Heya! Zyra the 101st Champion is finally out!
She's the first champion that I've designed at Riot.
So far, the level of excitement and anticipations of the huge league community has been crazy! so thanks to all!

Vi is out! The final champ of this year.
I was eager to show this champion to everyone and it's happening now! This is the splash art that I collaborated with Josh Smith. I did the character int he foreground while he worked on the background. Another splash artist named Bo Lu did the initial design of the background Piltover interior.
I do Champion and Skin concept designs most of the time at Riot but this was a fun collaboration!

Finally, Hecarim is out!
now I can upload the art that created this champion.
This is the first champion I worked for Riot as an outsource freelance artist.
I was actually surprised that they decided to make this champion.
With the extra effort of the production team, I think he came out pretty awesome!

Since I became a full time concept artist for the champions team, I've been doing tons of fun art concepting for the upcoming champions. I'll definitely share more concept art with you guys when the time comes.

Here's the process of making Zyra. These are early ideation sketches before she was finalized to be who she is now.
I did many explorations and started doing some subtle variations here. Me and Morello(Ryan Scott) worked hard on picking the right direction for the character. We really thought about playing with the thick vine hair that could potentially show really cool attack moves and animations. We also played with the short vine hair that could glow when she casted magic. Ultimately what we wanted was a deadly and fierce Zyra that represented nature's wrath.

This was recently done for the character design class with Kevin Chen and Hong Ly at Art Center.
Definitely one of my favorite classes that I took.

UPDATE:
To be clear, This is my iteration, an iteration as a video game perhaps, my take on the story Nausicaa. It's not meant to compete with Studio Ghibli's version. This not a fanart, therefore the characters may seem entirely different from the originals.
