so, this july i am starting death vigil, published by image/top cow. it will be a monthly series limited to three 8-issue arcs, so there is a definitive ending. with this i have learned some of the things about publishing independent comics, and i am planning a video with some tips after i summarize my experiences. hopefully it will prove helpful for others to get their stuff published
but apparently rule 1 is promote preorders. preorders are crucial for independent books as they define the print runs, and are crucial to the sucess of the book.. so.. as my far more experienced friends told me to do....
death vigil is preorderable ...pretty much in any place or webstore that carries US comics.
you can find an extensive preview to issue 1 and much more here

Trumped up.Yeah, I’m bored with Trump's prattling now, too, but he’s yet another loudmouth who is claiming Britain has “no go” areas for non-Muslims.Trumped up.2 months ago in Personal More Like This
Earlier in the year, Faux News was claiming that Birmingham was some sort of Crusader-era Muslim stronghold where anyone not of that faith got their hands chopped off if they dared enter the city….which was news to me as I’d just bought some comics there that day - http://jollyjack.deviantart.com/journal/Bahrainham-506584117
Now, His Trumpiness is claiming that London is swarming with radicals and the police fear for their lives - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-35037007
Shortly after he spouted this, a rather handy pie-chart surfaced online. One that I think should calm any fears about security within the capital:

My personal online psychiatrist is making me narrate this nonsense down on the chip embedded in my tooth in hopes that someday I may be cured of my "incompatibility" with ANNET, or at least possibly reduce the "mild psychosis caused by work-related stress" as she calls it.
I know that it's not going to happen. The problem is something genetic and while those goons in the genetics department would love to get their machines into my brain, I prefer the lack of sleep and headaches to lobotomy.
I seen the reports on their test subjects: "total neural shut-down", "subject resists integration with the net, increasing the signal strength lead to damage to the 85% of the frontal lobe."
Call me old fashioned, but I like my brain the way it is.
I've had that day-dream again. Day-mare is more likely.
A flash-mare? Not sure what to call these, really.
The transmitter towers dotting this bloody city are making my life difficult, but not as difficult as the fact that everyone expects me t

But... there are some really great news! At least I think so, and I think, you'll be of the same opinion...
On 14th of November John Finnemore announced (in his Blog "Forget What Did") when the new series of Cabin Pressure will be on BBC Radio 4.
The series is going to start on Wednesday, 9th of January 2013 and will be broadcast six weeks. And another good thing: the cast is unchanged!
There is not really anything more to say, I just thought I would share the good news with you and hope you are as excited as I am
I've been rather busy lately, so thanks for posting this!
Good news is the tickets are up for applications until November 25!! So if you haven't already, head over here http://www.bbc.co.uk/showsandtours/shows/shows/cabin_pressure_dec2012 and good luck

9/11I know it's one day late, but I still wanted to pay my respects to all the innocent people who were lost and the heroes who faught to save many lives valiantly on the day that 9/11 occurred. Every year I sit down, increasingly by myself over the most recent years which becomes most upsetting, to watch all the 9/11 documentaries and ceremonies aired on television of 9/11.9/113 years ago in Personal More Like This
I remember on September 11th 2001, I was in the classroom with many other children in early morning as the teachers crowded around the portable classroom television holding their faces and gasping as tears ran down their faces. We were all sent home after that, and as I got in the car my mother told me something bad had happened to alot of people as tears streaked her face. When we got home, my mother turned on the televsion and what I saw will forever be imprinted in my memory. It was just after the first tower had been hit. From then on my mother tried to occupy my brother and I from watching, but nothing could keep

How to Write a Query LetterPublishing WeekHow to Write a Query Letter11 months ago in Literature Features More Like This
A query is kind of what it sounds like -- you're ASKING an agent or publisher if they're interested in seeing your book. But a query is more than hey what's up I'm awesome my book is awesome look at it plz! You have to write a professional letter that will entice the person who will read it into writing back with a HECK YES SHOW ME YOUR BOOK! (Okay, they probably won't say it like that. But you get the gist.)
The first line in your query should be:
Dear Ms./Mr. AgentLastName OR Dear Ms/Mr. EditorLastName
This might sound obvious, but you never EVER want to address a query with Dear Sirs/Madams or To Whom it May Concern. You also don't want to address it to the publisher or the agency. You are writing a specific agent or a specific editor, whom you've taken the time to research. You know what this person likes and you think he or she will like your book. So address them personally.
The next lines should should look something like:
What Is a Literary Journal?Art in the Professions WeekWhat Is a Literary Journal?5 months ago in Literature Features More Like This
There are lots of magazines out there. Ones you might be more familiar with are the ones you can buy at the grocery store check-out aisle—Elle, Vogue, People, Cooking Light. You know, that stuff. But most of these magazines publish work that is along the lines of journalism, or occasionally creative non fiction (CNF) and criticism (reviews). Magazines you might not be as familiar with are literary journals. You probably won't find these at the grocery store. You might, but it's probably just The New Yorker. The Paris Review if you're at some schmancy place. These are some of the oldest and most celebrated literary magazines in the world, and they publish creative nonfiction, criticism, fiction, poetry, and other in-between-y type pieces. But they're just drops in the ocean of the lit mag esta
Be Clueless, Write Awesome. Why finish anything when you might not be good enough yet?Be Clueless, Write Awesome.1 year ago in Personal More Like This
There are myriad ways to avoid completing a project, and one of them is to become the eternal student. Always learning, always improving, so that future hypothetical story keeps getting better and better... While somehow never making its way into reality.
But on the other hand, it might help to know a bit about swimming before jumping overboard. So where do you draw the line? What do you absolutely need to know before getting your feet wet with a story?
I can't speak for anyone else. But when I started Dreamkeepers, I didn't know jack about story.
I didn't know about inciting events, verisimilitude, thematic armature, pinch points, none of it.
Quite simply, I did not know what the hell I was doing. Which makes for an interesting question about my first books.
Why don't they suck?
Professional reviewers have said "the writing was absolutely golden," that they were "completely blown awa

Clive Barker Wants To Read Your Writing
Artwork by CliveBarker
You know CliveBarker as the master of horror fiction and young adult fantasy. But did you know he is also an acclaimed fine artist with paintings hanging in several galleries and art institutions?
For Halloween this year, Clive is going to take a break from writing stories for you—and read your original stories based on some of the artwork he's created.
As inspiration for your tale of horror or mystery or special wonder, Clive is providing the prompts of his own paintings that are to be your starting points.
What’s the story behind the painting?
Clive himself will judge the submitted imaginings and decide which work of prose best captures the untold

If you don't know already, you're apparently living under a rock, but PeskyAngel and I are constant pranksters. Hence why rules such as "no Pop Rocks allowed in the house" and "Grim isn't allowed to have Jello" had to be made. Did you know that cocoa powder can be reconstituted into eye shadow? Or that a couple drops of food coloring in a shampoo bottle aren't noticeable at first, but once the suds are running down the drain, it's not so much fun? Oh, and adding super glue to the night stand slick is never a good idea; they just don't like each other.
If you plan to come live with us, you may want to take a basic chemistry refresher course for your own safety. And buy bubble wrap. LOTS of bubble wrap. But whatever you do, do NOT trust Grim whe

Prompt 8: AnarchyWhat happens—really happens—the day after the revolution kills the king?Prompt 8: Anarchy5 months ago in Literature Features More Like This
Who is most affected by waking up in anarchy?
What aspects of ordinary life would be most upturned if the government suddenly disappeared?
1000-1500 wordsThe focus of your story should not be anyone with a political presence. No ancien régime representatives, no remorseless anarchists. They don't have to be ordinary, but they do have to be relatively apolitical.Story opens with the morning after the revolution.
Link anything inspired by the prompt here, as I'd like to read it. Please link this prompt in your artist's comments.
