The Lovely Poem of DisdainThe Lovely Poem of Disdain1 year ago in Free Verse More Like This
My dream is to remain free:
It cannot be, why do you refuse to see?
I desire to be alone, should I have made this known?
I suffer from feelings I've condoned.
Personal curses unwelcome, you bring back some.
Can't you understand the angle I speak from?
No. This doesn't feel right, please hear my plight.
Shadow of doubt flayed with truthful light.
Same song? Same Dance. There was no chance.
All I'm asking for is compliance.
I respect you, but should you respect me too?
Sadly not. This is nothing new...
I help mend, I'm nothing but a friend.
It seems I'm seen as more, perhaps a trend.
Stop the trend, grind it to an end.
Your love is not for me, I have chosen who I want to be.
You may disagree.
But you only prolong your own misery...

In everyone's mind
Familiar to children
Just some grown-ups are blind
It nags and it pushes
Persistence its style
Obnoxious and restless
And yet makes us smile
It comes out at a sudden
In midst of a bore
And throws out a question
Never expected before
Just a minute ago
You could have cared less
But now that you've wondered
You need more than a guess
How would it be
To walk the surface of Mars?
Or fly in a space ship
Right up to the stars?
Could someone walk up
The stairs on their hands?
Do our politicians
Really make plans?
How does a ventriloquist
Talk in his sleep?
Does an average herding dog
Even like sheep?
Why is 'abbreviated'
Such a long word?
Do fish underwater
See everything blurred?
The little spike in your head
It doesn't let go
Keeps asking for answers
You just cannot know
But the question is driving
Stuck down in the dark
You still crave for a light
You get out your old books
Ask whoever's around
Let imagination play

In a breeze of wind
I am the tiny spark
That ignites a blaze
I am the sunlight
Kissing an icy field
I am the twinkling snowflake
Pure and pristine in the golden glow
I am the first green of spring
Shy yet bright and full of life
I am the wispy mist
Melting with the warmth of sunrise
I am the song of the creeks
That whistles in the clear water
I am an old tree in the jungle
High and mighty, a roof to the world below
I am the starry sky
Bathing in silver moonlight
I am infinity
The horizon you will never reach
And yet I am the blade
That cuts through your bonds
I am the wish of thousands
A sanctuary of dreams
I am the power
That drives you forwards
I am the fuel
For your thoughts and longing
I am the goal
That everyone seeks
I am the journey
And I am the reward
I am the helpful hand
You extend to a friend
I am the choice to make
Your every chance and opportunity
I am your open eye
For the world and beyond
I am the force inside
Living in your heart and soul

Why did you hurt her?
The voices scrutinize me.
What a monster you are.
I was meant to protect her.
That’s who I was.
I ask what I did.
Those hands push me.
Those feet kick me.
She was so innocent.
I ask why I did it.
I rake my face with my hands.
My eyes, they burn.
My lips are raspy like the autumn leaves.
Does a heart bleed if you rip it out yourself?
I guess it doesn't.
I turn away.
My clothes washed of their colors.
What am I?
Who have I become?
I sob into my own arms.
Cradled into the night by stars in galaxies far away.
Is this the end?
I expect them to beg me to stay.
I’m here for one reason and one reason only.
To protect my brother.
Why did that nameless face copy my best work and call it their own?
I threw away everything I believed in.
I worked my ass to the bone to be here.
Can’t you respect a little girl and her dreams?
They say I am nothing.
I ask myself what nothing is.
My Little Rainbow Kite soars higher.
I let go of the string.
Deep Cliff #3 Being Social or Being Smart?Deep Cliff #3 Being Social or Being Smart?5 months ago in Editorial More Like This
Question: Why is being better at socializing considered better than being smarter?
Hello, and welcome back to “Deep Cliff,” and today I’m going to be answering a question that I have actually asked through my entire middle and high school career. Now, we’re finally going to find the answer.
The first thing to do when answering this is find out what is meant by “socializing” and “being smarter.” Those who socialize are people who are very good at meeting and talking with other people. Perhaps they are jocks who are sports all stars as people flock to them…or maybe their gifted musicians or cheerleaders? The point is that they are people who can easily talk to and interact with their peers. On the opposite end of the spectrum is those who are “smarter.” This is an inaccurate comparison…perhaps a better word would be “educated.” These are people who dedicate themselves to art, science, mathematics

You're not a small
on long thin legs,
a freak scaring
with its grotesque.
Your coloring is beautiful,
the grateful shining
of the noble metal -
I'd caught you
to look how do you
devour little flies
and the rest
of little insects.
After the one of your
next ample meal
I'd take you on my hands.
Suddenly I'd start to regret
my impudence and stupidity -
the injected venom
would give me the lesson of life.

and NO MATTER WHAT you will still stand there laughing with me.
You're the friend I can get completely mad at,
and then having you stand there with a funny face
completely ignoring the fact that I'm mad at you,
and just burst out laughing.
You're the friend that I can trust with EVERYTHING.
There isn't a thing in the world I would doubt
telling you about because I TRUST you with my WHOLE heart.
You're the friend that has been through ROUGH times with me
and we came out standing STRONG.
You're the friend that I would run to if in trouble.
You're the friend that has ALWAYS tried to help me out.
And well you know what?? You're a person that I
consider my BEST FRIEND.
I FUCKING LOVE YOU!!!!!

every moment behind,
a look over the shoulder assures I am alone
Drifting, feeling my way home,
there were no shallow words between us
and the parting never hit,
but this moment,
where I know there is no one in this wood,
no welcome whisper,
no weary traveler,
no breath but the earth beneath me,
this is when I shudder and remember the bones I walk upon
this is when I cry and mourn the thought of you

Alone I am.
Only the shadows of the dark are my friends.
Nothing is there for me into the darkness.
All my friends have abandoned me.
I can't see the light of the day.
My soul is exiled into darkness.
My dreams are no more.
The only thing left for me is desperation.
Nothing can save me now.
I have no longer the passion to live.
My body has reached its limit.
I can't take it anymore.
I give up.
I have no purpose to live.
All is lost for me.
This will be my end.
One last breath and a shot in the head!
My life flashes in a moment of end.
But then you reached for me.
You gave me light of hope.
I never thought I could be saved.
But you showed me love and compassion.
You taught me how to live again.
To love and then again to be free!
You gave me hope.
Gave me new life!
And a new start!
You tolled me "Past could be forgotten"!
Every day is a new day.
Day of unknown history!
And this history will one day turn into an amazing past memory.
This is a new start for me.

Luckily, my truck with the children inside was still idling when the Caprice Classic rolled into view and parked directly between the brick gate posts that marked the entrance to our drive. Although I had never seen this particular vehicle before, I knew its type; the type my husband drove. This car had "Stevenson" written all over it from the spider webbed windshield to the dented fender and the foot wide blaze of rust down the hood. From the way it continued to rattle even after it had ceased moving, I could imagine my brother-in-laws maze of bailing wire holding it all together. The smell of engine oil hanging around the blue jalopy brought to mind the brother's old shop, a shrine to automotive carnage and their dearly departed father. Nearly every night for ten years, I had watched the two shadowed figures bending over one or another of a dozen vintage wrecks, breathing life into the dead or dying carcasse

Weep all of heaven's tears,
Act like it never was.
Open are my arms,
Waiting for your touch.
Craving shall disappear,
Along with my sadness.
But do I really,
Want to stop wanting you?
Fish in the sea,
Darling if you want the best one,
For you, look no further than me.
Wrapped up in my own,
How could you do this to someone,
Who always brought you back on your feet?
Life it seemed,
Was just you and I,
And now I'll have to live,
Without flying through the sky.
Looking out for the next possibility,
But it hurts too much that none of them will be you.
Was I not enough,
To make you smile?
Was I not enough,
To stay with for a while?
You took me and tore me,
To the smallest of pieces,
The future so broken,
All because of your love leases.

Nosso Senhor por aqui passa,
Trazendo-nos sua benção,
Iluminando nosso caminho,
Aquecendo nossos corações,
Trazendo alegria para nossas casas,
Para nossos jardins,
Para nossas crianças,
Nosso Senhor por aqui passa.
Seu reino é extenso,
Até onde nossos olhos podem ver,
No horizonte mescla-se com o nosso,
Quando o Senhor está afastado,
Seu reino fica pálido,
Quando o Senhor está próximo,
Seu reino fortalece,
Seu reino é extenso.
Muitos fieis nosso Senhor possui,

Always there but sometimes unseen, it always leaves it mark.
Helping me though with it's gentle light,
Maybe my dreams won't be so bad tonight.
In the clouds, hiding it's face,
It always keeps me in a safe place.
Once a month, looking so full,
So glossy, never dull.
Praises and sacrifices sometimes go to you,
I guess it's just something to do.
So vibrant, and so bright,
Yet you only come out at night.
Oh? You have to leave so soon?
Sometimes I wonder what's on the dark side of the moon.

of sheets atop my bed
lays a vicious monster
then those crimson eyes
shining in the darkness
between your shirts
in the confines of your closet.
An evil being, dipped
into a boiling vat
of bitter dark chocolate
and coated in a mound
of near black fur
equipped with a snarl
and monstrous fangs.
She runs through the house
with that glint in her eyes
knocking over chairs
and leaping on couches
digging her claws
into the flesh
of our visitors.
At the end of the day
she'll have worn herself out
and she'll lay down on my bed
with that innocent face
where she'll fall asleep
and that cycle of destruction
will begin again in the morning.

than to cage me up and clip my wings,

Merely muttering melodies,
I will climb the roof and let the wind
blow through my hair, and let it teach me
how to fly;
And storms will come to take my wings
and further from home, I will be,
whistling an elegy,
singing for the need for rain:
carve beauty into sunlight's veins,
an unfound rainbow yet to come.

It wasn't for many years that I realized that the extreme power I had used to propel that rock into the air was yet a fraction of my power. I had just used a lot on a small task, increasing the efficiency of the spell a thousand fold, and thus launching it into the sky, never to be seen again, at least by my eyes. Who knows, maybe it had come down on some unsuspecting farmer somewhere, and killed him. I will never know. But as I progressed through the schools of magic, I found that I was special, having not just skill to tap myself, but the talent to use it. I was not the only one of the seven who boasted magical prowess by far but I grasped the wide and varied usage of my own power, turned to magic, much faster then any of the others. It earned me their admiration, and more than once, I found myself coaching a couple of them out of hours. I didn't mind, really. It was a pleasant change. I was in control. I was the best. But like everything good, it didn't last

Wide whites shifting and sailing
Across deep happy blues
Will arch and stretch
To welcome the horizon
There are ripples and waves
Across the water's solid face
Awoken by light carried breezes
Aimless yet searching
Washed away stones
Small and slender
Will rest and sleep
Among willows' shade
With blue-stained warblers
And passioned robins
Weaving through willows
And following the wind
A whisper to the noon sky
A cry, a shout
This is eternity

In a listless windfall
The nomadic winds
Soothing and placid
Traveling my features
Rock me to sleep
3. (On Waking)
Shade blanketing meadow's grasp
My eyes and straight gaze now immune
Receding water and imploring eyes
Matched with soft night calls
Staring right through walking wind
Shingled moonlight waving
And knocking and waiting
On the lapping waves
Floating pieces of shed autumn
Lifting and shaking
On grated moonlight
A whisper to the night sky
A cry, a shout
