appreciator?

We seem to have come to a major societal “look before you leap” moment. Shall we just keep technologically cannonballing forward, full steam ahead to wherever our digital momentum takes us? Or is it time to pump the brakes and start a serious conversation about whether or not the fundamental shift in the technology of our society should usher in a new fundamental shift in the values of our society.

So the great question confronts us all, and with each day it becomes less hypothetical and more urgent: With the advent of universal access to all information all of the time how will we decide to personally sort or categorize content or make preferences or align to and thus create global values? Will we be able to take the new responsibility thrust into our hands and really do the right thing? Will we choose the global over the personal? Will we start making choices with an eye toward our digital information-based “footprints” - - the record of our choices - - and the unintentional fallout as they become votes and statistics affecting other choices for the unseen populace of the World Wide Web?

We now have just about all the information we’re ever going to need to make a real change in this world. The ability to discern what in that information is important and which takes priority is the new challenge of our age.

QuestionsFor the Reader

  1. Does the sheer amount of art becoming more and more available for your perusal give you a sense of excitement – or a feeling of being overwhelmed and anxious that you’ll never be able to take it all in?
  2. Do you think you personally have enough of a power of discernment to be able to separate important and meaningful from superfluous art?
  3. While being able to discern between what is “important” and what is “fun” art, is it your feeling that frivolous art meant simply for enjoyment is just as important as more substantial meaningful art?
  4. What if anything will be the personal impact on your life of the arrival of the Singularity in regard to your relationship with the arts?

Legacy of The Lens

Fri Mar 22, 2013, 8:13 PM

A study in artistic diversity, Bernardo Medina embodies the renaissance spirit of the consummate artist, always inspired and inspiring artists around him to create and capture the rhythms of life and beauty in a multitude of mediums.

At the core is his love and dedication to the realism in captured moments of humanity that only the lens of photography can provide. With a background in architecture and design underpinning his artistic journey, Bernardo joined deviantART almost a decade ago and in that time has generated a formidable and impressive body of work on his own but also through collaborative endeavors with the other members of the deviantART community. He serves as a model of not only individual personal dedication to his art – but as an artist ever ready to share from his vast reservoir of spiritual support with any deviants or other artists who need only ask.

Bernardo specializes in building teams of artists to realize his visions when imagining public spaces filled with artwork, media, and inspiration. On a recent notable project he worked with devilicious on bringing the interior of a 25,000 sq ft nightclub to devious life. On this, as with his other creations, much of the graphics, photography, modeling, design concepts, and artworks are sourced from dA when building massive public projects.

Many are most familiar with Bernardo’s work from his collaborations and photographic journeys in association with National Geographic that have yielded such absolutely beautiful imagery.  He manages to capture the human condition and the global pulse of our living planet in an unvarnished and dramatic yet life-affirming manner. His images rank with the very best of what has made National Geographic the touchstone and authority in naturalist photography since before most of us were born.

But of all his most treasured collaborative work, Bernardo cites as his most enduring, fulfilling and inspiring the projects he shares with his son Tomas, teemoh. Like father – like son: Tomas also began his photographic journey on deviantART. Whereas Bernardo’s life in photography has focused on capturing moments in the natural world, Tomas, with his background in video and graphic design, is achieving great things in experimenting with light, form and sound. The father & son team is currently collaborating on a media show, “My Thailand Story.” Theirs is the sort of professional and spiritual relationship that best defines and illustrates in living practice what the deviantART experience and community is all about.

Interview with Bernardo Medina

techgnotic:

When did you first realize that deviantART was becoming your support system in your artistic endeavors?

foureyes:

When I started meeting many talented artists in deviantART, passionate about their work and about sharing it. They have been truly inspirational during the last 10 years. I come to deviantART every day. As an evolving community, it has a rhythm of it's own. In a world saturated with social media, deviantART remains true to it's original intent, connecting people through art. DeviantART has always been a reflection of new art trends, what's new, what's viral. In the modern world of business it is useless to be a creative original thinker unless you can share what you create and benefit from it.

techgnotic:

Can you tell us a bit about your formal education and how it relates to the knowledge gained from an online community of photographers?

foureyes:

Architect by education. We have a Studio of Design and Construction in Texas. Photography is a source of inspiration for my architectural projects. It lets me play with the perception of the outside world, it's structures, forms, colors, illusions and cliches!

DeviantART artist/friends work with us on the artistic part of the architectural projects we do: graphics, photography, modeling, design concepts. The collab and team work is awesome!

Recently we worked with deviantART's devilicious on a 25,000 sq. ft. night club project in Fort Worth, Texas. We produced many deviantART inspired images. Her visual concepts had a unique deviant flair. Working with devilicious (Mary) is Nirvana!

techgnotic:

Would you like to shed some light on your relationship with National Geographic?

foureyes:

Over the last few years some of my images have received photography awards and I've traveled with Nat Geo a couple of times. We are currently working on a multi-media show that includes a photography exhibit in Houston with The TAT ( Thailand Tourism Authority ) of the 2012 Thailand trip.

techgnotic:

Do you feel like you’re an ambassador for the arts ethos of deviantART when you’re working in Thailand, etc?

foureyes:

A humble ambassador! It's always great when you have a deviantART friend tell you that your work inspired their creativity, or that they traveled to a certain place after seeing my photo.

techgnotic:

What do you tell young artists about making best use of the human resources of arts communities as they begin building their careers?

foureyes:

Connect, connect, connect with artist-friends. The sorcery and charm of sharing our view of the world make it one of the most treasured of all creative arts. Access to talented and creative people is to modern business what access to coal and iron once was to steelmaking.

techgnotic:

Can you name a photographer on deviantART whose work you admire?

foureyes:

We have followed jsmonzani for many years. The range of his work is inspiring. His work mixes photography, graphic design and cinema, and we like that!

techgnotic:

What relationship do you see between the magic of art and the business of art?

foureyes:

To be a successful entrepreneur, one needs a vision of one's work. If we dream, we will be inspired beyond the straight jacket of the everyday world. There is a profound connection between art and enterprise, which allows businesses to overcome its limitations and break the rules. Creativity is the cutting edge of the art business.

techgnotic:

Do you have future projects in mind in collaboration with your son?

foureyes:

We're working on a media show: "My Thailand Story."

techgnotic:

Can you talk about the arc of a father and son collaboration?

foureyes:

My son Tomas (teemoh) joined deviantART 9 years ago. He went to film and photography school and now we work together on special projects. It's awesome! He is driven to create and has a passion for engaging with clients to turn their visions into striking images. As a video-photographer and graphic designer, he is working on several media projects experimenting with light, form & sound – the world in motion!

techgnotic:

How has your Dad's arc as a photographer influenced your career personally and professionally?

teemoh:

It’s very exciting to be a part of a creative family.  It gave me the tools to create my own vision of the world.  Professionally, it's a great start if you have 4 eyes!

techgnotic:

Can you talk a bit about your current camera set up and also offer some travel tips for the young photographer about to set out on a first trip as a paid photographer?

teemoh:

We like Canon Equipment, and we travel light, but bring very selective gear to cover any lighting  condition.

techgnotic:

Have you ever instantly known when you’ve captured the death of the perfect moment?

teemoh:

Yes. Sometimes you can feel that instantly! But also, many great photographs are made only after observing a subject, learning when it looks best, and returning to photograph it at its most spectacular. This is how you make anything look extraordinary.
