What James Vega hatin' says about youThere are many factors that make a particular character resonate with a particular type of person. I find it fascinating when a character, especially one that gets so little actual story time in the Mass Effect games like James Vega, inspires such vitriol in an engaged audience. Everywhere his story is discussed, someone posts a nasty comment that they hate him or call him names. What James Vega hatin' says about you3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
I'm not arguing that the game creators didn't drop the ball on his story. He could have been much more interesting. But the qualities that Vega's fans see in him don't go skin-deep. Even his physical appearance hints at a hidden depth, which almost always affects other areas of life and character development. This is the reason why I started writing the James Vega origins story, The One That Got Away, to show how these shallow elements, hinted at in the game and the boring Homeworlds comic, could have been made into a really interesting story and likeable character.

Mass Effect 3 - Happy Ending Mod...Mass Effect 3 - Happy Ending Mod3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Yet again the Mass Effect Fandom proved that it will not leave the ending in the state it was presented in the game. A certain (fan!) mod was created (and is right now in the testing phase) a Happy Ending Mod for ME3. We can destroy the Reapers, Shepard lives (EDI and Geth too) and most importantly of all we don't have to worry about the Star Child.
Instruction how to install it and the mod itself can be found here:
You can also check how the mod works here on youtube:

Silly coincidencesOk, this is quite silly, but I wanted to share it.Silly coincidences3 years ago in Personal More Like This
One of our local pizzerias has a promo until next Thrusday: if you buy a pizza menu, you get an Angry bird plushie. My boyfriend is quite fond of Angry Birds so he suggested to eat there. And poor guy is starting a new diet on Monday, so... why not?
There we went, we ordered the pizza, we ordered our drinks and when we asked for the plushie, the girl at the desk asked us which one we wanted. "Which ones do you have", I asked. "Let me check", she said before leaving. She came back in a minute and informs us "We have the blue one, the green one and the red one".
I was so tempted to check for hidden cameras... but hey, coincidences happen!
Just FYI, I picked up the red one
The Kasumi DLC Shep Dress (text, img heavy)I know that this is a frequently asked question: How did you make your FemShep dress? Can I see your pattern? The Kasumi DLC Shep Dress (text, img heavy)3 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
I had patterns. Had is the key word. I just got done scouring my patterns and came to the horrible realization that when I moved I left them back home in a box---2000+ miles away.
BUT I can remember how the pattern was made. So if you don't mind text-heavy instructions, prepare for some long winded explanations (I will try to go back and edit to cut down).
Honest notes about the dress:
-This was a dress I made 2 days before a con, it is not super accurate
-I don't 100% like my dress due to the gathering on the front, the bagginess, and the width the shoulders and the collar opening
-While I love the fabric I chose, it is very delicate--the vinyl texture can be torn, chewed, and creased in stress areas.
-I ended up shortening the skirt--about 3 inches or so. But please alter the skirt length to what you feel comfortable with!
-I will be remaking it with Simplicity Pattern

Axios is interesting, powerful, flawed, sympathetic, and could go either way on the paragon/renegade scale. He is something completely different, yet he fits into the ME universe beautifully. Dinky-Mew has clearly worked hard on creating this solid, realistic, plausible, character, with huge potential to be developed in many ways.
For Res specifically, his mind trick is going to be delicious, and have some unexpected consequences when he meets Shep. Axios is both an abused victim and a spoilt brat, not a common combination. He has much learning to do, a

So, I know I'm not usually serious, but I'd like to be just for a bit. This is a long post, so feel free to not read if you don't have the time. I totally get it. If you do have the time, please do. It might give you something to think about, especially if you're a female gamer.
I just wanted to take a moment to say that Mass Effect 3 has done something really amazing in my eyes.
I'm a 22-year-old female gamer. I've been playing video games since my very early childhood. Now, I'm attending a school to get a degree in making them.
I've been incredibly isolated because of who I am, and I've refused to change, willingly accepting my own fate of quiet evenings and cellphones that never ring. Other girls my age never understood me and refused to even try. They had their labels for me, and they swore I spoke another language if I mentioned my most favored of hobbies.
Then, I came to college. In my program, there's almost not a female in sight. The few that exist

ME3 reaction -spoilers!- and stuffHello everyone!ME3 reaction -spoilers!- and stuff3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I've been checking the site since I finished (? Can I say that?) Mass Effect3 last Tuesday and I'm sorry I haven't answered many comments yet, but I was somewhere along stage 1-2 of http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/comics/critical-miss/9476-Mass-Effect-3-The-Process. But yesterday I landed on stage 3 and I've been lurking the BSN trying to avoid stage 4 and go directly to stage 5.
My usual reaction after playing any Bioware game is replaying it again. But the most I've been able to do with ME3 was to check the net, see what I did wrong and replay the end. In my case, I had not enough EMS to get the 'end' I wanted, so I made up my mind to play the MP. Man, I'm never going there again. Don't get me wrong, nothing bad happened, but I just don't like it. I felt the same way when I played PVP in WoW for the seasonal achivements. Useless. So no MP for me and sorry guys, if I landed in any of your fights.
About the game. It's perfect. Almost anything I could have

Today I've been informed by this gentleman :icongycee: about the identity of Jack's face model. If any of you guys would like to thank him for making your day, feel free to do so (I've already have and nearly proposed to him... until I realized he was a dude, of course).
Ahem! the model's name name is Candice Neil and as you can expect, she is absolutely gorgeous.
Stand back though! as the founder of this group, I alone reserve the right of marrying her in Vegas first! :iconichaincameplz:
I'm very happy to finally update this group with some good news. This could probably be the very last blog update we might get since ME3 is done and BioWare is moving on, but this group ain't. All the activity and submitting will remain the same until no more Jack artworks exist in dA.

The Lazy Guide to Giving CreditI know, I know, sometimes you genuinely forget where you found a model. But I believe most people who don't give proper credit are just being lazy. This is not good enough:The Lazy Guide to Giving Credit1 year ago in Personal More Like This
"models not by me"
"can't remember where i got these models"
"credit to the porters"
Porters, riggers, extractors, modders and meshers work hard to give you access to models for you to use. They deserve credit, and other people deserve to be able to find publicly available models with ease.
If you can't be bothered to link individually to all models used in a render (and sometimes it can be a lot), here is my suggestion:
Create a favourites folder called 'render resources' or 'xps stuff' or whatever.
Whenever you download a model, or see a model you might like to use in the future, add it to that favourites folder.
When the time comes to make your render you can refer to it to give credit and to find models you might want to use.

The right way to end a storyI'd like to share a few paragraphs from a great book about writing fiction by Nancy Kress, called "Beginnings, Middles and Ends". Boring title, but a very useful book that every aspiring writer should have on their reference shelf. The right way to end a story3 years ago in Personal More Like This
The following passage is from the chapter "Satisfying Endings: Delivering on the Promise". Please note that Nancy expounds at length that not all endings need to be happy, and indeed, many shouldn't be in order to be effective. I was not at all upset that there was no "happy" ending with the new ME3 DLC. The issues were more fundamental, with the way they developed the story arc and in the end, betrayed several of them, mostly in delivery. But the problems weren't unsalvageable to begin with.
"To succeed, a climax must do four things:
" 1. The climax must satisfy the view of life implied in your story."
Nancy mentioned before this about making a promise with your story, that t

Where do YOU want Mass Effect to go?Hello again, my readers, it is I once more. I couldn't have been more pleased to see that my fellow moderators were willing and able to keep you up to date with the most relevant of Mass Effect news while I've been sadly pulled away by Halo 4.Where do YOU want Mass Effect to go?3 years ago in Personal More Like This
And by the way, fun fact; the bad guy in Halo 4 is voiced by the same guy as Harbinger. Go figure.
Now I'm not certain if this is still active, but Casey Hudson is taking a Twitter poll asking fans if they want ME4 to go forward or backward in the Mass Effect timeline.
Now don't kid yourself, the next Mass Effect game is a long ways away, all we know right now is that the protagonist will be radically different and the story will go somewhere entirely new.
So, what do you guys think? Oh, and if it pleased you, tweet your opinion with #MassEffect or just #ME and send out your thoughts.

The Leviathan and the Death of HopeWarning: contains spoilers concerning the Leviathan DLC, Mass Effect 3 and my notions about what good writing is. Duh.The Leviathan and the Death of Hope3 years ago in Personal More Like This
There are moments when I wish I could just turn off my writer's sense at a whim and "just go with it". Ignore that a story in a game, or a movie, or a book, or a TV show is flawed in my opinion, just to enjoy the views, get an adrenaline rush from all the flashing colors and have fun. And truth be told - it usually works that way... Just not for the universes I tend to care about. If you got me invested in your franchise, I will expect you to deliver the goods. 'Tis how the cookie crumbles.
Which brings me to the Leviathan DLC. I've seen a lot of positive reviews and emotions towards it popping up all over the internet before I was even able to check it out myself. My hopes were high, and, initially, I loved it. It had a sense of exploration Mass Effect 3 was seriously lacking and the TGES Mining Base really reminded me of Noveria... It was spot on.

It's been in the talks since December but communication was cut off during the University's mid-year break and I thought they changed their minds about me, but they contacted me again past Saturday to let me know that the semester has begun and provided me with the schedule for my classes.
Successful people often say "Do what you love and it'll take you places"
I always believed in that and this is a living proof.
I was excited from the moment they told me, and for those who know me, know that the feeling of excitement is nearly non-existent in me. I had two fairs, I booked a booth at MEFCC, I was a finalist in an international contest, I had an interview on TV and a magazine, etc. But I was never excited or ever felt really accomplished.
But I am about this. Thank God.
Maybe it's the act of giving back what God has blessed me with. Maybe it'
