Interview with FlipflopperyThe project of featuring comic artists is back!Interview with Flipfloppery2 months ago in Art Features More Like This
Welcome here and let me introduce you, Flipfloppery, who is a really talented artist with an amazing and interesting comic called, Awaken.
♣ Let's start simple. Please, could you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Hey! I'm Koti Saavedra, aka Flipfloppery on the internet, I'm 27 and I'm from Chile. I graduated from animation some years ago and I was working as an animator in a studio I co-founded until recently, but right now I'm in the process of making my webcomic Awaken my full time job. I like creating stories and characters the most, so I'm aiming to do that for a living.
♣ What inspired you to make comics?

Interview with MaxyHere is the next part of my new project, featuring comic artists. This time let me introduce you, maxyvert As we already know she has nice and unique style and interesting comics with lovely characters and stories. Let's see.Interview with Maxy7 months ago in Art Features More Like This
♣ Let's start simple. Please, could you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Hi, I'm maxyvert from a little country,Hungary. I'm 21 and currently attending to an art university. I like making comics and illustrations one day I'd like to make a fully hand-painted comic.
♣ What inspired you to make comics?
When I was 9, I started to read W.i.t.c.h. magazines, and I really liked the style and the story so I wanted to make similar things.
TO YOU ASPIRING ARTISTS...FROM JOE MADUREIRAHere's some of the most amazing and invaluable advice you'll most-likely ever get from one of my good colleagues and legends in comics/gaming, creator JOE MADUREIRA. It's what i've been preaching to you aspiring artists since i arrived on DA, but i think his POV says it perfectly:TO YOU ASPIRING ARTISTS...FROM JOE MADUREIRA2 years ago in Personal More Like This
*WARNING: SOME MATURE LANGUAGE*
"DO YOU REALLY WANT TO BE A SUCCESSFUL ARTIST?
Or a successful WORKING PROFESSIONAL?
Believe it or not there is a difference. I'm not usually a soapbox type guy, I don't like instructing people, and I think I'm a terrible teacher. But hey, it's Friday and I'm in a strange mood. So here goes:
I've noticed that a good number of my fans happen to be aspiring artists themselves. This is for all you guys. I get asked constantly: "Where should I go to school?" "What classes should I take?" "What should I study for anatomy?" "What pencils and paper do you use?" "Should I be working digitally now instead of traditionally?" "How do I fix my poses? Learn composition? Perspective?" "When

Comic-Con: Day 2Comic-Con Day 2 was all about cosplay, fandom, and art, art, art!Comic-Con: Day 22 years ago in DeviantART Announcements More Like This
Before we get into the thick of things, we didn’t have a photo of our huge plasma screens hanging from the convention ceiling to share in our Day 1 recap, so we vowed to get that to you today! The 11 foot wide screens stream amazing works of art from Artists' Alley participants to the whole convention floor!
In Comic-Cons past, the foot traffic In Artists’ Alley got busier and busier as the week progressed, and this year is no exception. There’s something magical about speaking one-on-one with a deviant, learning their experiences, hearing how they started as an artist, and how far they’ve come. It’s an emotional connection to make with someone who was practically a stranger a few moments ago -- and then you realize you’re not really strangers when you

prints...?I know I've asked about this before... but I thought I'd ask again, if anyone would be interested in buying prints of some of my drawings?prints...?3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I'm not sure what the prices will be.. I want to visit the local Graphic Design print place thingy (gosh I have no idea what those places are called. But they make everything from stickers and posters to car motifs and whatnot.), and ask them if they can make some prints for me, and what it would cost.
If it's not too expensive, I might take pre-orders
Pre-orders, because otherwise I'll never afford making prints.. That's why the t-shirt plan didn't work out: I couldn't afford it.
So I was wondering WHO would be interested in buying a print? PS: saying "I would!" doesn't mean you have to buy one. This is a question about who would be interested.
Also, which of the drawings in my gallery would you like to see as a print? And how big? (varying from size A5 to A1)
I'll let you know prices and stuff later when I've figured this all out
Do Artists Matter?Do we matter?Do Artists Matter?1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I'm specifically talking about "us" as designers, artists, or creative people. Do artists matter?
I have two personal stories that have helped me gauge and answer that question for myself. I hope they help you too.
(SIDE NOTE: I believe in a God and I believe that God loves me and leads my path but that I have free will and can turn from his leading and do my "own thing". Both of these stories have a TON of "God flavoring" that would make them much longer, so know that they are there if you want to read between the lines and find them. In short, both stories are answers to prayer.)
After 9/11 I felt worthless. Making cartoons just wasn't important in the new post 9/11 world. Firemen, policemen, construction workers, teachers, healthcare workers, architects- really, anyone that contributes to rebuilding our world and its infrastructure, those people had important jobs to do. We

this movie, omg... "Ookami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki"this movie, omg...2 years ago in Personal More Like This
watch it. It's amazing, seriously.
(image found on Tumblr: http://evangelizer.tumblr.com/post/43670310560 )
It's about werewolves, yes, but not cheesy, stupid Twilight "werewolves" or whatever... These are my new favorite type of werewolves, and I'll probably never think of werewolves as vicious bad-guys ever again.
This was a beautiful story of a mother and her two children. I loved the story, really did. I even sort of started wanting to have kids on my own as well I mean, Ami and Yuki were so sweet, and funny, and realistic - personality and behavior wise.
And their mother was a fantastic character. I really, really liked how she was portrayed.
I could go on about how much I just loved this movie.. But I'll shut up and just recommend it to you all instead.
Do yourself a favor, and watch this incredible movie
Live the dream, don't talk about it!Doug TenNapel, independent comics creator, is an inspiration to me in many ways. He has a fun, accessible art style that is dramatic and fresh. His story telling is always askew in the best of ways. I don't think I've read one of his graphic novels without having some smiles and a surprise or two along the way. On top of that, he is outspoken about almost everything in his life. (I think of him as the Rush Limbaugh of comics- oh man, that sounds really bad, but early Rush, not present day Rush, if that helps.) I agree with most things he states on Facebook. BUT- the thing I am most inspired about him is his drive (in the old days we would call that "work ethic"). The guy does NOT give up. Because of that, he single-handedly will put out a new graphic novel a year. While creating a webcomic. While pitching new TV show development ideas in Hollywood. While running a half marathon. While working freelance jobs.Live the dream, don't talk about it!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Christmas Greetings!Just dropping by to wish you all, every single one of you, a fantastic and merry Christmas!Christmas Greetings!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
My apologies for not having drawn any Christmas stuff (yet) this year... I've been far too busy with Christmas preparations..
I'm happy to say though, that I have finally got myself a laptop again! I've been using a desktop computer for the last.. I dunno, is it two years now? Three? Anyways, I've really missed having the oportunity to bring my computer around with me, and especially the oportunity to just sit somewhere comfy with the computer on my lap and just write..! Or draw, for that matter
I got this computer yesterday (early Christmas present for myself? lawl ) and it's really powerful for a laptop, methinks. So hopefully, and most likely, it will handle Photoshop like a dream. It's got Windows 8 though, which almost was a dealbreaker for me, but I figured, hey, I like trying out new, technological stuff, so why not give it a try? And I gotta say, I was really sceptic

You are a glitch. Unable to leave your game, and unable to be loved by the other game characters. You live in the game Fix-it Felix Jr. You really don't know how you got here. You just... appeared, I guess. You think your a nicelander, but you are very different. You are very tall and slim, you would say you were about 5 foot 9, meaning that the normal nicelanders were at your knee. Like, you said you indeed dressed like a nicelander. You wore a long (f/c) dress and some (f/c) flats. You weren't allowed to be in the game, so you would just hang out in the dump where all the bricks went. After closing, a nice woman named Mary would take you in and she would let you make cakes with her.
One day, at closing, you were making some small cakes with Mary when you looked out the window. You saw the game's villian, Wrec
