ImbolcImbolc10 months ago in Personal More Like This
Also known as Candlemas, Imbolc originated as a Gaelic festival that celebrated the beginning of Spring. The world "imbolc" means "in milk" and during ancient times, lactating ewes represented one of the first signs of spring. Imbolc is also referred to as "Brigid's Day" in honor of the Celtic Goddess of Fertility. All celebrations are focused on rebirth and the banishing of the Winter season. For many it represents the change to come, both personal and within the world.
All the land is wrapped in winter.
The air is chilled and
Frost envelopes the Earth.
But Lord of the Sun,
Horned One of animals and wild places,
Unseen you have been reborn (The White Goddess Book of Shadows)
How do you plan to welcome Spring?

Psychology meaning of doodles/drawings.*Disclaimer* not my own written work just a collection of notes from many sources.* Last Edit: 8/23/2014Psychology meaning of doodles/drawings.5 years ago in Personal More Like This
Many of us doodle and you may not realize it but doodles will actually tell you a lot about your personality and mood. The size, position as well as what the object(s) of focus of will lead you to some key clues. There are many different shapes, designs and colors of doodles, just as there are different dream scenarios, but there are some that are quite common and, as such, more easily interpreted.
Size and Placement
Large doodles that take most of your page, you are likely to be attracted to nature. Moreover, you might also have a reserved personality, but would want to socialize.
Small doodles on a corner of the paper suggest that the person is neat and organized in his/her ways. Because the drawing is placed on a side of the page, it shows that a person does not like wastage and prefers everything in its

A full 22 hours later than Fedex guaranteed delivery - I've got shiny new paint!
Okay, so the Cremnitz white is exciting because you can't find that in Canada, but the other tubes are the really interesting ones, for me at least. The Fragonard pink is blended with both gum arabic and honey, which sounds like good times but I don't know why it sounds so good; the Golden QoR viridian is a brand I've been dying to try, but couldn't locate in Canada - allegedly they are as vibrant as oils or acrylics, and SRaffa spoke highly of their other lines, so I figured "why not"; and that Holbein Chinese vermillion? Actual vermillion. Like, the one that gets redder the longer you grind it, vermillion. The real winners though are those Maimeri D'Italia oils. They're legit samples of soil from Italy that are bound in ... whatever it is they mix wit

Golden Age of IllustrationArt History WeekGolden Age of Illustration1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
The 19th century marks a huge technology development, with printing techniques improving enough to make newspapers and books a truly mass-popular medium. Along with that, there appeared new opportunities for the illustrators. In the second half of the 19th century, the popularity of illustrated books and magazines reached the highest level recorded by that time and it eventually became the foundation to border the official beginning of the Golden Age of Illustration's timespan: 1880's. Formally it lasted until 1910's-1920's, with variations between Europe and North America.
The core illustrators lived a long time after this period and continued creating pictures in their style - which is defined as typical for the Golden Age. However, new styles and the slow decrease of popularity of book and newspaper illustrations (supported by the rising popularity of photography) after the World War determined the formal end of this age. The European illustrators were influenced mo

More Artists Needed for the Endless Doodle!Hi there, all!More Artists Needed for the Endless Doodle!5 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
The Endless Doodle needs more Doodlers take over the progression! New and old members, are you ready? In a nutshell, the Doodle is a morphing left-to-right, multi-part, collaborative drawing project, and it's all Swirly! Read below, step up and bring in your shapes! (Tell your friends, too!)
I would really like people that haven't had the chance to draw yet to come up and join the Doodle! That way we'll have the chance to line up many unique styles.
However, to appease the few that have been eager for a second round like kids lining up at an amusement park, second-timers are also welcome! Just as long your first piece has been succeeded by at least four other entries.
I had some difficulty in contacting people that were queuing up, so I regularly clear up people from the waiting list. If you're still interested, step up!
The first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth, elevent
