How to interview a politician.A tiny snippet from Jeremy Paxman's interview with Silvio Berlusconi. How to interview a politician.1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Some might not know who Berlusconi is: he's a media tycoon, 3 time Prime Minister of Italy and is generally regarded as the face of political vice and corruption in Europe.
Many won't know who Paxman is: he's the brick that the BBC throw at people like Berlusconi. His questions being so blunt that it's nigh on impossible to wriggle out of answering them without looking more of a prat than you did at the start.
I'm pretty sure that Paxman also hates that fact that you, whoever you are, share the same planet as him:
These aren't outtakes. This stuff airs

Now, I will defend the intelligence of Americans until the day I die. Much of my favourite writing, movies, games, comics and music comes from over there. They're not an inately stupid people. Every nation has its morons. It's just American morons are the f**king benchmark.

The Used Furniture Review are now accepting submissions, and are also in the process of looking for some new columnists. Now bear with me here, I know it sounds like I'm sending you to write for a niche magazine about futons, but they're an online only literature magazine that features a plethora of writing, including Kate Eisenberg's Famous Battle Cries column.
The webzine can be found here, with a handy top bar for navigation so you can see what kind of thing they have available to you.
There is no deadline for submission or columnist applications, all they're looking for is, well, everything. From the columnist side of things, they're looking for:
''Sequential Art'' CompetitionMy webcomic, Sequential Art, is 10 years old. I started it back in June 2005.''Sequential Art'' Competition2 months ago in Personal More Like This
As a little celebration, I thought I’d run a contest (something I’d actually been meaning to do for a while).
It’s fairly straightforward. There will be two top prizes, each awarded to the best of the following: The best image (best art wins. Simple) and the funniest image (Art quality isn’t as important as the idea behind it).
To be in with a chance of winning, all you need do is draw something related to the Sequential Art webcomic. It could be a single character, multiple characters, your own strip, anything. Draw it and post a link to it in the comments section of this journal.
First prize for each of the two categories is:
A copy of Sequential Art Volume 4
A print of the 10 year image (seen below)
A free commission (colour. Single character)
There will also be 10 runners up (total), each of whom will
Literature DD Roundup- June 2013Hello all!Literature DD Roundup- June 20132 years ago in Literature Features More Like This
We’re scarily already halfway through the year! Next month sees another round of camp NaNoWrimo as well as the glorious Flash Fiction Month. We hope to see lots of involvement and good writing come out of those!
Us CVs are really keen to see some diversity in our DD choices each month. We’re keen to see pieces that are a little different, or broach genres/themes that perhaps are not as common as others. If you do see anything out there which meets those and are fabulously written, please do send in your DD suggestions to any of us!
Here is the roundup for June

Our Anniversary Gift, To You
Today marks theWrittenRevolution's fifth anniversary, and we can finally re-start a project we were very fond of: and in the best tWR fashion, we bring it back to you packed with innovation!
What is the Mentorship Project?
It's a learning system for our members, that works through a series of mentees (aka the deviants who want to learn, or rather, "be taught" new things) and mentors (the more experienced deviants who feel confident enough to teach - and maybe learn something new also ), that we help form pairs to follow the Project.
What does the project consist of?

Literature Articles You Should KnowI don't take the time to write good community-building articles, I'm no good at it. But organizing good community articles? I'm all over that! Many thanks go to the great people who put so much of their time and energy into this site. If you don't know these people, they are intelligent, kind hearted, and entirely too good to be associating with layabouts like me. They deserve a lot more, but I recommend thanking them with llamas, points, gifts, praise... or watch them. I've yet to see anything bad come from any of these guys. Oh, and if you aren't watching CRLiterature you should be.Literature Articles You Should Know2 years ago in Literature Features More Like This
I'm going to try and catalog the most recent postings of various literature articles that the
crazyamazing people of our community produce. It's hard to keep track of them all, but somebody has to try! And in the "those who cannot do" mentality, I can handle list-making as opposed to creating a series of my own. Everything that ends up on this p
The Travelling Lemon: Writers' EditionThis randomly came to me. Yay Cabin Pressure! The Travelling Lemon: Writers' Edition3 years ago in Personal More Like This
HOW TO PLAY:
Two players- both must be writers. The first "hider" lists four to seven stories(/chapters) from his/her gallery (depending on length, preferrably fanfictions) that the lemon may be hidden in. Beforehand, of course, he/she has randomly placed the word "lemon" in one of them (NOTE: ONE AND ONLY ONE OF THEM). This can be accomplished by hitting the EDIT>EDIT TEXT buttons on the deviation. The seeker must then look through the stories, until he/she finds the lemon. He/she will then post a comment on whichever deviation the lemon was found in, in this format:
"[sentence/phrase where the lemon was found]" [list of his/her stories where the lemon is hidden]
Taunting sentences such as, "The lemon is in play" may also be added. If the seeker cannot find the lemon, then he/she must admit defeat.
Place the lemon thick in the plot where your opponent will be too busy anxiously reading to notice it

My Landscape PhotographyHi! my name is Ferdinand I'm a digital artist working as an Art Director in game and outsourcing company. Beside doing paintings i also love photography most of my images are landscapes. I really like shooting landscapes because it's gives you the freedom and have the chance to explore your world around you and there's no limits on how you visualize your creativity. And it's a great source of inspiration and reference that i applied on my paintings. HOW MANY YEARS IN ZEE FUTURE DO YOU THINK ZEE CAPTAIN PRESIDES IN?
Methods of rationality reviewI used to think that fan-fictions are mostly silly, but to take a well known book like Harry Potter and to completely re-invent it, all while teaching people about rationality, science and reasoning? Methods of rationality review4 years ago in Personal More Like This
That takes some serious writing skills.
I recommend you read Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality here as well:
Beware that it's not even concluded and that the unfinished story will probably leave you hanging at the last chapter.
Nevertheless it's a gread read.
I much prefer Eliezer Yudkowsky's Harry Potter to the original.
It's almost as if Harry Potter is replaced by someone like Ender from Ender's game, no longer someone who constantly suffers and complains, but someone who takes control/advantage of every possible situation.
One hundred and seven thumbs up.

Do You Want to Host a Workshop?Hello allDo You Want to Host a Workshop?1 year ago in Literature Features More Like This
As you may be aware, I recently revived Writers-Workshop and now into the fourth workshop since starting again. Three of these workshops have been run by myself, but what made the group so awesome in the past was having different hosts each month. This also meant drawing in from different experiences, skills and cultures from all over deviantART, giving a wide variety of workshop choices. We are now looking for future workshop hosts, trying to book up to the end of this year, with a different workshop each month.
You can run it by yourself, or with a friend or on behalf of another group, we are all for that. Your workshop can also be whatever you like as long as it fits the month period. If you are unfamiliar with our group format, it might be worth keeping an eye on the current workshops to see how it all works. There is a dedicated backroom team to support you also, so you're not

This interview will be double:
with Carmalain7, Vigilo, jade-pandora and betwixtthepages answering questions about poetry, and illuminara and LiliWrites answering about prose.
The second lesson of our Mentorship Project for poetry will be about verses, linebreaks, stanzas and other basics. And the prose lesson will be on paragraph division and dialogue. So our guests will be answering some questions about these aspects of writing.

MinecraftI just got Minecraft and holy hell is it addictive. I've played around with the iPhone app before (building stuff with infinite blocks with no enemies to fear), but I wasn't prepared for how addictive the full version of the game actually is.Minecraft4 years ago in Personal More Like This
To my credit, I had a little help before starting the game by using a seed which spawned me in the middle of a NPC village, thus giving me shelter and resources to survive my first few treacherous nights. But after a few days had passed and I got used to the controls and crafting, I ventured out and built my own little hut and started digging away.
The first few nights were exceptionally scary, even though I was in a nice safe house. But gradually I learned that Creepers are less creepy to me now than they are simply annoying, and I find myself being more creeped out by those ominous Ender Men.
After digging a very inefficient hole near my house and gather up more resources (cobblestone) than I could handle, I decided to venture out and build a bi
