Giving ThanksWe sang our promises to each other
As you drove towards the bazaar,
Old-new music turning the air sharp and crisp
As the fiery trees that flew by.
Then we walked a little later
Through still-green fields and tire hills,
Speaking of springtime blossoms
As a wintery wind nipped at our hands.
Sitting on what felt like a grassy observation platform,
We ignored the phantom stares of others
And found ourselves in each other
As a summertime sun beat against us.
This new world of ours
Can and will survive the seasons,
For now we two cannot be separated,
Filled to bursting with love and hope.
Take It All AwayYou want to take it all away,Take It All Away3 years ago in Free Verse More Like This
Every trace of the body that is not yours.
You are trapped inside a prison of mistaken identity,
Wanting nothing more than to break free and be seen as your true self.
This is not a crime, but some deem it so.
They want to take it all away:
Your hopes, your dreams, your triumphs,
Your life itself - all in the name of blind, obstinate hatred.
They will not understand, trying instead to destroy you.
This is a crime. We deem it so.
We want to take it all away,
All your pain, all your stifled suffering,
To shelter you from the storms that rage within and without,
And make for you a world where you are free;
Where hate is a vanquished crime.

I know you want laced ribs,
I know you're afraid
to look down, so look up.
My fingers are still holding on.
I will sell my words
if I have to make it happen
and when it does
we'll find you pretty clothes.
You are my woman
and I can see you.
I love you and I'm terrified.
The Four SeasonsYou are familiar, I trust, with the four seasons: Summer, Autumn, Winter, and Spring. Long ago, before the dawn of man, there existed only two seasons: Summer and Winter. Winter's castle lay to the north, and Summer's castle to the south. One day, a grand celebration was to be held in the palace of Mother Earth herself. Summer and Winter were, of course, invited, but both kingdoms could only send their daughters. And so it became that Aiyana, the Daughter of Summer, and Kateri, the Daughter of Winter, were to attend the banquet together, setting the stage for our story. The Four Seasons5 years ago in General Fiction More Like This
"What on Earth is that thing on your head?"
Aiyana looked down from her perch upon a tree branch, her bright green eyes spotting the form of the speaker below. In one fluid movement, she hoisted herself off of the branch, landing gracefully on the ground in front of her best friend, Kateri.
"If you must know, it is my crown for this evening," she stated in a snooty tone, sticking her tanned nose in the air and tossing h

It's always the innocent,
Never the guilty.
That thing in the distance,
No one could ever quite see.
Well, how would you feel, what would you do,
If that poor complicated kid was you?
Could you deal?
Would it be real?
Could you shrug it off without a say?
Would you be the one being remembered today?
This is for all of the heartbroken people
Who we will always try to never forget.
Those people who should've been treated as equal.
We haven't forgotten them, not yet.
The girl who was really a boy,
The boy who was really a girl.
Those people are really there,
If there was one thing we could all share,
It should be the love we all have for one another.
We have made mistakes,
Those ones that have caused many heartbreak,
Never forget those people that glowed so bright,
because now it's the candles for them we light.
Let's not make push come to shove,
And hope we learn
To simply love.

We're back to this, are we?
I scowl down at you,
Poking you obtrusively with stiff fingers.
The way you bulge, pooch, flop
Makes my skin crawl with something nearing revulsion.
Really, it's a testament to my own laziness
That my first thought, time and time again
Is not to exercise more,
But to eat less.
Even then, I never go through with it.
My darkly nebulous thoughts
Are pierced by a ray of light -
Or a collection of memories,
Of her assuaging my fears:
Her, making me feel beautiful,
Slowly, the liquid poison of my self-loathing
Evaporates in her sunlight.
A lesson, long in coming, has been learned today:
I may not always be able to remember the reasons why she loves me,
But I will never forget that she does.

Do I hurt you?
Does your God hate me?
Do I scare you?
Does your self image suffer?
Is it anger?
Do I harm anyone?
Does your family suffer ?
Do I promote hatred?
Does it really matter?
Why do you hate me?
Why do you fear me?
Why do you hurt me?
Why must I die?
To make you feel better about yourself?
