1. How can I improve?
One of the most important things to know about improvement is that anatomy is only one of many things you can improve , so if you feel like you haven't improved just try to look at more than just the anatomy and you'll see that you probably improved in shading, colouring, perspective or lining.
I also see a lot of people complaining about not finding ways to study and improve certain things so here's a list of things you can do:
-Stay away from "how to draw..." books! Most of them are badly written and don't actually teach you anything.
- Use references!
-Be open to any kind of critique! Even if somebody just comments "This sucks" go ahead and ask them why and what you can change to make it look better. Or ask people why they like your art to see what your strong points are. And most importantly don't judge the critique by whom it's from.A lot of artist tend to make the mistake not to take any kind of critique from artists with less ex

PE: Fan Art vs Original ArtFan Art vs. Manga & Anime: The differencesPE: Fan Art vs Original Art1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
Many people have come to me in the past with questions regarding whether their work qualified as Manga & Anime or Fan Art, same happened with many Daily Deviations that were placed in the M&A gallery when they should have been submitted to the Fan Art Gallery, oops!
Do you have doubts regarding the submission process? Wonder no more, we'll unveil all the mysteries surrounding the categories! :iconokie2plz:
Fan art includes those artworks that are based on or contain material such as characters, settings, concepts or universes in general that are copyrighted to someone else other than the artist creating said Fan artwork.
Manga and Anime art, on the other hand, is home for all the artworks that artists have created from scratch and are not related to any preexisting universe nor contain any copyrighted material.
Jon Foster: Oil PaintingJon Foster: Oil Painting2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Jon Foster starts an oil painting using his photo reference. Also, he discusses the importance of good research and how to combine several bits and pieces into a working image. Working with traditional oil paints, he gets the painting to a certain level of finish, then produces a high resolution photograph to import into Photoshop. He finishes the painting as a digital image.
Premium Content: Parts I and II
Part 1: Jon starts with his sketchbook for producing quick ideas, and then goes in-depth about the importance of thumbnails, value studies, producing your own reference, and using bits and pieces of found reference for inspiration. Watch as he starts covering his white canvas with an overall tone to produce the beginning of his wet-into-wet image.
Part 2: Continuing the early stages of the image, Jon shows lots of ways to produce marks with paint, using different painting tools. Ha

Six Good Reasons To Not TraceWe here at stop-tracing have heard the excuses. This time, instead of knocking down the arguments that support tracing, I present to you reasons to not trace.Six Good Reasons To Not Trace6 years ago in Art Features More Like This
1. Tracers don't improve.
Tracing is a really really good way to learn how to... um... trace.
Any good art teacher will tell you this- it's simply not a good way to learn. So many professionals, teachers, drawing books, and so on and so forth will tell you one key thing: "draw from life."
It helps. It looks like it's hard, but it does help immensely, and it's not so hard once you train your hand and eye to work together. When you're tracing, you aren't thinking. Your hand and eye aren't really working together. You're just mindlessly going over the lines. You're being a human Xerox machine.
Some people think that tracing helps you "get a feel" for how to draw the human body- this is simply not true

Improving your Manga-styleManga and Anime are a new generation of art, spreading all over the world right now. It is an important aspect of Japanese culture, a solid part of the youth-generation in the US and slowly starts spreading in Europe as well. Even though many people still dont know what Mangas or Animes actually are, most kids already know and they even try to draw this new kind of art themselves. This way the tolerance among adults starts growing as well, a good way to expand the Manga-culture.Improving your Manga-style6 years ago in Art Features More Like This
But as for any kind of art, many people have problems in improving their own style or even finding it. This news-article is directed to any kind of artist that is interested in improving himself/herself.</i>
Ive been asked multiple times how some artists manage to improve very fast and others seem to never improve at all and even though I first thought it has to do with practice I had to admit myself that it does not only depend on mere practice but much more on how you practice and especi

Regarding personal style. To anyone who is obsessively busy trying to find a style unique to them; don't. It seems to have become some sort of trend nowadays on dA, trying to "find a style", when really it is something quite ridiculous to be doing.Regarding personal style.3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
If you compare it to handwriting, it's like worrying about how to make every single letter of the alphabet both beautiful and unique to you when your spelling and grammar leave a lot to be desired, while they are really the most important things to learn first. Sure having a pretty style to look at is nice, just like having a beautiful handwriting. But if all of your other artistic knowledge is falling behind, much like your spelling and grammar, the result will still be unattractive and your art will not reach the viewer in the way that you intended.
So in short, focus on getting better, on gathering knowledge, experience, and practicing, not on finding your own style. Style will happen automatically. Not to mention the fact that if you're a good and experienced eno
PE: Story Planning Week!Greetings everyone and welcome to another fun-packed week at projecteducate! This week has been teamed back up with CRLiterature and will be focussing on story planning!PE: Story Planning Week!1 year ago in Literature Features More Like This
What do we mean by “story planning”?
Planning a story sounds like an easy task- even at primary school level you are taught that a story must have a beginning, a middle and an end. However there are plenty of important elements that build a story; a lot of prep work that can actually improve the quality of your novel writing in the long run. This can cover almost anything- from world building, character development, creating past history and plot mapping etc. There is a huge range of elements that can turn your idea into a strong well-structured novel.
Are you going to tell me how to write a novel?
Not exactly. We can’t tell you how to approach your novel and how to write it from chapter 1 through to the end. We’re not giv

♥ Rules and Information
Due to relatively popular request and out of similarly relative need, I've decided to start something that we'll call Glowchu Feature Month. Not only will this keep us active, but it will also give the Glowchus with little to no attention the attention they need and deserve. It will be treated as a contest of sorts, so hopefully that will get people interested in participating! Occasionally, we'll also have group features where the point will be to draw all the featured Glowchus together in one picture, but for now, we'll stick with one a month.
♥ Draw the featured Glowchu(s)!
♥ There can be other Glowchus/characters involved in the picture, but the focus HAS to be on the featured Glowchu(s).
♥ I have the right to end the contest if we do not get enough participant

how to improve at drawing: a guideSo as I sit and read my comments, I found that alot of people want to know how to improve.how to improve at drawing: a guide1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I'm betting you are tired of hearing people say "practice"?
Well for me, improving is not instant. I may not even notice it, but every time I draw im improving a little.
How to Improve:
Draw all the time, draw everything you see, draw what you want to draw, draw in other peoples styles, draw realistic, draw cartoon, anything. JUST DRAW. Do it all the time. Draw in your notebooks and on your homework.
Do you hate the way you draw eyes? Maybe your paws/hands need more practice? Then find references and use them. I personally don't always find the time to use references, but I find when I do, my art is 10x better. Just practice drawing those eyes you've never gotten quite right. Look at other art and see what you really like about their style. And then try it out.
Now that you've practiced a bit more, draw somethin
Wanna Draw Like a Professional Manga Artist?Wanna Draw Like a Professional Manga Artist?Wanna Draw Like a Professional Manga Artist?6 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Anime and manga: a booming industry in many parts of the the world. The beautiful and unique style of art and its exquisite stories enticed many readers and captured many young artist's hearts. This is how I started drawing; my love for manga and anime led me to a love of drawing. But like any abilities, good skills do not come overnight; and they don't come no matter how long you sit and wait for them.
I've hit a roadblock in my advancement so I decided to ask my favorite manga artists their own personal experience. It turned out, many of them had difficulties that I'm currently countering. Their advices are most helpful, and I hope you find them helpful too.
To those who never picked up a pencil to draw outside of manatory art classes in school: Read and see the process and other aspects of becoming a good artist. Maybe they can spark a drawing interest in you.
To those who are casual doodlers: These tips may turn you from casual to hard-c

BUT BOY DO I FEEL GOOD ABOUT MY ART.
and you should too!
Tips on becoming the artist you want to be
✸ note that these are tips on how I've started- everyone is different! Learn however you want to learn!
1. STOP DRAWING ONLY FOR OTHERS AND JUST START DRAWING FOR YOU
Ok so this for me was the hardest step. I never ever drew for enjoyment. Even when I drew my characters I wasn't really having fun? What you should do is stop all commissions. Stop all trades. And give yourself one day to draw to make you happy. Even if you don't improve at all you will start loving your art! I know I do!
2. FIND ART THAT MAKES YOU HAPPY
What is better than finding a style that you really love? Than looking at all this art from people that inspires you? NOTHING. (okay maybe besides starbucks and kittens but still!)
when you fin
