The boys voice cut right through his, a smile on his face. "Tell me one thing right now, Alek" he looked Alek square in the eye, and he gulped, gripping hte fabricated leather that bound him into the seat, his knuckles white. "Do you trust me?"
Of course he trusted Dylan. He had kept Alek's secrets since they met. But this was not a matter of trust, it was a matter of life or death, or so it felt to Alek.
"Yes. I trust you." he told Dylan earnestly.
"Then listen to me when I say you'll be fine." he patted the yellow object in Alek's hand. "Just release this semaphore flag if something goes wrong, or if you get the clart scared out of you." Dylan smirked. "I'll be down here watching and I'll haul you down in a squick."
And with that Alek was climbing, no, flying. The small seat he was strapped to swung sickeningly as the godless creature Dylan called a Huxley rose into the air. Alek barely dared to watch as Dylan and the top of the Leviathan

Deryn entered her private chambers, exhausted from three days of nonstop work on the Leviathan. Finally she was able to take a few minutes to change out of her sweaty uniform and change into something more appropriate. She sighed, remembering that they'd arrive to Japan the very next day and Alek would vanish from the Leviathan forever. He would probably vanish into the wilderness and somehow find a way back to the main land and hideout until this barking daft war would be over. Deryn shook her head, clearing her thoughts of Alek from her mind, reminding herself that he was a barking prince -that's archduke you dummkopf!- and she was a lowly mooneye-eyed lassie that served as an airman. She couldn't fall for him; she couldn't, unless she wanted him to run a mile. Anyway once Alek was gone, so would her feelings for him, too. Deryn put on a determined look on her face and chased away all thoughts of Alek that entered her mind.
Cold As Stone 1Alek's eyes snapped open, his whole body shuddering. He was so cold... It was like his entire body was numb to the core. He tried to move his arms and legs, but it was like they were coated in think syrup, heavy and useless.Cold As Stone 14 years ago in Short Stories More Like This
His eyes slowly got used to the murky darkness and he noticed the ceiling above him was made of crude stone. Water was dripping from it and onto the floor beneath him, which he guessed was stone as well, judging by the craggy surface under his body. He wanted to sit up but his arms were so heavy he couldn't even budge them.
Where am I?, Alek thought to himself, his thoughts still thick. It felt like his head was floating in water, bobbing around like a piece of driftwood. He honestly did not know where he could possibly be. The last thing he remembered was being on board the Leviathan talking to, to....
Alek felt his heart speed up. Deryn! He had been talking to her when the ship had been hit! Where was she now? He had to find her. Suddenly his muscles were fueled

She Visits Her Friends
I can still see their smiles.
All my friends' familiar faces,
They stood here beside me at the eve of the gala.
Through this one night, all nights for years
Over the centuries, over the mortal lifetimes…
After gala I go to see my friends,
Meet them in their rest,
Give them my time…
This one night
I remember them, put flowers on their graves,
When they've left me
Where I cannot follow…
We had our days together.
Our laughter, rich and heartfelt.
In their company I felt peace:
Every moment's measureless ease,
No more a queen,
Not a goddess,
Just a friend.
Could I ever forget them…?
Is this the price I pay for immortality?
See them wither and fade over the passing times,
Carry the memories, when the world around forgets?
When their smiles pass away, when it's all that's lef

Malone was writing furiously into his notepad, hardly looking up at Alek. When he finally believed that it was indeed Alek, the 'dead' prince of Austria, he had been estatic.
"Yes, I'm leaving tomorrow evening, and I'm not sure when I will arrive. So if you could wait....about a month to publish your article, that would be wonderful. Don't want them waiting at the docks for me. That would make for a most tragic end to your story, wouldn't it?"
Malone nodded, still writing. He finally looked up at Alek. "I can do that, with the promise that I will get to follow up with you."
Alek agreed. "Thats fair."
Malone smiled. "I have a feeling this story is never going to be over."
Alek nodded. "Agreed. It seems no matter where I go, theres always some kind of trouble."
Alek had quite the time convincing Eddie Malone that he was indeed who he said he was. He had to pull out the scroll from the late Holy Father

"Come on Dylan, it would be fun!" Alek pleaded, almost nearly bow down to him, just to accept the offer.
"No barking way! That's sounds stupid!!"
Alek raised his head, "PPPLLLEEAASSSEEE!!!!"
Dylan shook his head, Alek knew that Dylan had a weakness, and that weakness was begging.
Dylan sighed, annoyed, and wanted to get out of there.
"Fine! But it's for fun! Got it?!"
Alek nodded, and went to the dusty book shelf, grabbed a big, old decorated book, filled with endless words, covering the pages with German.
"Okay, here's who you're playing, Benvolio, Tybalt, nurse, and "
Alek spread a smile across his face.

"NO BARKING WAY! I'm not playing a girl!"
Alek shrugged "oh, well. Here's who I'm playing. Let's see, um Prince,"
"I wanted to play him, you play Juliet!"
Alek looked at him, He chuckled.
"Well, no. You don't get to, I do. Besides, you have a pretty high voice; you can play a girl easily."

"Dylan?" The Bumrag entered her room. To be fair, Deryn's kidnapers did give her a nice room in the castle they took her to. It had a nice fluffy bed, which she refused to lay in. Large stain glass windows, which she refused to look out. Nice rich colored carpets, which she was more than happy to walk all over with her wet boots. And now Alek had brought her warm creamy soup, which she slapped from his hands to the floor.
"Get stuffed." She said in her deepest, most aggravated 'Dylan' voice.
"I'm sorry! I didn't know they would take you!" The lying Bumrag sighed. "Please try to understand." He bent dow

There were at least five hundred people in attendance, most of them sobbing their damned eyes out. Alek shook his head. He was only duke for a few months, had he earned the right to have tears shed over him?
Alek winced as he took his seat next to Deryn. The wound Volger had given him still felt fresh as the day he had recieved it. Dr. Barlow sat on Dery's right, dabbing at her eyes under the black veil cascading from her outrageous hat.
He took Deryn's hand, and she gave it a squeeze. This was going to be difficult. No matter how insane Volger had gotten, or how terrible he had been to Alek as a child, he had been there, and had sacrificed many things to make sure Alek got his chance, even his life.
Alek had found out that day that Volger and Klopp were the only two to have made it out of the Leviathan's crash. Volger must have mistaken Alek's body for Bauer's charred corpse, and Klopp had lost a leg. He sat a f

Alek whispered back "Lilit offered to make us dinner tonight, and I said yes."
Deryn coughed "Nice going." she sucked in a big breath and hurried into their room.
Alek's eyes had been watering for the last ten minutes. In an attempt to apoligise for bearing such bad news, Lilit wanted to make them all a nice meal. Alek agreed, not wanting to be rude, but also especting her to be a little better in the kitchen. Boy, was he wrong.
Lilit seemed to be enjoying herself, bustling around the kitchen, whistling happily. Lilit had run to the store that afternoon and came back with an odd array of things, some Alek had never even seen before, let alone tasted. But he felt terrible enough that Deryn had been more than unwelcoming to Lilit, he didn't want to stop her. Besides, it was too late now anyway, the entire apartment smelled of a most sickening misture of things

"Message for Captain Hobbes," Deryn said to the reptile in front of her. "Newkirk says there is a massive flying machine inbound on the dorsal end of the ship! We must act immediately! End message."
As the message lizard scampered off, Deryn put a pair of binoculars over her eyes to see the object Newkirk spoke of with his semaphores. It was still too far to see clearly, but one thing really caught her eye: the machine was huge, well bigger than the Leviathan, metal, and was flying relatively fast. No propellers in sight, either. This meant it was way too advanced to be made by the Clankers, or anyone for that matter.
Wait... could it be...?
Oh, if it was, Captain Hobbes would be furious. Still, if he really was coming, then why? What business did he have in their world?
Oh, right, he did speak of building a summer home there. But wait, it was still January. Obviously, he was there f

Deryn pulled out the materials she would need for the sketch. She decided to go with the extra dark sketch pencil and her unmarked eraser. She needed the sketch to come out as close to perfect as possible.
Deryn then pushed herself closer to Alek; she left one leg extended forward while the other held the sketch pad in place on her lap. Deryn then placed the pencil between her teeth and slowly examined the new project before her.

From inside, the little castle didn't seem so bad.
"How long are we to stay here?" Alek asked while taking in the scene.
"Until this madness ends." Someone new, but familiar, came out of the shadows of the castle.
"Good to see you're well, Your Highness." Count Volger said with a bow.
"I'm glad you brought him here safely." The still shadowed figure approached Alek, putting a hand on his shoulder. It was only then that Alek could clearly see the face of his late father. "Welcome home, son."
(So, it would be really fun to end it there, but people will hurt me, so here we go.)
"Father?" Alek asked perplexed. How could he be alive? Father and Mother had been killed, poisoned! "How are you- wait! Is Mother?!"

Chapter 11 "Trees"Unbarking believeable, Deryn thought as they scrambled out the door, the emergency alarm threatening to rip her eardrums apart. Greed now rules the spoils of war.
Queen has set her throne on the royal hall (the ruins of the realm)
I have walked through the dark
I have fought my way out of her prison.
I have witnessed the war
I have found my love wrapped in oblivion.
The eldritch swarm over our world,
My shining one, where have you gone?
Devourer's claws hold on your heart,
My shining love, where are you lost?
Broken harmony, its protectors fell
Imprisoned their kin, in repressed tears (the realm of peace)
From beasts he swore to shield his home,

Wake from the queen's dormant veil,
Within your heart resides our hope.
In despair we need your gallant strength,
