Confessions - Learn from MeOkay, I'll be trying to make this simple. To explain the latest journal, and to share an experience that might help others that are in the same boat as me.Confessions - Learn from Me1 year ago in Personal More Like This
First things first: The original problem.
Ever since age 10-11 i've developed a very abstract way to see things. I've started thinking more and more how it would've been, If I could control the world. If I could be anything.
Create my worlds, live my worlds, die many times but keep the experiences before.
Rebirthing myself in another body with the experience I have now: I would be great. Phenomenal. I could fix my past mistakes.
And be so much more. Live so much more. Without fearing consequences. The world itself would be my playground.
It has fascinated me since, greatly. ( Monochrome is the artistic embodiment of this abstract emotion and thought.)
It has also been the fuel to my (soon to be developed) depression and suicidal thoughts.
I hate not having control. I hate having to feel bad, when I thought that by dying I would esca

I know! I've been away from DA and other online source due to that I've took care of my real life completely, I've been absent from art and I will try to reply most of notes on dA... but firstly, let me share with my happiest news that I bear with me. As a following update about Dingo's situation. I know, some of you may think by that time he could be on the rainbow bridge... he really could be gone, I could be utmostly depressed and even wouldn't be able to continue my health therapies. Who knows! But life really can surprise us...
As you see, he is still with us. I've been enjoying every single day with him!
Do you remember my last journal update about our Dingo? On that day when I updated, whil
Common Misconceptions: Traditional ArtFirst of all, hello! It's been almost a year since I contributed a blog post to this lovely group so I want to say hi I'm back folks! I have a lot of artsy things to share with you all that I've learned (and am still learning) so hang on tight! While I was thinking what to write as my first topic, I decided to kind of go back to the beginning as far as our thinking as artists goes in the creation process. I've come up with a short series called "Common Misconceptions" just to debunk some myths and misguided trends that are so often part of what we experience as we grow. This first "Common Misconceptions" topic will focus on traditional art.Common Misconceptions: Traditional Art1 year ago in Personal More Like This

Before you throw that pity party read thisBeing in touch with your weaknesses is important in order to grow as an artist, but are you so hung up on what you can’t do well that it’s holding you back? I'm not talking about the intermittent (or frequent) attacks of complete blockage, or even lack of inspiration, but full out pity parties. Before you throw that pity party read this1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I’ve seen far too many people on dA who post exercise after exercise, writing in the artist comments that once again they’ve failed, they’ve read hundreds of books, studied the masters for so many years, and they still cannot draw a photorealist rending of a man’s head. First of all let me say that I highly respect “self taught” artists and I’m not discouraging anyone who chooses (or must) go that route. However, setting realistic goals and finding your niche is extremely important. Let me say this: not everyone will be able to paint like a Baroque period artist! But that doesn't mean you can't be a painter, it just means
Developing Artists FAQHey everyone, just wanted to make a new journal about some stuff that's goin on in my head, and to those who care feel free to read.Developing Artists FAQ2 years ago in Personal More Like This
So I've just graduated with a BA in the Arts (WOW SOOOOO HARDCORE) in late April. Aside from handling small freelance and commission stuff between my spare time, I also started working full time at a local mobile game studio as a concept artist and animator.
Now thinking back on my journey so far, I've met a lot of obstacles and obviously overcame many of them, and the ones I didn't overcome I keep on trying. For the longest time, while being in this online art community filled with countless talents of various degrees, I have sought knowledge amongst the community here, and in turn people have also came asking for knowledge in return. While I specialize in the entertainment industry as a visual production and sometimes pre-production artist, there have been many learning curves that I had to tackle by myself, because lets face it, if school wa

I have just recently received the opportunity to become the "Science Fiction and Space Art" Community Volunteer Gallery Moderator here on deviantART.
I am looking for "Science Fiction and Space Art" deviations to feature as Daily Deviations, and you can help.
If you know of any submissions that you think should gain more exposure and be Featured as a Daily Deviation,
and they are "Science Fiction and/or Space Art"related, send me a DD Suggestion via note.
I have info on my front page regarding how to suggest a DD if you have any questions.
I would prefer suggestions for artists that have less exposure and little to no previous DD's,
but I am not against awarding a Daily Deviation to worthy art from a more well known and decorated artist.
I simply want to try to focus on putting a spotlight on lesser known artists that have amazing art to share, so that their work ma

I've also listed the wine charms up on my site. They'd be great for the upcoming holidays.

I'd also be willing to take these as commissions if you have a certain theme in mind.
OCT 101 (2012) EDITDisclaimer: this is not a personal attack against any OCT's, oct admins, or conduct of oct admin teams in general. These are observations, thoughts, and tips that I felt should be taken into consideration when one decides they want to run an OCT in hopes that it makes things a little easier for people.OCT 101 (2012) EDIT1 year ago in Personal More Like This
FURTHER DISCLAIMER: every oct is different, someone doing things differently from the norm is not bad. These are all merely tools and guidelines meant to help. I've heard a lot about personal attacks being made using both my posts about OCT's as a way of bullying and pushing around the admins of other Tournament groups, and I do not condone it in the slightest. I'd like to apologize for anyone that has had that done to them.
For those who need more information!
"What is an OCT? An OCT, or 'original comic tournament'/'original character tournament' is a sort of contest in which an artist enters a character.
That character is paired off against another artist's charact
The Ten Percent RuleIf you are working on a completely shaded drawing, or a finished art work, you may wish to follow the the ten per cent rule, which runs as follows: Make roughly ten per cent of your shaded areas black or near-black, and roughly ten percent white or near-white, with the rest of the artwork composed of a range of middle tones. This rule follows my deeper art philosophy that "beauty is in the middle tone." All areas of tonality must also follow the rule of balanced composition. I'm just formulating this rule now, but it seems that many high quality masterpieces, such as finished oil paintings and the best drawings, follow it to some extent. (not always, but many, I think.) For example, here's a typical masterpiece, a piece of art by Degas: http://penonpointe.files.wordpress.com/2011/09/edgar-degas-the-rehearsal.jpg I think you can very clearly see the ten per cent rule in effect here. The Ten Percent Rule1 year ago in Personal More Like This
The challenge is to my self (isn't it always?) to follow the rule and apply it to my best fully shaded ar

well this is a first, didn't think I'd ever do a contest.
this contest will be design a trainer for the Odd Ones nuzlocke universe. Odd Ones is my nuzlocke comic which you can see here:
Reason for this contest (skippable, but can help in your entry knowing the reason this contest was whipped up)
In Odd Ones, Eric won't be the only one gunning for the Elite 4 and collecting badges, I plan on having other trainers going after the same goal, and they'll end up competing with Eric and each other or helping each other out at times depending on the circumstances. The best similarity to what I have in mind are the 11 supernovas in One piece, wide range of character never really met but after same goal and all went through a lot.
I plan on having 5 major trainers including Eric as the Super High Fives, a league of infamous trainers fennel is most worried about and places bountie

ROUND ONE [edit: about the settings]ROUND ONE [edit: about the settings]2 years ago in Personal More Like This
(Be sure to check the flash!)
ROUND ONE OF SIXFOLD LEAGUE NOW COMMENCES
This round will be treated like a qualifier. We want you to show us what you can do, but don't go absolutely all out right at the start! A certain number of contestants (depending on how many participate in this round) will move on to Round Two.
In this round, your contestants will be having a ONE ON ONE BATTLE WITH YOUR FACTION'S ASSISTANT. You must show your character winning for your character to advance. Though the definition of "winning" is up to you! As long as it's clear (a draw would also be considered a victory). No switching Pokemon mid battle. You must pick one Pokemon and stick to it throughout the whole battle*.
*Note on the turn-based style fighting: it is like the games, but not exactly. Basically it just means taking turns, but you are more than welcome to mix it up as well. We won't penalize you for it.

If you don't accept criticism, you won't improveThis statement is, to be blunt, incredibly stupid. I see it repeated around DevianART and, as bad as it is hearing it from the general public, I have to laugh uproarously when I see it coming from an artist. I usually try to be more diplomatic, but sometimes my inner Snape just can't be contained. If you don't accept criticism, you won't improve2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Here is the reality of the situation. A person who is building a set of skills can improve without feedback of any kind. Through trial and error, a human being can identify their own mistakes and, with honest work, rectify those mistakes. To say that this is not possible is so counter to reality as to be absurd. I could give thousands of examples but I'll just say this: if it were not for an individual's ability to invent skills from within themselves we would have absolutely no skills to pass on to other people.
Is this a good reason to reject any kind of negative criticism or criticism in general? Does this mean that criticism is useless? Absolutely not. This

Special Announcement!"Greetings, Contestants of the Sixfold League and residents of the Saros Region! I am an executive of Mirage Inc., and I've been informed to give you all this.Special Announcement!1 year ago in Personal More Like This
You received a Mirage Ball!
For contestants, as recognition of your hard work in the round! Even if you didn't pass the round, you are still entitled to this item.
What does it mean? Well, you can now add another Pokemon to your team. Time to rhyme it seems! All right, all right, now let me elaborate a little.
Firstly, only those who finished round one are allowed this, as they are allowed to get up to six Pokemon on their team now. (The exception being if your NPC already has less than three Pokemon--in which case they may get another!) This is, as I stated above, reward for your hard work! Therefore you must have sent us your entry in a note, and it was judged. Now, unfortunately this means you're out of the tournament and now an NPC. So, does that mean you have to change your a
