With the Kansas-Nebraska Act,the Kansas territory came into exsistance in 1854. It was named after one of the indian tribes that inhabited it, the Kansa.
During much of his early life he was raised by his older brother(/sister if you would like to take up this headcanon with my Kansas), Missouri, along with his other brother,Logan, who would later become the proslavery goverment situated in Kansas. Although there as already many proslavery men entering the territory he would not rebel with the others quite yet (This being that he was WAYYY to young even though states and Countries age at different rate). It wasn't until 1855 when he was abandoned by Missouri that he went on to live with and be mentored by abolistionist, John Brown. Between 1855-1858 the area was commonly referred to as "Bleeding Kansas" Due to all the battles that took place between the Jayhawkers and bushwackers. Such battles and or instances of violence included: The Pottawatomie Massacre, The Sack
