Not initially taking the threat of "mobile suits" seriously, the Earth Federation Forces are a latecomer during the One Year War when it comes to the development and production of its own mobile suits to counter the Principality of Zeon. Based on combat data from the RX-78-2 Gundam's "learning computer" system and experimental GM-type units such as the RGM-79[E] GM Precession Type, the Federation's first true mass-production unit is simply named the RGM-79 GM. The production-model GM is basically a simplified version of the original Gundam, eliminating some of the more complex and expensive features - such as the Core Block System and using normal titanium alloy armor instead of lunar titanium - to make its production faster and more economical. The GM only carries one beam saber instead of two, and has optional hand armaments of either a 100mm machine gun or a short-range - but highly effective - beam spray gun.

Though the first GM units aren't available until November UC 0079, the Federation's material and manufacturing superiority allows it to quickly catch up, fielding enough units in time to retake contested areas on Earth and to participate in the Federation's Operation Star One offensive on Zeon's space front. With the Federation Forces already on the offensive, the introduction of the GM units to the front lines assures their victory - and descendants of the GM line continue to serve the Federation Forces for at least the next fifteen years.

Another entry in a long line of mobile suits descended from the Earth Federation Forces' first mass production mobile suit, the RGM-79 GM, the RGM-86R GM III is introduced during the First Neo Zeon War in UC 0088. Unlike the RMS-179/RGM-79R GM II, which is only a minor improvement over the original GM, the GM III is a major improvement, incorporating a more powerful reactor, better sensors and armor, and a 37% increase in thruster speed/acceleration (thanks to a backpack design based on the one used on the RX-178 Gundam Mark II). The GM III can also be fitted with a variety of missile launchers, giving the mobile suit a much more flexible mission role as either a close-combat or fire support unit. It was from this basis that the RGM-86RV Semi-Seeker was created, by taking parts RGM-79V GM Night Seeker, and adding them to the GM III's base creating an incredibly high performance machine.

Originally only one unit was produced for use by Federation Ace Pilot Yazan Gable, but a second unit was constructed at the Earth Federation's Torrington Base in Alaska based on that machine's combat data. What the engineers at the Torrington Base found was the GM III's needs couldn't handle the shock created by the harsh falls the Night Seeker parts could place on the frame, so extra shocks and verniers were added to help disperse the impact from high falls. The face shield and para scope used by the original Night Seeker, and Yazan's own modified GM III' were removed, in favor of retaining the GM III's sensors which were viewed as more than adequate. Spare armor plates from the Stark Jegan were also added to the forearms, because of complaints by test pilots over the lack of close range weaponry, and the outdated power output of the beam saber that was standard with the Night Seeker parts. Other changes included adding a shield from the original RX-81 line of mobile suits, along with adding the Beam Launcher of a Hi-Zack Custom which was given an increase it's power output thanks to the GMIII's larger reactor.

The number of changes were so immense that unlike the RGM-179R GM Semi-Striker, it was decided to give the RGM-86R a new designation to reflect the massive amount of changes that were made to final production unit of the machine. Of the Four total units produced all of the RGM-86RV units were destroyed in combat. The original GM III Night-Seeker piloted by Yazan Gable was the only unit to survive, partially because it was not present for the raid on Torrington base that was conducted by The Neo Zeon, Sleeves, and Zeon Remnants. While the Semi-Seeker units were wiped out some of the Data from their development was applied to future variations of the RGM-89 Jegan.

The RGM-122 Javelin, along side the RGM-119 Jamesgun, are the Earth Federation's mainstay mobile suit after the Crossbone conflict.

Introduced sometime after UC 123, the Javelin incorporated some of the latest mobile suit technologies of the time.  It was a smaller MS fitting with the current economical trends, incorporated a high number of verniae/apogee motors, mounted a beam shield emitter on its left arm, and- befitting its name, was equipped with a "Javelin Pack" that used and fired shot lancers that were proven to be extremely effective in the Crossbone conflict.  It was equipped with head vulcans and the standard armament of a beam rifle and two beam sabers.

The Javelin would continue to serve the Federation for well over the next 30 years.  While comparitively outdated compared to the newer units being deployed by the Zanzicare Empire, BESPA, and the League Militare, the stubbornness and tenacity of the Federation pilots kept the suit relevant and relatively effective- in contrast to its "brother" unit, the Jamesgun, which was completely outclassed by its contemporaries.

The Javelin is considered one of the last members of the RGM family, due to the fact that there is so little canonical information of mobile suits used after the Zansicare war.  Its also one of my personal favorite suits.
