How I became an artistI just posted up a long (and I mean LONG) post on how I became an artist, including about 150 images made over the last 12 years. It's a comprehensive look at how I got to where I am today. anxietyFirst of all.. I didn't expect to gain so much appreciation over this piece.anxiety3 years ago in Personal More Like This
From all over people have expressed how they feel about it. People have gone into large detail on what they like about this.
I want to talk about anxiety in general and how the image came about.
3 years ago I was hit hard by the disorder. It was so bad I got suicidal at points. Not the attention starving kind. Seriously contemplating it. Life was hell.
To someone who hasn't experienced it. I'll try and describe it from my own experience and point of view.
At any random point in the day I can get these attacks. During these attacks I'm overwhelmed with the feeling of imminent death. No rational thinking can erase the thought or feeling. Imagine having a gun held to your head. And you know it's going to go off. You just don't know when. That's what happens when I experience an attack.
I get these daily.
I hide it well from people around me. By just walking away. Or keeping to myself a lot.
How did this affect my

Rise From the Dead
“Where are tonight the sword and its swinger, the holy spells and their singer? Where is the light to scatter the ghosts, the sight of dawn to shatter the frost? Fears can be hidden, and hearts’ fire kindled, but will shadows be caged and demons faced? The curses of liches linger like winds of winter, and wolves howl a hymn for the undead's hunt… who will be safe from the grim reaper’s swing, and who will fall in its grip?”

How to get noticed on deviantARTHi there! How to get noticed on deviantART10 months ago in Art Features More Like This
People asked me several times when I've became 'popular' on this site and in which way. I must admit I smelled a bit of envy in their tones, but the thing that troubled me more was that they didn't think that my work was worth all the pageviews I got over the years.
Well, I wanted to explain this little thing right now... dA costed me a lot of work! It wasn't a 'BOOM! POPULAR!' thing at all for me.
I had to study other people's methods too and to work hard on improving my art, and it wasn't easy. At all!
So tonight I'm sharing with you some methods to get attention by dA community.
Don't take them as unquestionable laws, just take them for what they are... Hints.
They worked for me but they may not work for you.
And now that you have a dA account...
What should you do?

Introducing thoughtART Technology
A few years ago, deviantART teamed up with several university laboratories across the United States, and we are proud to finally announce the fruits of our efforts. Thanks to recent advancements in neurological science, we're unveiling a revolutionary new platform in artistic creation. Our device uses touch-sensitive pads built into your existing keyboard and mouse to monitor your brainwaves and transmit them directly to our site. Excited? Welcome to the new age of thoughtART Technology!
What is thoughtART?
It may sound like something from science fiction, but the technology be

A Gallery of Narrative Dreams
A magic of effective art can be a drawing that appears to be a movie still, clipped from a film narrative, evoking a powerful sense of storytelling— and the viewer wants to know the rest of the story. This phenomenon has recently manifested itself on deviantART— and in a big way— once again.

What's Hot (Beta): Trending Artwork on deviantARTArt on the RiseWhat's Hot (Beta): Trending Artwork on deviantART3 years ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This
DeviantART is a bustling and active community, and with the high volume of artwork submitted on any given day, it can be easy to miss something. In fact, it's common for artwork to go viral across the Web or get a spike of traffic days, months, or even years after it was originally submitted.
Our new “What’s Hot” browse mode surfaces artwork that’s receiving a recent increase in exposure, regardless of when it was submitted.
A New Way To Surface Artwork
We often see artwork gain a lot of attention across the Web (after being shared on blogs, social sites, etc.), but by the time this recognition occurs, our search engines don't consider it when displaying recently "Popular" deviations. The new "What’s Hot" mode is built to celebrate these surges of exposure.
What's Hot vs. Popular
The content of the “What’s Hot” page uses an algorithm that reflects what artwork has recently garnered attention, regardless of when it was subm
Capturing ChangeHello, everyone!Capturing Change1 week ago in Art Features More Like This
In this journal I want to tell you something about my experiences with the "Capturing Change" project.
About one month ago 4thofficial contacted me and asked whether I'd like to enter a photography project. Of course I entered!
The theme was easy to understand. "Capturing Change - How has your city changed over the years?"
We had several Skype talks in which I learned to know the other participants:
darkdex52, Miguel-Santos, and MARX77.
I thought it would be difficult for me to change my eye of photography to the genre called "street", but it worked quite easily. We got a camera from Sony to use, and I got the Sony A7R with a 28-70mm lens. Shooting in full frame is really different from shooting with an APS-C camera. But it is definitely more fun!
The project was the biggest photography project I ever did. It was such an honor to work together with both deviantART and Sony. And I am so thankful to be a

Invitation to Curate

Someone once said that the decision of where to direct one’s eyes is the most important decision in photography.
That could apply to all art. Throughout the course of a day, we are exposed to thousands of pieces of content. How do we discern what is important, what is pleasing and relevant? How do we present what matters to us, and focus attention on those aspects that matter?
Curation is more than packaging

Skyrim Mod ListJust in case anyone is interested at all, this is a list of the current mods I have running. A lot of these are simple immersion mods, added to enhance effects and make the world more realistic.Skyrim Mod List2 years ago in Personal More Like This
DLC I have Installed
Dragonborn - Don’t really care for this one so far. Just hasn’t peaked my interest yet.
Dawnguard - I’m REALLY enjoying this one, although as you’ll see it’s necessitated that I add some mods to help keep it from breaking my game.
Hearthfires - I enjoyed this one too. Very relaxing and fun to hunt the world for resources to build your own homes, marry, and adopt children.
Birds - Adds extra birds flying around the world.
Enhanced Wetness and Puddles - This is a work in progress mod that makes puddles appear in towns when it’s raining. They’ll grow to a specific size then shrink to nothing when the rain stops. Just giving the world a little bit more realism. Unfortunately it’

Drawing, writing, improvementIt seems that my presentiment for this year, 2012 was true.Drawing, writing, improvement3 years ago in Personal More Like This
First days of January I though 2012 would be a special year for me. Nothing to do with catastrophic bullshits. I remember I though: 'I fell strongly this year will bring something special and beautiful for me, I don't think it will be something big, but I fell it will be beautiful!'
Well, I'm growing more confident toward my drawings, more confident toward my stories and with new will to realize my old dreams.
Confidence doesn't means i am satisfied with my drawings. I want to draw better, like a real comic artist. And better and better. But I left the ball and chain behind. The ball and chain that is called 'fear' and low self-esteem that doesn't help an artist to improve. I was really stupid to think that having low self esteem was the best way to improve and to not fall into arrogance. I still hate arrogance, but there is a difference between having self-confidence and being arrogant.
I discovered I still have the creativit

How do you know when you're a 'good' artist? Is it pageviews? favorites? being employed in the visual arts industry somewhere? sales? being able to paint something that looks like a photo? being able to paint or draw things exactly the way you visualised them? How do you know when you're a 'good' artist?3 years ago in Personal More Like This
That last is probably the closest to my idea of the artist i want to be. And i'm pretty much getting there, because luckily i'm a fantasy artist & i don't have to worry about the things, places or people i paint looking EXACTLY like they do in real life. I figure that's what cameras were invented for! And i never understood why somebody would spend 20-50 or more hours painting something that looks like a photo!
But wouldn't it be nice to know that I CAN do it if i wanted to? Especially likenesses: they're really hard! I see wonderful artists such as JW-Jeong who does amazing photorealistic work (as well as fantastical thought-provoking stuff, thankfully!) and i go & do something silly. I compare myself to them! And i can see by the pageviews & faves that it's not just
