Hello! It's time for November's monthly challenge here at The Art of Manipulation (now in collaboration with Manip-Contest! If you're new, the idea is that each month you all vote on a manipulation topic you want to hear about; then we write an educational journal here about the subject and host a challenge for you, hopefully teaching you something in the process. Got it? Good.
Our educational article, written by missalmostperfect
1. WHAT IS MASKING?
Masking is „cutting“ out several pieces of your stock images without deleting them, so you are able to use them later on if you need to correct (very important)
2. WHY DO I NEED MASKS?
By using masks you are able to make your photomanipulation more advanced and clean, because no one wants ugly edges and missing sections in their images. You can use masks to quickly blend in one image into a

Top 10 reasons why Photomanipulation rocks.Hi everyone,Top 10 reasons why Photomanipulation rocks.1 year ago in Personal More Like This
So, I was talking with a friend this morning, and she asked me, "Why do you love photomanipulation so much? You're a good photographer."
My first response was, "Uh, no, I'm not." But her question made me think. For me, I do love photomanipulation itself, but it's more about the community. I came to dA to become a better artist. But I stayed because of the people.
Here are ten reasons why I fell in love with this community. (They are really in no particular order except for #1.)
10. Our medium is accessible to everyone.
You don't have to be a great painter or photographer to learn photomanipulation (though, like anything else, it does help). It takes time and practice, and there are a lot of tutorials out there to help you learn. You can do it. There are a lot of artists out there who make amazing photomanipulations but who cannot paint very well. It is fairly easy to learn, but it takes a LOT of work to become proficient.
Activities/Contest/FeaturesHi guys,Activities/Contest/Features2 years ago in Personal More Like This
We are hard at work to make this group beter and stronger every day. You guys might not know it, but believe me we have alot of brainstorming going on. So I come to you bearing good news.
So how this is going to work is we are going to post a poll on certain things you can do with manips. Like lighting or blending or coloring, etc. You guys vote and the we then put a blog together of the winner. The blog will include things like links to tutorials, mini interviews with expert artists, etc. We will also provide you with some stock pictures we think fits the challenge. You MUST use atleast one of these stock pictures and make a manipulation based on what you learned from the blog. THe winner will only get features, this is not a contest. It is just a platform you can use to hone your skills as a manipulator.
The rules for this contest must will be;
Two or more artist MUST colloborate on an entry.

Challenge: The Art of Blending **Updated Links**Hi thereChallenge: The Art of Blending **Updated Links**2 years ago in Personal More Like This
It's time for our monthly challenge! Congratulations again to :iconsatorirose:, the winner of our August challenge on lighting!
The topic for this month's challenge is blending. We're a bit behind on posting this challenge because I was trying to find someone more experienced than myself to write about it for you all. Unfortunately I wasn't able to do so, I guess you're stuck with me
Want to show your appreciation for our group? Help by contributing towards our SuperGroup renewal!
The Art of Blending
What exactly do we mean by "blending"? Well, the most basic answer to this question is that blending is when you combine two or more photos into a new work and tinker with various settings/techniques to create one cohesive, flowing image. As always, this is easier said than done.

Revised Rules for Using My StockThis account is for collaborations with digital and traditional-media artists. I don't know yet exactly what's going to come out of it, but I submit stock under the assumption that any artists who use my stock are happy to be a part of my project.Revised Rules for Using My Stock2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I will contact you before doing anything with your work, you will be given thorough credit in any use of your work, and you have the option to refuse to let me use your work. But that goes both ways: I would prefer you not to use my image if I can't use yours.
So, do what you like with my stock - use it as a reference for paintings and drawings, or as source material for photo-manipulations - but please show me what you've done. Let me know in a note, or a comment.
And if you could please credit my contribution to your work with a link, I would appreciate that too.

Group Leader's and ManipulatorsI see art taking another turn that I'm not to happy with. Groups have created some sort of art snobbery. They are judging by what they like rather than what the group takes. Worse yet friends get special treatment. Most art being created is all about technique and not substance. I tried to figure out why most art was all the same until I saw a poll than it all fell into place for me. I have seen people that have been creating for 5 years get up and go. The skill is great to have but not for every artists, sometimes its just fun to create and share art. Sometimes its about the imagination, the substance of a piece.Group Leader's and Manipulators2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Think before you criticize!
So yeah, thats NOT why I am here. I think I am getting sick, just slept 16 hours and I'm bored so I decided to make a list. A little here and a little there and tried to pull it all together for you. Here is a list that I spent all day confirming that the site allows you to use their images.
PLEASE don't take my word but I found nothing to the c
Stock and Resources: Policy ClarificationThe Stock and Resources community is an integral part of deviantART, both for having an active community of its own as well as providing high quality stock to all deviants.Stock and Resources: Policy Clarification2 years ago in DeviantART Announcements More Like This
As this community has grown so much over the years, so has the amount of invalid stock and resources that have been provided by some deviants. The Stock and Resources community feels like this reflects negatively on them, the volunteers have a hard time trying to teach people about valid stock and how to use it correctly, and it gives an appearance that deviantART Staff tolerate so-called “art theft” or copyright infringement.
In this article our aim is to reinforce our policies regarding stock and stock use and clear up some misconceptions.

Modeling: Do's and Dont'sPeople & Portrait PhotographyModeling: Do's and Dont's4 months ago in Art Features More Like This
Here's a short piece on the do's and dont's of modeling, or rather some basic tips on how to model to the best of your abilities, and make the best out of your shootings. This advice is coming from the perspective of a portrait photographer, who has dealt closely with models of all types (amateur, professional), and who has seen the good and the bad.
DO: Look at yourself in a mirror, study your features, try different expressions, model poses for yourself. As silly as it may seem, it helps. It helps for you to see what you look like, what works for your face and body, and what does not. Practicing in front of the camera is great, but you don't need to necessarily be in a shoot to practice. A lot can be done beforehand with simple things like this.
DO: Take care of your body as well as you can. And by this I do not mean, go on crazy diets or anything of the sort. But eat healthy, take care of your skin, your nails,

PhotoManipulation: Lighting TechniquesVISUAL TRICKERYPhotoManipulation: Lighting Techniques4 years ago in Art Features More Like This
One of the great joys of PhotoManipulation is the act of using photographic images and hand-painted elements to fabricate realities. What makes this new art-form so potent is the fact that you can create a sense of realism that in my opinion cant really be matched by other mediums. To attain the level where you can articulate your ideas into photorealistic realities takes a fair amount of practice, but fortunately there are many resources that can assist you get there much much faster than trial and error alone.
When I really started to focus on lighting in my work, the quality of my pieces made a monumental jump. I dont profess to be a lighting expert, this article collates useful information and resources that have helped me in my progression, and can hopefully help you as well. This article is going to be very 'wordy' and may be more appealing to the intermediate / advanced user; however, I would recommend practitioners of all levels to check out the
