I had about 14 hours straight of nature photography today attempting to capture Utah's spectacular Fall Colors, from sunrise to this amazing sunset, it was a memorable day.

This was taken a few weeks ago back at what I'm sure many of you will now recognize as Sun Dial Peak, reflecting in the peaceful waters of Lake Blanche. I think the two make a pretty nice pair.

A near full moon rises above the towering peaks of the snow-capped Wasatch Mountains of Northern Utah. This was a case of being in the right place at the right time. A long hike on the trail of wildlife led me to this overlook just in time for this amazing scene.

I quickly changed my set-up and switched into "landscape mode" when the light started to look promising. I hope you enjoy!

This might be my favorite image so far of 2012.

I love the way the image came out but the experience is what puts it at or near the top of the list.

I was deep in this canyon for most of the day but I could see the wispy clouds hanging high in the atmosphere, I was trying to think of a shot where I could capitalize on the color of the clouds even down in the canyon. A friend of mine had taken a shot here during mid-day on his trip into the canyon a year prior and earlier in the day I noticed how the light was hitting under this enormous cliff. I came back to the spot at sunset, and right on cue the sky lit up, illuminating the underside of this staggering cliff with soft light providing the unique conditions for the image I was hoping for.

Albion Basin in Little Cottonwood Canyon is littered with a variety of wildflowers. I caught these Indian Paintbrush in the foreground as the setting sun hit some of the Wasatch's Peaks.

Ostler Peak in Utah's High Uintas mountain range catches the last rays of a sunset. The smoke from the fires spread across the state give the unobstructed sunset light a fiery orange haze, adding to the drama of an already dramatic landscape. You can see the nearly full moon making an early appearance in the top left of the image.

Coyote Natural Bridge in none other than Coyote Gulch, Utah.

The textures of the canyon walls are impressive, the right light allows us to see the stories these walls have to tell. This bridge is an amazing piece of geology. Taken on a backpacking trip in late Autumn.
