Singapore Trip + AFA 2011This trip is so awesome that I don't even know where and how to begin. Haha! Basically, this trip was my "prize" for passing my Nursing board exam in one try. However, getting pocket money was a whole different story. Haha! I had to go through great lengths just to get money. It was reaaaaally hard... especially when you're a non-working graduate who has this really expensive thing as a hobby. Haha...! So anyway, I was with my mom and my cousin going here... and basically, here's the report. xDSingapore Trip + AFA 20112 years ago in Personal More Like This
I. Day I (11-10-11)
Our flight was scheduled on six in the morning. Truth be told, I wasn't able to sleep at all. It wasn't really because of excitement. I wanted to sleep. I had my eyes closed at around 11pm, but I ended up tossing and turning over and over. I had my eyes closed but I knew I was awake. I couldn't find a comfortable position to be in and by the time I decided to open my eyes (coz I got annoyed that I couldn't sleep), it was already one in the morning... and I was supposed to wak
A Word on WeatheringA lot of people have been asking me how I did the weathering on my armor. The weathering was done using the sponge/rag technique. First, I would take black acrylic and dab it with a sponge and rub it all over the armor, section by section, covering every square inch. Then, after letting it sit for a moment, I would rub it off with a rag. If I wanted to remove more, I would wet the rag. Then I would repeat the process with brown acrylic. Then, after all said and done, the streaks and edges were done with a silver leafing pen.A Word on Weathering2 months ago in Personal More Like This
A word on getting "that look". The point of weathering is that the armor does not look brand spanking new. You shouldn't weather your armor with a specific pattern in mind (unless you are airbrushing and are very skilled). The point of dirt and wear and tear is that it is supposed to be random, so don't fret if the weathering deviates from what you envisioned. But, you should take into account of things like gravity, where the bottom might be more dirtier than the t

Sword and dagger of Rai - Lamento TutorialSwiish!Sword and dagger of Rai - Lamento Tutorial1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Tonight I'm going to continue my daily prop tutorials with some basic sword and dagger making.
What do we need:
-Cardboard (thick one, around 3mm-4mm)
-Carpet knife
-Black fake leather (half meter)
-Some paper balls which you get from a crafts store
-Thread
-Normal paper glue and hot glue
-One wooden stick (1cmx1cmx1m)
-Dremel or similar machine
-Cotton wool fabric
-Citadel paints, black, golden and silver.
-Small brush
And a few hours of free time!
Our mission is to make these two props, a sword and a dagger!
(right on the photo) Google Lamento - Rai if you wanna know more about the original.
We will start with drawing the patterns on a paper or straight on the cardboard sheet:
Then we can continue with cutting 'em out:
WIP vol.2 (Chest plate)Yo!WIP vol.2 (Chest plate)2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I made a chest plate body and some shoes today.
Because this is going to be a quite long WIP, I'm only going to post chest plate WIP tonight.
Shoes are coming up tomorrow.
Oh lol, this chest plate almost drove me nuts.
First time making this kind of stuff.
And second time making a cosplay out of wonderflex!
Oh well, I bet you all gonna laugh.
But wanna know how I made it?
I taped myself with wonderflex, heated myself in front of a mirror with a hot air blower and ran in a bathtub full of cold water
Oh lol.
I think it took me about 10 hours to cut, shape and paint it.
Here ya go, a bunch of WIP photos for everyone. I hope you can get some tips!
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask me
Oh some lovely patterns are the first thing to do.
Warm it up and shape it a bit.
More shaping and taping.
Best weight in the world, a bottle of beer.
Oh trying out some ornaments and stuff. Also made some collar testing.
Lock system. A total of 8 locks in the chest plate armor

Working!
My fabric! It needs to be ironed, haha. The blue is silk dupioni that I was lucky to find pretty cheap and the white is a shinier poly shantung from JoAnns. I liked them because I wanted some texture. I got this fabric a long time ago, but I've been procrastinating on the sari because making the trim is kinda a pain. Must work!
Unfinished necklace and bangles, my completed armband, and the buckles for my belt and boot covers.
Sunday Special ;D WIG HEAD TUTORIAL!Yo!Sunday Special ;D WIG HEAD TUTORIAL!1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Okay. It's Sunday. But I've promised to provide you with some new tutorial today also! *grin*
SO! HOW 'BOUT A WIG HEAD TUTORIAL ;D ESPECIALLY FOR YOU MY BIG HEADED FRIENDS!
Actually... I just hate all the wig heads for sale. My head size is 62cm. So you can believe how well those 55cm wig heads fit me.
I even have some problems with all the wigs! I always have to cut off all the adjustable size wraps! ;__; And even then they are too small for me!
Well, my solution for the problem is this!
With only 10 euros! Yeah, around 15 dollars you can make your OWN wig head.
Which is exactly the same shape as your own head.
So you can actually style your wig only with this! No need to put it on and cut trough a mirror anymore! ^^
WAA!~
We all have a different face. Eyes, nose, lips. They are all in different places!
That's why I really recommend to make your own wig head. To get the best results in wig styling!~
Here ya go!
First! You need a packet of straws, a packet of cling film and one who

Bear with me for adding another thought regarding the cosplay scene, i cant help it if certain issues or stories end up quite thought provoking.
Stories of cosplayers being harassed by some spectators are the common buzz in the community recently, and it had me thinking, what provoked these people to commit such actions that are considered unappropriate by the cosplayers themselves?
There are already tips and suggestions focused towards the audience on how to treat cosplayers. Now in this blog, id like

I used Stretch Hemp Rayon 2 x 1 Rib Knit Natural fabric. It's very stretchy and has a snugly fit to the body, no zipper was used for this outfit. I lined the dress with the same rib knit fabric and I connected the hood to the dress. The hood is lined with Kona Cotton Peach fabric. The peach looking arrow detailing on the hood was ironed on with heat n' bond. I connected the peach bow on the middle of where the hood starts. Th

Cosplay Tutorial: Molding and casting your piecesThis tutorial is based on how to use Smooth-on's Oomoo- and Smooth-cast series materials for cosplay purposes. There is little special too about using fiberglass instead of smooth-cast. Hope you enjoy!Cosplay Tutorial: Molding and casting your pieces3 months ago in Personal More Like This
Ok. Lets get started!
"I need five identically same looking parts like in that center of the picture for my cosplay but making them one by one would take LOTS of time. What to do?"
If you have the right materials then the answer is simple: "Make one sharp prototype of that piece then mold it and cast it."
Here are the materials you need:
- Modelling paste for making the prototype (or what ever material you like. It won't affect to the final product)
- Smooth-On's Oomoo 25 or 30 for making the mold (mold max 20-40 works too but it' need more skill to use. So i recommend Oomoo)
- Smooth-On's Smoothcast series for casting (i recommend smooth-cast 320 because it is easy to paint with spray paint)
(Smooth-On got lot of resellers in few countries. Here in Finland is Silcom.fi who sells their p
Are Cosplayers or Propmakers creative? If art requires creativity than are people who aim to imitate only, creative? Are Cosplayers or Propmakers creative?1 year ago in Personal More Like This
The purpose for cosplaying a character or making a prop is that (besides fun) the aim is for accuracy of the original image. To achieve this aim we observe many images and utilise our skill set to try and create a close enough imitation as possible. Lets say we succeed and our cosplay or prop is incredibly realistic! as artists can we be considered creative? Websters dictionary defines creativity as:
1: marked by the ability or power to create : given to creating
2: having the quality of something created rather than imitated : imaginative
Now I define good art as something "creative". Creativity is one of the strongest driving forces in art, and if an artist is not creative, then it is difficult to appreciate their art. So if cosplayers or prop makers aim to imitate "art" then doesn't that mean artists in these categories aren't creative? I am going to say now that I was the most uncrea

I was going to write a journal about the Libya and japan crisis a while ago, but I am sure most of you are already well informed of that, and if your not then what rock have you been hiding under this week?
My 4th year on DeviantArt passed by and If you haven't noticed my time here on DA will soon come to and end, who knows when that will be. However that is not the issue I wanted to discuss with you all. In these 4 years I have spent on DA I have always had this thought why is art theft such a big fuss? now before you all lash out at me I do understand the hostility behind such an act.
Art theft has been a problem that has existed since the dawn of DA and I have never fully realized what is all the fuss about. I have seen in my time many artists who engage in heated arguments over alleged art thefts. It seems nothing pisses off an artist more then having their work stolen. It is how people deal with art theft which

Today's Special is all about Cosplay.
What is Cosplay?
Cosplay is short for costume play and is considered to be a type of performing art. Participants wear costumes and accessories to represent a character. Often these characters are taken from Manga, Anime or Comics but can also be from movies, books, musicals or even original characters, there's no limit to the imagination. Cosplay can involved dressing up as an anthropomorphized animal or object, women dressing up as men and vice versa, costumes can be very elaborate or minimal, home made or bought.
Cosplay usually involves a type of role playing in wh

Pardon my ranting, but there are things that have been bothering me for a while now, and I guess I just need to get them off my chest.
Popularity MY ASS
Here's a touchy topic - popularity on deviantART. I've always been turned off by the fact that there's a Popular section up on the front page. But maybe that just wasn't the best word choice for it. The dictionary definition seems appropriate enough, but stigma for that term does exist. You know, the way it's used in mass media; reflecting the culture of school kids who create unnecessary hierarchy amongst themselves, which leads to discrimination. There's the "A Group", the popular kids.
Speaking from the perspective of a Visual Communication student, it is actually interesting to see what kinds of art cater to the majority of the populati

Good evening again.
Tonight I'm going to show you how I made my Full Hollow (Vasto Lorde) Ichigo's helmet (from Bleach).
Hopefully you will get some hints or tips.
This is not the only way to make a helmet/mask. I'm just going to show you how I figured everything out.
This was also my first time ever making something like this, so it's now perfect or anything!
Thanks for reading and let's get started! ^^
This is how the whole thing SHOULD look like. A mask and utterly ripped character with cool muscles (prolly have to hit the gym still at least 5 years to even achieve something like that).
Well, so what do we need?
-Plaster of Paris (bandage type, whole box costs around 20 dollars)
-Fingers (your own)
-A mirror
-Some modeling clay mass, I used the first one I found. Brown modeling mass which does not need any heating. (10 dollars a package)
-Black and white spray paint (any typ

Complete Pyramid Head Helmet TutorialIntroductionComplete Pyramid Head Helmet Tutorial6 years ago in Personal More Like This
Okay everyone, here is the long awaited Pyramid Head Helmet Tutorial! Unfortunately, I do not have step by step pictures, nor do I have measurements of the actual frame or the foam-board panels, just the finished product. Also, I did not sketch out blueprints when I made the helmet, but I used pictures as references. I'll describe later how I did that. As a matter of fact, that might be more helpful to you than the actual measurements themselves. But anyways, lets get started. Use the following links as reference throughout the tutorial:

FAQ: FFXIII-2 Starseeker weaponEdit: Many of you asked for a transformation vid. So, I made this video clip. Enjoy!FAQ: FFXIII-2 Starseeker weapon6 months ago in Personal More Like This

In my former journal I asked if you would like for me to explain how my Starseeker weapon was made. Since there were quite some people that would like me to do so, I decided to make this FAQ journal. So, I hope I'l answer some questions you might have about this curious weapon and I hope I can explain it well enough for you all to understand.
Note that I made the weapon a couple of months ago and I don't remember everything very clear of the making of it. But, I'll do my best.
So, first things first: The Starseeker
Serah's weapon is quite the interesting one. This because it's a transformable one just like her sister's, Lightning. Nonetheless, it's a transformable one from bow to blade, which original form is none other than the cute moogle companion, Mog.
