Oh my guiness, that took me all day. I hope it was worth it.

I always wanted to paint the Fellowship of the Ring (you know which ring), but of course I was too lazy to design their clothes and to put so many people on a single sheet of paper. So I did a compromise: it's a tiny (not even DIN4), really quick painting. Hence the sketchiness.

WORK IN PROGRESS: The Lords of Ñoldor - The House of Finwë - Character Portraits
[or Ñoldorin Character Sketches -Redux-]

This is a by-product of my ambitious “Lords of the Ñoldor” WIP project.. a revised version of my character portrait compilation to serve as a reference sheet for myself (and hopefully a handy way to check who’s who among the Ñoldor for others.. ;)).

I will keep this in Scraps as a WIP and update it as I complete more characters for the main project. When(/if..) I have completed them all, I’ll finalize it and move it to my main gallery.. (and dump the old sketch to scraps).

As a © note, Finwë’s heraldic design is by Tolkien (as are all characters and names, naturally..), the four house emblems are by me. All drawn by me.

It’s a WIP, so comments and ideas on how to improve the layout etc. are welcome!

Individual character designs can be seen more properly at their respective WIP pages:

Edit- check out the walkthrough for this here: [link]

Here's my final for the Environment of the Week challenge over on conceptart, the one hundred and sixty seventh of a long and illustrious line of EoWs to be exact.

The challenge was to create an elemental dragon hatchery, so after a really bad sketch for a water/ice one I switched to earth and sketched out this which seemed pretty cool so I took it to final. Only had like two days to finish it due to a weird week of not doing stuff and doing other stuff, but I'm pretty happy with how it came out, I think I'm starting to settle in to a painting process... for now, at least.

Also I actually remembered to save progress shots of this one, so I'll toss up a walkthrough for it pretty soon.

Hope ya dig it!

ROUND #181:: Cú Chulainn

progress soon in my sketchbook [link]

Cú Chulainn is an Irish hero from Celtic/Gaelic culture. He also appears in Scottish and Manx storytelling. He was a knight of the 1st century and often compared to Achilles in Greek Mythology. When enraged he would become a ‘bezerker’ as in Viking culture. He was slain in a fight and like El Cid in later history, was propped up in an heroic pose, spear in hand to strike fear into his enemies even after death, and it was only when a raven landed on his shoulder that his demise was revealed.

He was seen as an Irish hero, riding a chariot, and defending Ulster against usurpers including Queen Medb of Connaught and even appeared to Saint Patrick as a ghost.

Cú Chulainn‘s appearance is open to interpretation, but he is described as clean shaven, young ( he died at 27 ), and some tales tell he had seven fingers on each hand and seven toes on each foot. And seven pupils in each eye. There is much description of him on his Wikipedia page, as there is of his life. There should be plenty of inspiration there in his adventures for an interesting version of this mythological hero.

Another character commission, this one for mah friend =CrowbarTK-Hullo of her character Calnin!

Really enjoyed this one, nothing quite like painting crazy alien dudes with glowy energy wings! Funnily, this isn't the first time I've painted this guy, the last one is a rather horrific sight to see- [link] Oh the joy of old things. =P

Hope you dig it!

Here's another commission for ~Squeake of some friend's RPG characters! It was a lot of fun, it's been a while since I've done this much perspective drawing, definitely need to brush up on it. I ended up having 75 different layers for the drawing stage cause I was sorting out each element in multiple passes, haha, but I think it turned out well.

Definitely gonna try and do more complex pieces like this, they're a fun challenge!

Thanks for looking!

When he had promised their father to look after Dylan, Aidan should have known it was nigh impossible to look after anyone in the midst of a battle - even more so when the one in question despised being looked after.

Pencil lineart and Photoshop colouring.

And gosh, it's been a while. I wouldn't be too surprised if this would actually remain my only submitted image for this year. O.O The baby is fine, I have another two months before she joins our not-so-little-anymore family... but she objects to drawing a lot more than her brother did. Keeps kicking if I sit at the table for too long. Bad girl. ;)
