Once More Unto the BreachI find myself in Afghanistan again, likely this time for the last time given dwell times, the timeline for withdrawal and voter mood; which is good. I've spent my entire adult life either preparing for, engaging in, or recovering from war. Eleven years ago I was a glory seeking idealistic teenager, off with a jaunty step to defuse bombs, kill bad guys, win medals, and protect my country. Unlike most young men who go off to war though, I did all that I set out to do, I defused bombs, I shot terrorists, I won medals. But over the years I've found this: there is always another bomb and you remember the ones you didn't find and defuse far more than the ones you did. The men I've killed were no more or less 'bad' than I am, I might disagree with their worldview, but they fight for their idea of what is right and good as much as I do. Medals are heavier than I thought, literally and figuratively and there isn't a onOnce More Unto the Breach9 months ago in Personal More Like This
Boilermaker pictures featuredOkay, I told you all about how I went to the Boilermaker Road Race in Utica NY USA on 7-8-12. For those of you that don't know what the Boilermaker is, it is like the second largest 15k road race in the USA and has people from all over the world come here to run in it and there was like 18,000 people in it. This years winner was a man from Ethiopia, the first female to win was also from Ethiopia. There were these 4 women from Canada that were running with the Canadian flag, a couple of guys that were dressed like the Blues Brothers and even a guy that was painted to look like Captain America. Oh and a couple that were dressed in a bride and groom tee shirts and on the back of them said they were being married in 20 days. Well, here are some of the picture I took and posted from that day.Boilermaker pictures featured11 months ago in Personal More Like This![]()

The Aftermath by *cindy1701d :th
I went to the zooI went to the zoo1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I went to the Utica zoo today and was very surprised when I went into the gift shop and found mine and my daughters pictures on magnets and key rings. A few months ago I was talking to the Executive director of the Utica zoo and was telling her I thought they might be able to sell magnets and key rings better if the got ones with there own animals on them. My daughter and I told her that the zoo could use our pictures as long as any money made from the sale when to the zoo and the animals only, no personal profit of anyone. They use a couple of my pictures and a couple of my daughters, so I bought a set of magnets of each of us and bought myself a key ring. I hope they sell good and the zoo can make some money to help the animals with them. It was kind of the bright spot of my day. Something I have not had many of in the past few weeks. I will try and take a picture of them and post it in this journal tomorrow or the next day.

At 1:00 am this morning my heart broke into a million pieces. My boyfriend that lives with me died, and now I am feeling so lost. I wrote in my last journal about him getting sick and going to the hospital last weekend, well this weekend he died. The test showed that he had cancer and must of had it for a very long time. Looking back now I remember him once being really mean to me and I yelled at him and then he told me he had cancer and he started crying (this was like 4 years ago, maybe 6 months after he moved in with me) Well, I started crying too and was really up set and he told
Darren's Ride to Conquer CancerSome of my friends likely know my good friend Darren (dzlr123) :icondzlr123:Darren's Ride to Conquer Cancer1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Darren was my very first friend on dA and he showed me around and was a lot of help. He also did a journal on my work which led to meeting a ton of friends. I really only had 2 or 3 online friends at the time and now, thanks to his help, I have hundreds of friends that I still keep in touch with.
The reason I made this journal is to help Darren spread the word of his new journey.
He and a team mate Rebecca have made a commitment to raise money and awareness toward the "The Peter MacCallum Cancer Center" for the treatment of cancer. (I'm sure we have all be directly impacted by this horrible and deadly disease).
They plan to ride their bikes 200 Km in 2 days and also to raise $3,200 to donate to the cause.
They're both committed to training and doing very well. It will be winter soon in Australia so most training will be done indoors I suspect although they are out biking in full force right no

iLightPaint: The Camera and its MoodsA funny yet informative beginner's guide to photographyiLightPaint: The Camera and its Moods1 year ago in Photography More Like This
Only people can have moods, the camera is so amazing it has all the traits of human beings and their eyes.
Talking about the digital camera (since the everyone is going digital) .
The angle of view depends on the type of lens we attach to the camera and the type of sensor present inside the camera's body.
Generally, our eyes have an angle of view to that of the 50 mm lens on a full-frame body. Full frames are professional grade cameras. Consumer cameras have cropped sensors by a factor of 1.5 to 2, that means they are smaller and the angle of view of the lens is multiplied by that factor. Thus, a 50 mm on a cropped sensor body (DX in Nikon, APS-C 1.6x in Canon) has an angle of view of a lens of 75 mm or 80 mm on a full-frame body. [D-SLR camera bodies]

Prayers For Those Out in Perth-Andover...Today they first called out a volunteer evacuation but it turned into an immediate evacuation of the entire town. Due to flooding some of people lost their homes (a friend of mine came into Tim Horton's and said that her boyfriend's house was destroyed, the first floor was submerged.) Make KONY FamousSometimes things happen in our world that make us wonder. Sometimes new information comes our way that we cannot verify. That is the case with the video that I will present below.Make KONY Famous1 year ago in Personal More Like This
This video is about 30 minutes long and is about is about a person named Joseph KONY. Many of you may not know this man, but if the information presented in the video is accurate, perhaps it is indeed time to make him famous.
According to the information in the video (and other news sources linked below), Joseph KONY has been abducting children into his army in Africa since 1987. Of known war criminals, he is on top of the list. To date, 30,000 children have been abducted and used as soldiers and sexual slaves. They are forced to mutilate and kill. Now, the world has a chance to speak out. The USA has a small force of advisers working with the African countries, trying to catch KONY. Bu
Claim a VICTORY - Trash a DDOn December 27, 2011 dA saw it fit, after 5 years of having a paid membership to give me a DD for this imageClaim a VICTORY - Trash a DD1 year ago in Personal More Like This. Within a few hours I was successful in having it removed from the DD list, and my gallery went back to being quiet. Over the period of another 8 hours of so I was able to have to have it removed from the bottom of my gallery. At this point things are back to normal, and it is as if I had never gotten a DD
Now many of you may wonder why I would take such an extraordinary step as to having a DD removed. The full reasons behind this decision are lengthy and complex, and many of them have been outlined in my journal, so I will not go into extensive detail.
My dissatisfaction with the dA administration began in April 2008. Prior to this time, my work was steadily increasing in popularity here at dA and on the net. From time to time I was able to have a print in the top 25 images for the day.

Voting time for March All information about contests!Voting time for March3 months ago in Contests More Like This
Yes, it is still going on! We are waiting for April submissions!!!
Hereby I would like to invite everyone who desires to vote for the entries of our monthly contests.
How it works:
There is a number assigned to each work. To vote, just write the number of the work you liked in the comments. Your vote will give 1 point for that entry. You can only vote once!. Judges will then add their votes (worth 1/3 of the highest points).
How long it lasts:

Before the World Press Photo price it has first been published like this:
You probably have already read / heard polemics about this case: about how much a photography can be edited, transformed, arranged... and be still a photojournalist shot or become just an artistic work without photojournalist credibility anymore.
What are your feelings about this?
We give you here the possibility to express your opinion.
Thank you
