APH Fanfic: The Longest Night- EnglandxReader"Would you like some more tea, dear?"
"Oh, yes please."
Arthur rose from his armchair, collected your cup, and shuffled tiredly to the kitchen. You placed the sock you were darning in your lap and turned your gaze up to watch him.
Arthur Kirkland was not a large man. His most defining features were his messy blond hair, his bright green eyes, and his preposterously thick eyebrows. Beyond that he was unremarkable, except there was a quiet strength about him. A certainty of self and purpose that seemed timeless. That was probably why you had fallen in love with him. Or perhaps it was the roguish side he had that usually only made its appearance in the bedroom.
You were newlyweds- well, no. You weren't anymore. You'd married almost a year and a half ago now, in the summer of 1939. Back when there'd been hope. Or at least optimism. But, as long as you were with Arth

Arthur, who was seated at your little table, skeptically raised one of his impressive eyebrows over the top of the newspaper. "What on earth makes you think I would know where it is?"
You sighed impatiently. "Turning into a cat doesn't make you invisible, you know," you told him.
Arthur frowned, his eyebrows drawing together in irritation. "What're you talking about, -name-?"
Starting to feel irritated yourself you put a hand on your hip and raised an eyebrow of your own. "Two words: cat hair."
Arthur suddenly blushed a brilliant shade of pink. "I believe it's under your bed," he replied, before very purposefully hiding behind the paper.

The main conflict in this story was about Nate searching for his long lost childhood friend named Glory. You just bought the book out of complete curiosity, but you were unaware at how addicting and wonderful the book turned out to be.

Missed You Madly- England/ReaderArthur let a small sigh expell from between his bitten lips, sinking further into the yeilding confines of the sofa. Between ink-stained fingers he cradled an ancient book, one from a time he couldn't recall (though he doubted he'd actually want to, in retrospect). He let his pale hands ghost over the yellowed pages and faded words, drinking them in with his darkened eyes and savouring the warm evening light flooding through the window. It was fragrant and sultry, the windows thrown wide open and allowing the perfumed aroma of roses to filter through into the cozy sitting-room. The entire expanse seemed to glow gold and shades of amber, radient light spilling across the scratched leather sofa and surfaces like molten gold. The sky was littered with a few wisps of clouds, the rest like a water-colour painting in it's entirety as yellow faded to dusky pink and then to saffron orange. With a sigh you pulled your umbrella out of your bag and opened it, stepping out into the downpour outside your office. You were glad for the rain boots you got for Christmas as you sloshed through puddles and tried to avoid the other people scurrying by on the sidewalk. A stiff breeze came up and you snuggled further into your scarf. A rainy London day in January it was definitely not your favorite time of year.
You were paused on a street corner on your way to the Underground in order to wait for the streetlight to change when you saw movement out of the corner of your eye. "The beach! The beach!" Your two year old daughter chanted as she hopped up and down beside you.
"You're right, Alice, that's the beach," you smiled down at her excited face and chuckled as her dark green eyes widened adorably. Gosh, she looked just like her father.
"It's so pretty!"
You kneeled down to her level and kissed her on the cheek before tightening up one of her blonde pigtails that drooped from her nap in the car. She turned when you were done and faced you, putting her hands to your cheeks to pull you forward and kiss you on the nose with a "mwah!" You kissed her back on her forehead and readjusted the frilly pink one piece swimsuit she was wearing before gently picking her up, making her squeal in delight.
You looked behind you at your husband, Arthur, who was a few feet away, struggling to carry the multitude of beach supplies: the umbrella, picnic basket, toys, and towels.
"Are you doing alright back there?" You laughed.

You didn't know what happened. One moment you were driving down the highway and the next, you were in the ditch, pain ripping through your body as you sat cramped in a sorry excuse for a vehicle. Moving was not an option, it hurt too much, but your head could shift slightly. It was just enough to take in your surroundings. The dash was crumpled and pinned your legs, the airbag was stained red from where your head used to lay and you could feel an itch at your forehead. Above you, the roof was dented quite thoroughly. Absently you thanked your mother's genes for making you short.
It didn't register though what had really happened. Your mind was working slowly. At a snail's pace, it tried to catch up to what was going on. You heard someone shouting to someone else, the voice getting closer. The driver's door opened and someone touched your neck carefully, taking your pulse. It was a different experience for Arthur, being in the thick of the crowd. When Alfred or Francis even managed to get him into a place like this he usually stuck to the outskirts of the dance floor, he preferred his space out there. Often times he kept to the shadows, standing along the walls. There it was secluded, and quiet (despite the raring music) and he could actually think there. Besides, most of the tables stood alone, away from the crowd, making for an easy escape when he got bored. Tonight, however, was different. He had caught a glimpse of something. Before moving to England to live with your boyfriend Arthur Kirkland, you had loved the rain; however, ever since you had moved, your tolerance for it had grown thin. It seemed as if almost every day was spent inside watching rain pelt your little town just outside of London. You sighed, turning your back to the window.
