A Captain's Legacy
Shining stared up at the oak door that towered above him. It was a normal door, no different than a typical door one would find inside a house. But given the contents stored away behind it, it had an unusually grand feel to it, and Shining couldn't help but feel dwarfed in its shadow.
The old grandfather clock down the hall let out twelve loud booms.
It was noon. The high sun's rays shone through a nearby window and across Shining's stationary, white frame. It warmed his fur while he kept his blue eyes locked on the door.
His parents always said how the attic held an eclectic assortment of things, from old music records to hardcover books that hadn't been opened since his grandparents lived in the house a decade before.
Shining imagined his deceased grandfather, the stallion with the amputated hoof and a pair of wild, yet kind, eyes. Shining imagined his still-alive grandmother, the sweet mare that would always have a batch of cookies at her house for him and

"Everypony, remain calm so as to allow our fair city to be efficiently defended!"
Even given its volume, Shining Armor's request fell on deaf ears. Unicorn citizenry either shivered in corners, or ran in all directions in an attempt to make themselves scarce from the chaos that was downtown Canterlot.
Meanwhile armored pegasi flew about, combating household objects which had become animate--brooms, mops, pantries, and even ovens which had learned to put their super-heating abilities to malicious use.
A squadron of fifty unicorns, led by Shining Armor and Princess Cadance, rushed to the scene of greatest commotion. While weary from preventing casualties for the past hour, they were still fueled by adrenaline granted through the will to prevent even more.
And at that scene, they found the source of the chaos--quite literally, in fact.
"Discord! It is you! I didn't believe it at first," said Shining Armor. He looked around. "Even when Celestia told me the legends of your

"Relax, Pinkie. I'm flappin' these wings, ok?"
The pink pony bounced jovially up ahead, excited for the... festivities she spoke of. Especially since it was for ol' Dashie. She stopped at the door of Mr. and Mrs. Cake's shop, where she lived on the upper floor, and shushed the rainbow maned pony as if she'd been loud.
"Pinkie, what's the big-- Whoa!" Rainbow Dash was cut mid-sentence as Pinkie got behind her, pushing her up the stairs by the flank, giggling uncontrollably. Dash knew Pinkie's eyes were always sparkling oceans, but today, they shone brighter than before, incomparable to any time before.
The door to Pinkie's home flew open as streamers and confetti poured from above the door right onto Rainbow Dash. "Happy Birthday, Dashie!" Pinkie exclaimed, cake, presents, and punch about the room. Rainbow wanted to keep her sly smile, but the scene was tear-jerking, and a sigh of delight escaped her blunt muzzle.

Peace is a wonderful thing, the ideal we strive to keep.
For that dream we stand strong, and face the eternal sleep.
- Captain Everbold, from the statue of the Dreamless War.
It had been a warm, sunny day in the city of Canterlot. Birds flitted happily amongst the high minarets, singing their last songs as the sun slowly drifted towards the horizon. Today, however, was not a day of rejoicing for Princess Celestia.
Standing in the Royal Gardens amidst countless statues, of ponies past, the tall white mare, her flank marked with a blazing sun, lowered her head slowly, the long, glowing tip of her horn drawing a path for the star of day to follow to it's rest. A slow sigh escaped her lips as she completed the task, not from strain, but the burden which lay upon her heart. It had been many years since she had been forced to make a choice this hard.
"What is wrong, my sister?" A soft voice seemed to come from nowhere. Though she never showed it, Celestia had wanted to

"GET OUT OF MY BUCKING WAY!"
On any other day, Twilight Sparkle would never have dared to shout so rudely at anypony, and she definitely would never, ever have used such coarse language. Today, however, wasn't any other day.
She couldn't remember how she had gotten to Canterlot, nor could she, for the life of her, feel any patience for the ponies in the crowded street. She needed to be at Canterlot General Hospital now, even if it meant barreling through every pony in Equestria. Luckily, most of the city's population knew her, either from her time as their Princess' personal student and protégé, or from the accolades she had received since then. Saving Equestria no less than three times doesn't exactly go unnoticed. Either way, the sight of the desperate, frantic, and somewhat well-

Rainbows Can Be Lonely Too
By: DolphinBuster starring: Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy
I held in a growl watching Fluttershy panic in fear as she tried another loop. That pegasus is such a scaredy pony. It had been just about the same thing for the past hour or so. I'd demonstrate the trick Fluttershy would try, she'd panic, fall down, and whimper how sorry she was for failing. She's a pony that you can't seem to stay mad at, but she could be really aggravating at times, though.
Seriously though, I shouldn't be complaining. I was the one that had taken a day off weather duty to spend some time with Fluttershy and teach her a trick or two. But all she seemed to learn so far was a half loop, and how to fall without breaking anything.
Fluttershy sat on the ground, shaking her mane to cover her face. She was obviously embarrassed.
"Its okay, Fluttershy. You put in a great effort. It just takes practice." I had to hold back a choke at grea

At Sweet Apple Acres, two youngsters were playing in the apple orchards late in the afternoon. One of them, the yellow, earth pony filly, was running around and through the trees. Zigging and zagging, her red mane and tail, along with her large pink bow, flowed as she dashed away from her friend. Following close behind was a purple and green dragon. Though his body was small, he was closing the gap between them.
"You can't run forever, Applebloom!" the dragon called out with a playful smirk.
With a laugh, the pony replied, "Ah'm tellin' ya, Spike, ya can't keep up with the likes of me! Ah'm the best crusader when it comes ta playin' tag!"
"That doesn't mean you won't get tired!" Spike sounded determined to win.
Playfully, Applebloom stuck her tongue out at the dragon before bolting off deeper into the orchard. Spike followed, no willing to let her escape his sight.
Suddenly, Applebloom noticed that the sky was turning into diffe

Coming of the Guard
By the time the girls had gathered together at Sugarcube Corner later that day, a large crowd of excited ponies had grouped up around the central avenue. There was a huge ruckus as many of them tried to catch a peek at the approaching marchers coming up the path. Speartips and armor gleamed in the late day sunlight as the column grew nearer, each stallion moving in step, as if they were one great body.
Rarity and Rainbow Dash approached, when they were suddenly accosted by a bouncy pink ball of energy. The mare called out to them in a bubbly voice, her magenta mane a huge bundle of springy curls that bounced along with her every energetic hop.
"Hey, hey! Over here Rarity!"
"What's up Pinkie?" Rainbow Dash hollered back, gliding over to where she was bouncing next to Applejack.
"Did you see them!? There's a whole bunch of 'em heading this way! They look all stiff too, like they do every time we see them, except now there's more of them! Well, not as

"Once upon a time, in the magical land of Equestria, there were two Regal Sisters who ruled together, and created harmony for all the land.
To do this, the eldest used her unicorn powers to raise the sun at dawn; the younger brought out the moon to begin the night.
Thus, the two sisters maintained balance for their kingdom and their subjects, all the different types of ponies.
But as time went on, cracks appeared between the two sisters.
The younger sister became resentful. The ponies relished and played in the day her elder sister brought forth, but shunned and slept through her beautiful night. Her jealousy grew as she dwell longer and longer in her elder sister's shadow.
The elder sister meanwhile became consumed by a different darkness: out of everything else, she only desired to protect her subjects from any and all forms of harm. As her desire became an obsession, she come to see her younger sister's night as one of the things that caused it to them the most.

Twilight Sparkle hadn't run this fast since she was a filly.
She rounded the spiral stairs of Canterlot Castle, gasping and desperate, until she reached her library workshop. Her chest heaved and hurt from the nonstop running, but she pushed it aside to concentrate on the task at hand.
They'd called her mad. They'd said she was depraved. They'd said she was messing with powers beyond her reach.
Unfortunately, for once, it seemed that "they" were right.
Wasting no time, she willed several books off of the massive shelves. They opened and spun around her. Twilight's eyes were lightning, moving across several turning pages in mere seconds. Her mind moved almost as frantically.
It should have worked, it should should have worked, it should have worked! None of this should have happened! I checked everything! I dotted my Is, crossed all the Ts, carried all the ones, seriously what happened here-
"There she is!" she heard a voice cry out from the hallway.

Twilight Sparkle had never run so fast in her life--not that she had lived very long.
She ran across green hills and plains, leaving Canterlot Castle and its festivities behind her. She expected to become short of breath any second, but it never happened.
Soon she could see a house in the distance. As it drew closer, she could see a white unicorn looking out the second story window.
He didn't notice her. He was probably studying the castle guards from a distance again. He'd always told her that he wanted to be one someday.
She went into the house, up the stairs, and bolted through the door to his room.
Shining Armor quickly noticed her voice and looked behind himself. When he realized what the both of them were in for, he held out his hooves. "Twilight! Slow down!"
"Wha?... oh, no!"
She planted her own hooves to stop, but it was too late. She skidded and crashed into him with considerable force, the impact causi

She thought it looked nice.
In the mirror before her was a lavender unicorn pony in a modified look of her Grand Galloping Gala dress, with a few extra laces along the trim of the waist and collor, and violet lining on the stars. White hooves placed a small felt hat a top her purple and pink striped head with a small peacock feather adorning it. She turned around slowly to look unto herself, when a blue glow suddenly took the hat off and replaced it with laced pale lavender Berge're(*1) slim hat with a smaller feather and dark indigo sash around the crown.
"Hmmm " the white unicorn designer surveyed her work. She played with her indigo mane until she used her magic to take off the hat and place a feathered headdress on instead. "Yes that would do nicely. What do you think darling?"
The model did a little pose to see how it looked all together. "Well, I like the headdress, but the lace doesn't look like much with it. But why do you need my opinion, this is for a client isn't it Rar

"I don't see the point of this." Chrysalis hissed irritably, glaring at the Dream Taker to hide her fear. "Why do you need my possession spell?"
Shaking his head at her doubt, the old stallion frowned. "Have you learned nothing?" He paced away from her, crossing the floor of the rune marked Chamber of Magus.
"But the spell doesn't work unless somepony is willing to listen to you." She retorted, yet felt that she was missing something.
"Exactly! Why do you think it was so important to lure Thundercloud into the fold?" The Dream Taker asked.
Chrysalis stopped to think for a moment. The possession spell had been one of her favorites during the wedding, when she not only used it on her husband to be, but also upon the foolish bridesmaids that had been attending her. Without that loyalty, they would never have listened to her, let alone fallen under the spell. If they brought Thundercloud in, then
The answer hit Queen Chrysal

Farewells and New Beginnings
The sunlight of a new dawn cut through the chamber window of Luna's tower, shining warmly on the alicorn as she plodded in, weary from the great burden she bore. Her thoughts were ever on Celestia, who's duty she carried now, alone. Stumbling over to her bed, she began to cry as she fell wearily upon the cushions. It was too much for her to endure any longer, having lost everything she loved, being forced to let go of her dearest friend before her banishment, and now her sister
"Why did this happen, Tia? Why?" She whimpered, clenching her teeth on the bedding as fresh tears dampened the blankets.
A knock sounded at her door. "Princess Luna? Are you ready for the ceremonies?" One of Luna's maidservants, an earth pony named Daisy Chain, asked her apprehensively.
"No, and we shall not be!" Luna summoned up her Royal Canterlot voice to drive the servant off, shaking the door on it's hinges. "We wish to remain alone, now leave us!"

"So, you're SURE this isn't, y'know, gory or anything?" Twilight asked.
"Nope, it's still supposed to scare the pants off ya though!" Pinkie answered, bouncing up and down with excitement. "Well, you're not wearing pants, though... Now that I think about it, ponies really don't wear pants that often. Why did ponies start sayi-"
"That's enough, sugarcube" Applejack said. "It don' make much sense, but let's talk about the game and not why ponies don' wear clothin'."
At midnight in the library, the study was pitch-black except for the small amount of light coming from the computer screen that illuminated the faces of six ponies. The room was covered in a blanket of darkness as Twilight opened the ominously titled "Slender". Suddenly, the title materialized upon the dark background in a crude, but frighteningly so, font. As swiftly as it had come, the title disappeared, and Twilight found herself in a forest, with a mission to "Collect all 8 pages".
Well, let's do this." Twilight said reso
