Girl,Hey, you.Girl,6 months ago in Free Verse More Like This
Listen to me,
look at me.
You,
the girl who hates herself,
the girl who feels lost,
the one who doesn't know
what to do.
You don't have to be lyrical,
you don't have to say something profound.
When you don't know what to say,
when you just tell me you care,
it's like the first breath
after drowning.
You save my life
with a few words.
I'm really avoiding it
by now,
so thank you.
Love,
Me

Living and ThingsOde to meLiving and Things1 year ago in Free Verse More Like This
to being afraid of the dark
to loving the fear in my tummy
to having adventures
to pretending dolls could talk
to staying up late to read
to lighting incense
to saying things just to make you laugh
to wearing silly hats
and dancing to the music in my head.
Ode to being a kid
to cutting my hair with safety scissors
to playing with worms
to putting mommy's hair up in plastic clips
to screaming with joy
and playing until dark.
Ode to everything
to rain
to friends
to hugs and smiles.
Ode to laughing
for the sheer joy
of being alive.
Ode to not really knowing what 'ode' means
but being too tired to look it up.

Ashes to AshesThey were just boys,Ashes to Ashes8 months ago in Free Verse More Like This
playing war on the dusty streets.
Their fingers shooting imaginary bullets.
They were running, yellng
and throwing sticks,
leading each other
into a battle of dreams.
Now they are soldiers
playing the line
between death and insanity.
Muzzles flashing,
bodies thrashing,
choking on the smoke and the screams.
They were just boys,
playing at being men,
and they all
fell down.

Do We Seem Real Now?Did you everDo We Seem Real Now?6 months ago in Free Verse More Like This
wonder,
doubt,
whether or not
the other people felt?
A thought from childhood,
"they all just seem like
robots ,
zombies,
empty shells,
do they really
feel, think,
see,
love?"
We couldn't see,
the happy ones that harmed,
the pretty ones that purged,
the mean ones that cried,
the strong ones that broke,
the loving ones that cheated,
the live ones
that died.
The answer,
is yes.

FrostbittenIt is a winter only world,Frostbitten7 months ago in Free Verse More Like This
and I have a winter only soul.
If I cried
My tears, frozen,
would fall
and shatter
on the pavement.
When I bled
my blood was snow
and fell silently,
melting into the grass.
When I walk,
my footsteps freeze
and the frost spreads
over the ground.
When I scream
it will simply be
white mist in the air
hanging like a noose.
But I don't cry, for fear of frostbite,
I bled for fear of living in cold numbness
and I run, screaming,
for fear of living in my endless winter.

Long LiveThe words float around meLong Live1 year ago in Free Verse More Like This
like the smoke
of a hundred fires.
No matter how much I snatch
and jump
and claw
I cannot tear that fine, fine smoke
from the air.
When I finally harness the wind
to channel words into my mind,
chains bind me to the ground
built of my own fear
of everyone else,
looking
reading
laughing.
I must break these chains
so I tether a hundred
white doves
to pull me
from this slumber.
And as i stand
on the peak of this mountain
I free the doves.
They fly,
a large fluttering cloud.
So like the smoke
of one hundred words.

Hush, Don't CryHush, Don't Cry5 months ago in Free Verse More Like This
The sky
is that one shade of grey,
that one shade that you only see
when you've lost something so close,
that even when the sky is blue,
it doesn't seem as bright.
That shade of grey that seems to press down,
wanting to swallow you up.
I've lived under this grey sky
for so long.
The mountain stands over me,
guarding my journey.
As i walk upwards,
the rain hits my umbrella,
the tears caught,
cradled,
before falling,
soaking into the ground,
gone.
The dirt
one which I now walk,
has swallowed many tears,
salty and wet.
It drinks these tears,
the sky's and mine,
as they fall,
indistinguishable,
grieving together.
The rain
constantly whispers.
