What is it that frightens you? After all this time, I hardly need to tell you that there is no need to be afraid of me. However, I would like to explore the concept of fear. The ideas and the effects it has, if you'll permit me. Don't misunderstand me, fear has its benefits and it can be necessary. A man without fear is a fool. But there are some things that you humans fear that you just don't need to, like me.
So why do you humans fear me? I think the correct way to answer that is to explain why children fear the dark, or certain humans are afraid of any form of god or deity. Some humans are afraid of the future why? Because the one thing humans fear most is that which they do not know or understand. You fear the dark because you don't know what lies within. You fear me because you do not know what fate awaits you after me. You fear the future because you do not know what will happen to you. You fear God because you do not know him and you cannot study him. It i

"You don't have to treat me like this." (F/N) said after Celty had taken off leaving the strongest man in Ikebukuro and the high school girl alone once again. The two were heading home and the raven haired girl was slightly annoyed.
Shizuo took a drag on his cigarette before he replied, "I already told you why. Don't think I'll change my mind kid."
"And I already told you I'm not a kid. I can take care of myself. Why are you so persistent-"
"Your sister left you to find a safe place to stay until she came back. I'm sure she wouldn't want you to be getting kidnapped or mugged every time you go outside, so I'm going to make sure you're safe."
"Oh I get it now."
'Finally she'll shut up now ' Shizuo thought.
"You're trying to put the moves on my sister."
That certainly wasn't what Shizuo had wanted to hear.
"What are you talking-"
Unfortunately there was no stopping her, this was only the beginning. The 5'3 girl stood in front of the 6'1 man looking rather menacing as she poked his ch

Today, I have been given another request to discuss a group of people that I find endlessly hilarious. This group of people could apparently predict the end of the world and disappeared before anyone could call them on it. The Mayan civilization and history is just too funny. How can people today take them seriously about predictions on the end of the world, when they're government was destroyed internally?
One step at a time, I guess. Let's focus on the end of the 2012 stuff first, because I love that whole theory.
I will give the Mayan's credit, they were very advanced and intelligent people. They made major strides and movements in the ways of science engineering, and math. They were a very well put together and scientifically brilliant. That said, what made you think that they were qualified to predict the END of the WORLD?! At least with other end of the world predictions there was some reasoning. People believed that the year 2000 or the year 1500 or even 1945

You never forget do you?
You never ever forget the first time you do something. The first time you get married. The first time you go to school. The first time you ride a bike. God, I wish that I could think back on such pleasant memories but no. No, I can never forget the first time I removed a soul. I will never forget my first day on the job. It all started with Abel
Do you want to know what I find most disturbing about my first day on the job? The most disturbing thing is that this first one wasn't a natural one. Abel didn't meet me through old age or sickness no Abel met me because of homicide. How twistedly and disgustingly ironic that my first would also be my first homicide. I remember it I remember it so well. It's as if I were still standing in that field now.
It was cloudy that day, it could have rained. In fact, I have a feeling that the weather itself knew what was about to happen and it was ready to mourn. Why not? My work brings pain. I was

As I write this 7th entry, I am reminded of periods in history that shaped human reception and opinion of me. I am writing these entries so that you might learn more about who I really am and how I see things so it is only reasonable that I present to you a few of the ways in which you humans have imagined and envisioned me
There are plenty of years and dates in history that leave a bitter taste in my mouth and a massive headache to deal with. God, just thinking about some of those days drives me mad. One that I remember extremely well is 1346 That had to be one of the worst years I've ever had the displeasure of working in, not only because it was a horrible year of history, but because it started a trend and stereotypical image of me that I can't stand. It was the year that Europe experienced the worst of the Black Plague and it was also the year that humans decided that I would look good in all black and with a scythe.
I've said before that I am not a fan

Shizuo doesn't come into school the next day and you think you know why. Even though it's only one day, you miss his presence and the occasional wink he gives you. You feel sort of stupid for missing him.
However, after your little ordeal yesterday Shinra thought it was only necessary for you to know about Shizuo's anger problems and all the consequences. So during that lunchtime you both sit in a remote corner of the Canteen and he tells you everything he knows about Shizuo (and how much he wants to examine him, but you give that a miss). The only thing he couldn't explain was Shizuo's fierce hatred for Izaya. By this time you kinda hate him too.
This news came somewhat as a shock to you, because in the amount of time you've known him (which is almost a year now because it's early Summer),you have never seen Shizuo angry or even slightly annoyed. Of course, that didn't change the fact that you like him; actually, it made you more interested. But Shinra didn't need to know that. And ne

I am tired.
That should come as no surprise to you, that I would feel this way, but I do. I travel I work and I change history. I have watched you humans rewrite history and create revelations that have made this world both a better place and a nightmare. At the same time, I have changed this world too. It doesn't have to be a mass murder. It doesn't even have to be a bombing or war. It could be as simple as just one assassination. All it takes is the removal of a single soul, and I set the gears in motion for change.
It doesn't necessarily have to be a death that leads to sadness or loss; sometimes it is a change for the better, like in the case of Adolf Hitler or Saddam Hussein. When these two men died, the world changed. Society was impacted and peace was restored to that which they had ruined. The wreckage and damage they had done would remain for some time to come, but society rebuilds, and adapts. If you humans have proved nothing else to me with

THE SLENDER BOOK: Story 1
(Originally an oral tale, exact time and location uncertain; printed versions have been traced to Austria, Belgium, Switzerland, and Poland under the names Rolf Albert Freiherr von zur-Saxe and Randulf Albrecht zur Sachsen, approximately 1350-1400 A.D.)
Translated by Sir Samuel Forrester from the German, 1897
1. "Der Großmann" or "The Tall Man"
My dear children, your parents and myself plead with you to be good. For the nights are dark and the forests are thick, and the Tall Man stalks the edges of the woods, looking for wayward children to devour. He is very tall, much taller than your parents, and his face is like the moon, and almost as far when you look up to see the trees and find his face. The Tall Man communes with trees and sometimes takes the form of a tree, and his limbs are long and spindly. He walks like a spider when no one can see him, and strides like a man when he wishes to deceive the simple. His dress is ele

Here's something that probably will surprise you: I can't stand cigarettes. It's like people are creating legal ways to kill themselves. In fact, I'm not a big fan of alcoholics or drug users either. In fact, I simply can't stand them. They make my job hell and they hurt people more than I ever could. Do you know how many people I have visited in hospitals, gasping to breathe through scorched and blackened lungs that have spent years ingesting that blasted smoke? Do you know how many car accidents I have witnessed that involved someone drinking themselves into a bloody stupor? No no you don't.
In fact, I don't either. I don't want to know. It's a sad time for me only a few weeks ago, I went to a car accident in the middle of the night. I came for a young girl who was just leaving her prom night. She was drunk out of her mind and she wrecked. She was killed by the collision. I removed her soul before the car even stopped spinning. Well, now that you know about more about me, maybe you should know a bit more about my work and how it goes. It all works something like this:
As I explained before: There is no scythe and cutting out your soul however, I'll admit, that it's not completely false. I have a schedule, you see. When someone's time comes, I am nearby. I don't choose their time the Big Man does. I'm just his errand boy. Once it's time is up, I know. I will kneel or sit next to your body (I rarely find a body standing up), and I reach into your body, and pull out your soul. I then wrap the soul in my arms and I carry it off to Heaven unless of course there are more to pick up in that time zone and area. In which case, I often get my arms full. What happens after that? Not my department not my problem. I have enough on my plate, thank you very much.
I do feel you know. I have that cap

History isn't very kind to me; often giving a negative view of me. I want you to know that I am not bad I promise you that I am not. Please do not be afraid of me there is nothing to be afraid of. Despite what you may think or hear about me, I'm not evil but I can also see how people would think that I am. My job isn't a happy one.
Forgive me. I must confess that I'm not good at this kind of thing. I've never had the opportunity to express my opinions and viewpoints on things. Hell, I've never really had the time to sit down and write in a diary before, so I'm not really very experienced at this kind of thing. I'll do my best to be clear and understandable. It has recently come to my attention that I have forgotten what my intention was in writing these entries. I had lost sight of what I had originally intended to do, and for that I am sorry. It took the words of a wise young human to remind me of what I was supposed to do to that human, you have my thanks.
While it is true that I wrote these entries to help you understand that I am not evil and to help you see the world through my eyes, there was another reason I am writing in this diary. I want you to get to know me I want you to learn more about me and my existence. After all, the whole grim reaper concept proves to me that you know next to nothing about me so I believe it would be best for me to tell you a little bit more about myself.
I have mentioned it maybe once or twice before, but I answer to a higher power. Yes, I answer to God. Now, in my first entry, I explained that there IS a God and that He is in control of everything, even me! But I w

School the next day is so boring! The only thing remotely interesting that you find out is that there's going to be a festival at the end of the month celebrating the Summer...or something. You decide to visit Shizuo and tell him about it, as Hanako also suggested that she and her boyfriend go on a double date with you and Shizuo at said festival. Hopefully he'll be out of hospital by then.
Shizuo is sleeping when you come in. Trying not to disturb him, you walk across the room, avoiding all the machinery, and sit on the stool next to him. His hand is hanging over the edge of the bed, so you pick it up and gently massage it with your fingertips. This must have woken him, because his eyes flutter open, and that's when you realise how hot and sweaty he looks. His eyelids are purple and a thin sheen of sweat clings to his forehead and cheeks. You stay calm, as this is probably one of the side affects of the painkillers he has forced into him. You carefully place the back of your free h

Chapter 5 - Daredevil vs. Penguin/Red Hood vs. Two-Face
- The Next Morning -
The sun's rays warmed the road as the yellow taxicab drove up to the entrance of Wayne Manor. Stopping at the gate, the passenger doors opened, allowing Matt, Eddie and Charlotte to step outside. Heading for the trunk, Eddie reached for his friends' bags and handed them out to both of them, slamming the trunk shut after. As Eddie and Charlotte walked up to the gate, Matt reached into the back of his trousers and retrieved his wallet. Feeling how each note was folded, so he could tell the difference between the notes, he pulled out the amount required and handed it to the cab driver.
"Keep the change" Matt insisted, getting a grateful nod from the cab driver as he walked away. Reaching the gate, Eddie noticed a speaker attached to the wall beside it. Pressing the button beneath the speaker, he heard a static sound on the other.
"Hello?" Eddie asked, nervously awaiting a response.

Halloween is coming up.
I always loved Halloween, and not just because I was born around that time of year.
I always loved it because it's the one time of year where most people are willing to face their fears, to stop looking away from the darkness in which lies their own distorted reflection, locked away deep within their subconscious
During that one time of year, people get to see what I see.
I was about 6 years old when I first experienced the agony of true horror.
I only have very vague memories of my childhood, but everything about that night remained in my mind, clear as crystal.
Sure I had been scared before. We all have, it's part of being a child. Fear is a plant that grows deep within the holes of our knowledge, filling the voids until one day the light comes shinning. Until then, we are bound to be scared of the things we don't understand, children and adults alike. But children live in a world filled with the unknown, where the roots of fear have plenty of room to spread.

Shizuo is waiting for you again back in the classroom. You're kind of glad he doesn't ask what Hanako wanted.
'Can we get the train home together today?' you ask Shizuo when the day ends.
'Sure, we take the same train.' he replies. He sounds very tired and there are even small bags under his eyes that you didn't notice before. Maybe his parents gave him a lecture on how to treat teenage girls or something. It's then that you realise how tired you are, and you can't help yawning. Shizuo yawns shortly after you.
The train takes longer than you expected and you find yourself nodding off while standing on the platform. When the train does arrive, the sky is already a pale pink, it must be about 5. Geez, that train is 1 1/2 hours late! Shizuo pulls you onto the train since your legs refuse to walk on command and you both sink onto seats by the door. Once again you nod off.
A sharp jerk is enough to wake you and you open your eyes.
The train is empty.......it's quiet....apart from Shizuo sno

One group of people that I have had many memories of is the Jews. I must say that I've seen those people quite frequently in the time that I have been at this job. Lord knows that I could tell you so many stories about my relationship with the Jewish people, but if you want to know about those, you don't have to come to me. All of those stories are already written down in the Bible. I've read the Bible many times (especially the ones written in the Gideon Version, which I find quite often in hospital rooms) and I will tell you with absolute honesty that I have never read a more spiritually and historically correct book. I know this, because I've been involved in most of those stories.
With that said, there are some details that I would like to add that maybe you didn't know about one specifically. Recently, I've been to Egypt quite a lot because of violent riots, and while there, I can't help but to recall the days in which God went to war with the Egyptian gods in his

It is a common misconception that I am a war monger; that death and war are bound together. Although I'll admit that war and I are very connected, I do not love war. However, that doesn't mean I love war. I am no war monger however, there are plenty of humans that are and when those humans show their faces and bare their arms then I have to get involved. One war monger and killer whose actions forever are burned into my memory is, of course, Adolf Hitler.
Hitler was a mad man he was a brilliant speaker and a powerful leader but he was mad. I know what kind of man he was I know his insanity I know because I witnessed his madness first hand. If you learn nothing else from these entries, learn this: The victors write the history books. In every war, the winners tell their own side of the story. The other side is tossed aside or erased. But I've seen all sides of war. I've seen the ideals and the real motives of the combatants and the politicians that pull the strings. It doesn't matter to me who is right or wrong, just who I meet.
Allow me to give you an example. If you live in the United States of America and you go to a class to learn about WWII, you will learn that the Japanese struck the first blow to America at Pearl Harbor, bringing America into the war. However, if you move to Japan and take a class on that war, you will hear a different version. The Japanese will tell you that America declared war first by cutting Japan off from its supplies and resources. It is all a matter of perspective and, of course, it all comes down to the matter of where one lives. In the end however, America won the war
