The 100 Themes ChallengeThe 100 Themes ChallengeThe 100 Themes Challenge8 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
We know there a few clubs out there now supporting this challenge.
However, many of those clubs are inactive or having troubles. So, we decided to create an 100 themes challenge club that supports the original list AND 4 other variations meaning we should have something for everybody.
For those who don't know, allow me to explain.
The 100 Themes Challenge is a project where you are given a list of 100 words/themes to create pieces on up untill you complete the whole list. And there is no time limit! Its a good job because this can take ages to complete. Not a very good challenge for the impatient I must admit. And you can complete this challenge in whatever medium you want. That includes poetry and prose. You don't have to stick to one medium throughout. You use whatever you like and you don't have to do the list in order either!
And, if you had fun completing it the first time, you can go try another variation and try another list all over again!

My latest course on shading explains how to create realistic lighting using Photoshop. The beautiful part is that the information taught in the course applies to any subject and any medium. The shading techniques course is more than a slick demo or a Photoshop tutorial. It’s core, fundamental principles and concepts of realistic light and shadow.
In this article, I’ll demonstrate how to apply shading techniques to a portrait. See video below for a portrait shading demonstration from a recent ‘Draw With Chris’ Livestream. Photoshop is the medium used in the video. Oil paint is used in the demo for the text version below.
For complete, step by step breakdown, read on…

While trying to work out how to get to the Convention Showgrounds from Southern Cross Station, the first suggestion I got was to take a helicopter to Batman park. That is how cool Australia is
I haven't seen any spiders or crocodiles or anything that could kill me with a bite yet (unless you count the lady at the bus stop with the teeth)
I would share with you my beautiful photos of Melbourne,

RAoK - Random Acts of Kindness.
Once, when I was just received my driver's license and still hadn't learned to keep track of my various gauges - like, say, the gas gauge - my car sat in a parking lot and refused to start. My poor car was empty, as was my wallet. A generous stranger was kind enough to purchase a tank of gas for me. When I asked how could I repay him, penniless as I was, he merely asked me, one day, to help someone else out. That RAoK experience has stayed with me throughout the years.
A RAoK can take many forms. It can be helping out without being asked or an unexpected gift. For this month's contest, let's show the love to our fellow deviants and dear ones. Write a gift fic for someone close to you. It can be another deviant (there's so many wonderful people here!) or someone offline (spread the love!). Write your fan fict

Smoothing, Sanding, Buffing Polymer ClaySmoothing, Sanding, and Buffing polymer clay is definately something that you don't hear a lot about in the younger polymer clay community, but it certainly does make your pieces look a lot better in the long run. If you smooth, sand, and buff your clay AND add a layer of varnish - watch out, your pieces will look as bright, beautiful and glossy as a piece of delicious candy.Smoothing, Sanding, Buffing Polymer Clay7 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Have you ever noticed that translucent clay really isn't THAT translucent? Well, if you smooth, sand, and buff it - you'll be seeing differently! It really DOES get see-through!
Give these tips a try, and although I can't guarantee that you will get it right the first time, practice makes perfect, and sometimes new techniques take a little getting used to before you find a way that works the best for you.
Smoothing your clay is what you do to your clay before you bake it. Running your fingers along the surface and smoothing out bumps and impurities can work wonders on a piece and give it a ve

Who doesn't like experimenting with media? I admit that I didn't expect it to be so fun until I actually sat down to it. Below you'll find a list of some weird things I did to a bunch of innocent watercolour rectangles.
Salt and sugar
Salt is nothing new for people who's been dealing with watercolour for some time. Depending on the amount of water, pigment, and salt - as well as the grain size - you can acquire a whole variety of textures. They all have the same thing in common - they push the pigment out, and leave brighter spots. I have a separate article on salt textures here.
The green bit was treated with the common kitchen salt, small grains. The pink one was hit with coarse bathing salt - as you might have guessed, it was blue. Contrary to what you might expect, thicker grains won't get you bigger "anti-stains".
I've heard a lot about

Cherry Biscuit CakeThis cake is rather easy to make and doesn't need much experience.Cherry Biscuit Cake3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
But keep in mind when I am talking of cup I mean a real cup and not an unit for measurement!
Better start with a smaller cup if you are not sure how much dough you will get at the end.
It needs to fit into the baking sheet, otherwise it could end with a mess ;)
Mix the eggs, sugar, flour, baking powder and oil until you get a smooth dough. Blend the soda or sparkling water completely afterwards.
Add the dough to a fatted baking sheet and let it bake for about 25min at 170°C (air circulation enabled) until it gets a light tanning.
Bring the sour cherries with the juice of two jars to the boil. Keep the juice of the third jar for later.
Mix the custard powder with a bit of the cherry juice(until it is all liquid and there are no lumps left). Optionally you can add a bit of sugar as well. I never do though.
Once the cherries boil add the custard powder and let it all thicken.

What Is Fan Fiction?
Everyday, we are inspired by movies, television, novels, and other forms of media. They engage our minds with a variety of stories and characters, their plights and triumphs, their everyday minutiae. Fan fiction authors are so enamored with these other worlds and their inhabitants that they must partake in the stories which have brought them so much enjoyment. They expand on the current universe, explain gaps in the narrative and delve into characters' motivations.
A good fan fiction (or fanfic) is more than simple borrowing another writer's characters and universe. The fan fiction author must immerse his or her readers in the story, make them believe it is a natural extension of the source material. Characters have their own mannerisms and quirks; each universe has its own history and rules that need to be followed. The fan fiction author must master the nuances of those characters and the world they inhabit (unless purposely writi

Do you feel like no one cares about your artwork? That no matter how hard you try, you'll never improve? Well, I've been there before.
A little less than a year ago, I didn't even have 100 watchers. It was tough trying to find commissions, even though I priced them around 10 - 100 an hour. Sure, I had some wonderful people supporting me (thank you very much for that!), but when I looked at the thousands of diehard fans the "popular" artists had, I felt kinda useless. It seemed like even a thousand watchers, or just being able to earn minimum wage was impossible. Sometimes I wanted to cry from all the effort I put in. I kept drawing and drawing but barely improving. I was frustrated and felt useless. But instead of giving up, I pushed myself even harder, and by God's grace it's starting to work out for me.
I now have over 16,000 amazing people encouraging me, and I know it's only a matter of tim

It doesn't really exactly feel like that long ago when I first started visiting dA and now it's already been a decade.
So kinda for myself (and also anyone possibly interested) here's a journal post recapping my last 10 years~ (Also sort of my journal in photography too, I guess.)

I signed up on dA when someone in the drawing group I hung out with told me to check out his works here. I was only 14 then. I didn't use dA a lot at the time because it looked like this: http://web.archive.org/web/20030426063919/http://www.deviantart.com/
I was on a 15" 1024x768 display and the ad banner + dA header took up half my screen on every page load. Did not like. >_>
I dropped by dA every now and then, in Sept I suddenly found it a lot more user-friendly, the new version: http://web.archive.org/web/20030922013355/http://www.deviantart.com/

Cephius Information (Original Species)Basic information about the Cephius Original Species:Cephius Information (Original Species)2 years ago in Personal More Like This
● Cephius is a closed species
● Adopted characters may be used for personal, roleplay, and original stories purposes
● You are free to modify the designs of the characters you own
● You are by no means obliged to follow the information listed (you are free to adapt the information / story to your own liking)
The most prominent features of a Cephius are its single or double halos, usually located around their ears, and cross-shaped patterns on their ears and/or skin. The colour of the halo(s) and cross patterns differ from individual to individual, and occasionally a Cephius may be an exception who lacks one of these traits. Many of them exibit the dominant white pupil phenotype. During development, Cephius are encased inside a wing-shaped womb. The wings are shed off after birth, and remnant wing scars remain on their backs.
