It is widely known that many famous artists, composer, and authors have had the frustration of having a work they felt was sub-par gain huge popularity while pieces they worked harder on and adore sat un-noticed. This is the same for everyday deviants. I recently ran a poll asking for deviants to share with me their thoughts on this and share their own art. Here are some of the answers--the first piece being the most faved and the second being the one they wished had more love. More will be featured in future articles. To see the original poll (which is still open), click here<

Watch our Scraps for Keys!Hello everyone,Watch our Scraps for Keys!3 years ago in Personal More Like This
We've gotten some feedback over the last few days on posting too many keys, a few deviants have told us that some of our work is becoming repetitive, and another suggested we try doing something other than keys for a while.
It's very true, we upload a lot of keys and many are similar. We know they get a lot of attention because we have a lot of watchers that fav them every time we post, this causes them to be on the front page a lot. So, instead of constantly taking up space from other people on the front page, we decided to start uploading keys to scraps for a while, and after the 24 hour period is up we'll change the category to our main gallery.
This will give people a break from seeing our keys in the popular section while still allowing our watchers to get updates on keys.
We are going to be trying some new things here, also, not key related! Once we can do some more creative things we'll upload those to our main gallery These anti-key suggestions gave us incent

*** This is in not way written as to be lectue, its more some thoughts I have and a hope to inspire some different thinking about artworks.***
Who are you as an artist ?
- I would certainly not say its an easy question, asking myself that I find it quite tricky to answer, I think a more valid form would be "What defines you as an artist ?" and if follow up with a few more question it instantly inspires thought, at least I think.
* Do you dare to be different ?
* Do you take advantage of the tools you have ?
* Do you give up on an idea if it does not work out the first time you try ?
And you can go on and on posing more question and sub-questions, but cutting through all that I believe Is where it all lies, it is not hard to take the easy route and base work of others people successes, I dont think any artist has not gone down that route.
Personally I think it is an important an invaluable tool, but also equa

Nuances of an Annual Ritual
Which brings us to each year’s communal celebration of the passing of our lifetimes:
New Year’s Eve
So what did you “actually get done” in the past year? How closer are you to a grand goal in life? An assessment is made and then the inevitable Step 2 of the yearly process is engaged, which is often a word for word repeat of last year’s Step 2:
The New Year’s Resolution
There seem to be two main strategies that emerge at this point of facing the New Year, a “brand new morning.” The lone wolf quietly acknowledges goals not yet reached, and is even more secretive in the “new plan.” “I’ll show them,” becomes the new privat

So, I'm on TumblrI was looking for some place where I could set up a user-friendly gallery to put all my paleoart in and publicize it more easily, since DeviantArt is a great place for interacting with the community but not so much for exposing your work to a wider audience. Of course I have my blog, but it looks more like a kind of magazine than a photo gallery. So I decided to make a tumblr: http://paleoart.tumblr.com/So, I'm on Tumblr3 years ago in Personal More Like This
In it I've uploaded most of my paleoart and tagged the images such that you can find different subjects when searching by environment, time period, classification and continent. It makes it easy to quickly find out if I've already featured your favorite dinosaur, as well as look through my gallery within a bit of scientific context.
The main purpose of the tumblr is only to keep an updated gallery out of DA, since I don't like posting all of my pictures on facebook and I'm constantly too lazy to write something for my blog. But tumblr is also good because people can interact with me, e

"Scars can come in handy. I have one myself above my left knee that is a perfect map of the London Underground."—Prof. Albus Dumbledore
Early life becomes an exploration of invisible parameters, circles beyond circles, as one pushes out to test the boundaries of safety. There is one’s bedroom, one’s home, neighborhood, school and town, state and nation. Early on, maps become important documents – declarations of being and rights and privileges. In the art world, throughout history, maps have been a constant measure of human progress, from the Phoenecians recording their trade routes over 2000 years ago, or pre-Columbian times in which map
Weekly Recap 02For the duration of my 40 Day Photo Challenge, I've decided I'll do a weekly recap of the photos I've taken, what happened this week, and other various things.Weekly Recap 021 year ago in Personal More Like This
Photos from this week
My favorites from this week is the dove photo and the color landscape. I really like the colors of both photos and both turned out
unexpectedly awesome (to me anyway).
What's your favorite picture that I've taken this week?
This coming week, I have all kinds of photos planned. The snow has melted, the dirt roads will be dry, and hopefully it won't rain a lot. So I'll be able to get out in the middle of nowhere and get some cool shots.

Hedgehogs, everywhere!Hi all,Hedgehogs, everywhere!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Sorry for the recent inactivity ( I feel like this is all I say now! ) However I do have a valid excuse!
Back in June I collected 3 adult hedgehogs from a rescue centre and released them into my garden, as we don't have any in the area. Anyway, I feed them every night and about a week ago I noticed a hog run past that was half the size of the adults! Knowing they will be hibernating any day now I knew I had to catch the little one and weigh it to see if it was fat enough to hibernate. I ended up catching 4 baby hedgehogs, hoglets. Having weighed them all I found out I made the right decision catching them as they are too small to survive the hibernation.
This left me with the decision to either take them to a rescue centre or to fatten them up myself. With a lot of fantastic advise from people on the Hedgehog Street forums I decided to keep the hoglets. I have the 4 of them living in the house now while I fatten them up! The first night in each of them put on around 40g each! T

We went up to Plockton yesterday on the mainland and then down to Eilean Donan. Yes, Yes I know every one photographs it but I thought I'd have a go too.
What surprises me when you do go to the famous locations is that the tourists don't seem to take in the fact that they are there. Instead, they take their camera or videocamera out and from stepping out the car to stepping back in all they have done is record where they were rather than actually see it. I don't understand this, why don't people take a moment to look around rather than doing it later when they get home to a computer screen?

ArdnamurchanI'm off to Ardnamurchan tomorrow for a week. So hopefully when I get back I'll have some more photos to upload here. I have a few ideas I'd like to try while I'm there providing I get decent weather. I'm staying at the western end of Ardnamurchan this time, in Portuairk so I'll be with in walking distance of Sanna Bay. Trashy photos on DA.What's wrong with DA?Trashy photos on DA.3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Lately, I've been seeing some really disturbing pictures under the "Most Popular" category.
I mean, come on people. There's a very fine line between an artistic nude and a trashy photo.
Well, some people are walking all over that line.
Oh, why do I even bother?
These people are most certainly aware of that. They just choose to upload such photos. Oh well.
But I think DA should do something about it.
There are other places where people can upload trashy photos.

there were no guarantees,
it was probably going to hurt
