Everyday we're CV'ingAs a Community Volunteer - I do as much or as little within the community that I feel comfortable doing. We're not pressured to do this and that, we don't even have to give a Daily Deviation every day, we choose how we promote our selected galleries/chats and forums and we're not fixed to any specific rule on how much or how little we do. But I do believe that it's important to share with you just what the community volunteers do and why we do it. More importantly it's so easy to get lost on this site full of many people - and miss out on the awesome that's going on. So I'm going to share with you exactly what the latest awesome is...Everyday we're CV'ing3 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Almost every week since October last year the Community Volunteers have been working hard both independently and as part of small teams to bring You Project Educate.
Project Educate is about bringing forward art forms whether they are popular or overlooked and giving
Points Challenge: Be A Hero, Report a Miscat!Points Challenge: Be A Hero, Report a Miscat!3 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Miscats: What are they? Why do they matter? How do they happen?
REMINDER: This challenge is only open until October 31st! Get your comments in by then or miss out on points!
A "miscat" is a deviation that has been submitted to the wrong gallery, or mis-categorized, on deviantART. For example, literature does not belong in the photography gallery, even if there is a photograph supplied as a preview picture for the writing.
They matter for several reasons. Miscats make searching for specific types of deviations tedious, particularly if you are looking for newer submissions. A search of the Writing Tutorials gallery for popular deviations in the last 24 hours brought up four deviations, all miscats. Miscats also make the site disorganized and even harder to navigate for new comers. Lastly, they make your work harder to reach by taking up space in the wrong gallery.
I'm sure others can think of reasons why miscats are annoying, and I invite you to leav

You have all been featured as a honourable mention... at least! Because of course, only one of you can be the winner. :iconwooooplz:
Actually, just kidding! I have picked TWO deviants who will both receive the full prize set. And here they are!
When it comes to the pure comment count, one person has proven to be truly invincible, leaving her run
The Neglected Importance of the Online CommunityWhat is the Worldwide Online Community? The Neglected Importance of the Online Community4 years ago in Art Features More Like This
The Worldwide Online Community is simply a group of people from a wide variety of countries and continents who come together to share their skills, experience, and/or love for a subject. Online communities are a fairly new faction and are not fully understood, their importance is neglected and may not reach their full potential until the next generation incorporates them more and more. It wasn't until the '90s that the Internet or World Wide Web really became a part of the culture, but in less then 20 years its impact has changed society from top to bottom.
In order to really delve into the importance of the worldwide online community, one must first define what it is. There are hundreds of different definitions of what an online community is, but this statement is generally accepted throughout these definitions.
Worldwide online communities are groups of people who join together on the Internet with a common int

1. Miscellaneous vs Other
Over the past few months, we've been diligently working on cleaning up the category tree of old and unused categories. While most of this will go unnoticed by the community, what you will notice is the change from "Miscellaneous" galleries to "Other". The reason for this change is simple. The concept of Miscellaneous leads one to believe that it's a junk drawer category for everything under the sun when the intention was to be an "Other" category for deviations that don't fit well in other sub-categories of the tree. We're also working on u

PE: Finding Critique on dAWhere to find Critique on deviantART?PE: Finding Critique on dA4 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
So, you just uploaded your latest image/writing onto deviantART and featured it in your gallery with a slight satisfaction you have achieved something. Fantastic, that is step one and now you can sit back and watch everyone's responses come pouring in and showing you everything you need to do to make your work even more fabulous.
The fact is; getting someone to critique your work isn't as easy as that. If you want critique, you need to seek critique and put in the good effort to get it. It won't always work, no plan is fool proof, but here are some places and advice that could help you find the feedback you desire. Not every place on this list will be your cup of tea, but try and see what works for you.
Step one: Make sure people know you want a critique!
If you are a subscriber, make use of the critique function that deviantART provides. You can do this my selecting "Request Critiques" when submitting an

Within the mighty village of dAmn, a war is brewing -- a war to appease the Great Fella God!
Many in the past have sought ways to please this angry beast, and many have failed. These tales of great battle and loss are still whispered around the campfires of #devart: DaPineapple's valiant attempts to offer kingmancheng as a virgin sacrifice, or fourteenthstar's struggles to serenade Fella with her dulcet Scottish tones .. but nothing could be found to please the Great Fella God, not even a scantily clad fritsenator.
But now the tides are turning and the war is changing!
The mighty warrior Tachy-on along with the valiant troops of Community Volunteers have found a way to please Fella, and now the tribes of dAmn are competing for Fella's blessing -- and so can you!
You can help gain favor to you and your tribe by luring and trapping deviants into the great village of dAmn -- but that is not enough to please the Great Fe

Daily Deviation Suggestion Drive!Back By Popular Demand!Daily Deviation Suggestion Drive!3 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
In January of 2012, the community was challenged by thorns to do something about their complaints on dA. Thus was born this very group! But before the group, it was just a fledgling idea on LiliWrites's account that began with a DD Suggestion Contest. The results of that contest were overwhelming. And so, under the prodding of quite a few Community Volunteers, we're going to do it again!
UPDATE: Less than 1 week in and we've already got 100 suggested DDs and 2 accepted suggestions!! Keep up the great work guys and gals. Please remember that you need to leave a link to every deviation you suggest in this journa

Daily Deviations UpdateHappy Monday MorningDaily Deviations Update4 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
I started this morning by signing something "Moonbam13" so either this typo means I need more coffee, or this week is going to be BAMTASTIC!
I'm rooting for the latter
I wanted to post a quick update on changes to Daily Deviations. It is important to note that these changes have not been hard-coded so my team is manually following these new guidelines. This means that errors can and likely will occur until the coding is complete, your patience and understanding is appreciated
The following guideline changes are in effect:
The 3-month rule is now the 6-month rule, meaning that it must be at least 6-months since the last time an artist received a daily deviation. (This was an overwhelmingly popular suggestion from the community and I agree, it's a good one!)
Daily deviation selectors may only select one daily deviation per day maximum. This has been put in place to focus on Quality vs Quantity.
Gaining Exposure To ArtGaining Exposure For Your Own Art:Gaining Exposure To Art4 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Being active on the site is probably the best and most effective way to get yourself and your art seen. Leaving thoughtful comments on others art will often result in them coming to your page to find out more about you and see your art. Being involved and making friends will promt people to focus on you and your art giving you a bit more exposure. Leaving critiques, helping to moderate groups, posting in the forums, or simply chatting it up in the chatrooms. These can all be beneficial in getting you more exposure. Below I'd like to outline some of the wonderful ways, I believe, you can gain extra exposure to your art.
Joining groups which are relevant to your interests and the art which you make can be very helpful in getting your art out there and seen by like minded individuals. The introduction of groups by dA has made it very e

This is a common question from the Community, sometimes phrased as that question, sometimes phrased as a blunt opinion! This article, written for Project Educate - dA Related, aims to shed a light on this topic. And it's not gonna be brief
Because, no one can simply answer this for other people. This journal will not attempt to do that. Instead I have tried to gather a variety of opinions on this subject, so you can read several views and decide for yourself!
Some of the views below were shared with me through note, others in comments to the poll here. Feel free to chip in there too! there's also more responses left to be enjoyed there - I only selected some from the comments there to pick as many
