An Introduction To Fine MetalworkingCommunity WeekAn Introduction To Fine Metalworking1 year ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Co-written by melzika!
Fine metalworking is most often considered a medium for jewelry making, although it can be used for other works as well. Many artists have made wall pieces, sculptures, reliquaries, vessels, and other less traditional works with metals. Fine metal is a very versatile and exciting medium that challenges the artist to create beautiful works of art from something that, at first glance, might seem very hard, rigid and unforgiving. Fortunately crafters have been working with metals throughout history, and contemporary artists can still rely on the techniques of those pioneers to see metals in a new light - as soft, malleable and functional.
This article will introduce you to some of these basic metalworking techniques. This is in no way meant as a tutorial, and reading this article won’t qualify you to begin working immediately in metals. There are a lot of safety precautions involved in working wit
Silver Soldering ToolsArtist's ToolboxSilver Soldering Tools7 months ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Silver soldering is one of many different types of soldering, and is a commonly used technique in jewelry-making. There are many different tools that can be used for silver soldering - I will go over the basic tools that I use in my soldering endeavors, but there are certainly a lot more than I will be able to cover in this article!
The first and most obvious "tool" in silver soldering is the solder itself. Silver solder is just that - it is silver alloys that are specifically created to melt at certain temperatures in order to be perfect for varying soldering jobs. The silver solder that I use comes in sheets & is cut into small chips in order to be used. There are different 'levels,' if you will, of solder - most commonly called Hard, Medium, Easy (and I sometimes use Extra Easy).
The difference between the 'levels' is the temperature at which they each melt. Hard solder melts at the hottest temperature, and Extra Easy at th

What Is a Crystal ?
Crystal is the solid form of a substance in which the atoms or molecules are arranged in a definite, repeated patterns. The formation results in one of three ways: a liquid may cool or freeze into a solid; dissolved matter may precipitate out of a solution; or gases may condense into a solid form. The external shape of the crystal -- smooth, symmetrically arranged, flat surfaces -- reflects its atomic structure.
The most common crystal in photography is snow, but there are many other crystals around us and they can all be beautiful.
One of the surprising aspects of crystal is the variation of their size. One single crystal can measure a few nanometres or up to several meters, like in the famous cave of Naica. In the following pictures it is possible to observe that crystals can have the same shape at different scales.

If you would like to be notified when they are open again, please send me an email to email@example.com titled "CUSTOM ORDERS" (content does not matter) and I will add your email to the mailing list. However, if you don't feel like waiting, my shop always has pre-made designs that you can buy, and I upload new ones every now and then, so I suggest looking around there!
For now I will be working on finishing up the custom orders I still haven't done, stocking up for comic-con in November and getting ready for the holidays!
I KNOW THIS SEEMS LIKE A LOT TO READ AND MAY LOOK CONFUSING! But please, trust me, I only tried to get every detail you might want to know about ordering. All there is to ordering from me is:

Introduction to Cross StitchingCross StitchingIntroduction to Cross Stitching2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Cross stitch is one of a number of embroidery stitches, but usually the one most people are familiar with. Whether it was in a school art class or just randomly picking up a cross stitch kit as a kid, a lot of us have tried it at some point. Lets delve into this popular stitch a little bit.
What is a cross stitch?
As the name suggests, is is simply a cross, or an 'X' stitched with thread onto canvas. Typically, it's used to make a picture or a pattern. The stitch will form a complete square, and in this regard it is quite similar to pixel art. Through the placement of individual stitches adjacent to one another, an overall image will eventually appear.
It's an incredibly simple stitch, but can take some time to master. Like many crafts, it can be difficult to notice the

Hi there, dear crafters!
Since it's another amazing Artisan Crafts week, I have an honour to write another article for you. And because I get many questions about how do I finish my leather works, here are some tips and tricks about that
I'm working with natural leather, so have no idea how the faux-leather would come up. Since that technique requires actual burning a surface of the material, I'd advise you to stick to the natural one. Trying to burn plastic [some kind of which most of the faux-leathers are made of] can go wrong. And stinky. And unhealthy.
That said, there's still question what kind of naturall leather? Every suede one. The tickness, colour, origin, age etc. are not very important as long as you have nice, fluffy

Hello, it's me again!
Today I'd like to show you a little who-is-who in gemstone world. It will be probably most useful for jewelry makers but gems are used in so many artisan crafts that I hope even those of you who don't make jewelry will find the article interesting. So here we go!
Since I'd like to stay on topic, today's article will be just about popular stones, not about differences between precious and semiprecious or definitions or tips how not to buy a piece of crap instead of real stone. Maybe I will write about those things in future and if you have any questions or need help with identifying some stones feel free to note me, I'll be happy to help
Now let's get those stones rollin'

CISPA passed HoRYes people, believe it or not the square heads in the US House of Representative passed CISPA by a vote of 288 - 127. I'm still trying to comprehend the mind set of people like that but even me, who am not a citizen of US, have to thank the 127 who were against it. Now, the war will continue because the law still has to pass the Senate. Obama already threatened with a veto against it but it wouldn't the first thing he changes his mind on so I'm not putting my trust in him.CISPA passed HoR2 years ago in Personal More Like This
In Europe we have a sum of organizations like The European Consumer Organization and European Digital Rights who still protect us, the users and try to keep privacy within decency and promote the net neutrality. In fact, there are about 80 of such organizations - all my thanks to them. But it doesn't mean we all have to ignore what is happening in US. Because you have to wonder what will it happen when the big US corporations, protected by the largely comprised CISPA, will come crushing down on all of us with demands

:icondasghul:: Tell us something about KITTIES! :iconwalkingcatplz: NOW!! :iconeagerpee:
:iconcatswire:: It's simple. I couldn't live without them. As one of seven children I couldn't have one.
My first cat came from the US. He had been abandoned by his owners when they moved out of the house a friend of mine moved into. Her own two cats were extremely territorial and wouldn't let him in most of the time. All the neighbors had pets of their own, too. My friend even took him to the shelter once, but picked him up again a few hours later because she couldn't bear the thought. His name was White Dude. He looked like a Turkish Angora cat, all white, long hair, a blue and a yellow eye.
He lived in a wrecked car and in the little house my friend built for him. Then I came for a visit and was in love from the first mome
