A Russian Cosmo forces late model La-71 Attack craft patrols a colony world orbital zone. Armed with high energy weapons and missiles, most note worthy two large "anti-ship" missiles, the craft is ready to battle all intruders.
Design notes: This was done to the writer's original notes and plans. I had drawn an early version over ten years ago, and this "late model" version is based on that original( and much more crude) artpiece. I pulled out my trusty Russian/Soviet aircraft reference books for detail and color ideas.
The Marauder patrol craft is a spaceship found in the "Stellar Horizons" setting. It's actually called the "Orion" class, but since so many pirates, smugglers, and other assorted unsavory types use it, its become known as the "Marauder".
This piece of art was done for the forthcoming Stellar Horizons vehicle guide, due out late spring, early summer 2010.
The Martian Republic's forces employ the Chryse Aerospace FS-140D as the primary planetary defense fighter and interceptor. Armed with four pulse lasers, two plasbolt cannons, and various missiles, the craft is an excellent combat machine. Oddly, this fighter has few other users beyond the Martian military. A few have been employed by the Interstellar Axis, and some have been sold to sanctioned mercenary outfits. This FS-140D streaks into a higher orbit with the Isidis Sea viewable beneath it and the Utopia Bay above and behind the tail.
Design note: The X-15 was the inspiration for this craft, with additional wings and SF weapons and engines added.
The Bijou is a typical Bleriot 342 medium cargoship, with a 425 lyr. maximum FTL single jump range. Bleriot 342s are armed with three quad pulse laser turrets, but this version also has a secret underbelly missile rack. The large cargo bay has more than a 27 ISO40 volume, and three cargo hatches, the main front ramp and hatches on the port and starboard sides. The red marking near the aft is the cover of one of the two lifeboats. There are three main drive units, two smaller drives, and of course the main FTL/Traction drive( which also ties into the main lifting G-coil). The four smaller lift and landing G-coils can be seen on the hull bottom. The two tier crew section is on top and overhangs the cargo bay.
The Bijou was the ship used by my Monday night RPG group for almost a decade, but on Monday 01/28/2013 the last game for that group of players and charcters will occur. The ship has been used, abused, and done things that a 48 year old starship shouldn't be doing. She's been crashed and re-built( many times ), modified, had the toilet system explode, and even been partially sunk in a ocean. The charcters bitched about her shortcomings, old age, French engineering, and ugly apperance, and often talked of replacing her with something newer, faster, and much better armed. But in the end they kept fixing her up, kept her going, and in the end have refused to give her up. In a lot of ways this old starship became a character of her own.
The "Black Widow" spacecraft was a commission for Paul Kidd and was drawn according to his specs. A very stealthy smuggling vessel, fitted with a gun turret and twin missile tubes. A large cargo hatch features on the aft end.

Thr MiG-45 "Flashbar" is the first Russian aerospace interceptor, developed in 2019. The orbit capable interceptor carries missiles on pylons and has a nose mounted laser autocannon. It still serves in PVO service.
Design notes: This is an older illo that I finally got around to coloring. I got to pattern this craft after one of my all-time favorite aircraft, the MiG-25 "Foxbat". I love MiG and Sukhoi aircraft!! I tried to stay true to Soviet/Russian colors and markings...including the "quality maintance" badge on the nose( kinda hard to see at this scale).
The Archangel-Class Planetary Assault Landing Ships are the largest starships dedicated to the Terran Protectorate Colonial Marine Corps. Each ship is capable of carrying an entire marine regiment, and every marine regiment is assigned to one particular home ship. While most operations involve the use of the smaller Titan-class transports, capable of carrying a company of marines, these vessels are held back for massive, long-term operations, like planetary assault and liberation of major worlds. As many as 200 regiments may be involved in such an operation, each arriving in one of thes nearly 3,000 foot-long vessels. They not only carry all of the equipment, personnel and even administrative facilities for each regiment, but they also carry up to 48 Normandy drop ships or Valkyrie combat shuttles and a squadron of fighters, plus 12 standard shuttles and two captain's yachts. During wartime the marines virtually live aboard these vessels, often sitting in deep space near conflict zones waiting for the order to jump in. But for almost all of the transit time they are kept in stasis to save on food, water and other consumables...their stasis tubes are programmed to slowly prepare their bodies for the environment on the planet where operations are to be conducted. The Archangel is moderately armed, but not designed for ship-to-ship combat. It's massive missile and particle beam batteries are focused on planetary bombardment, meant to soften hardened stationary targets in preparation for landing. However, the ship also carries a number of heavy rail gun batteries designed to intercept missiles and enemy bombers that may get past the fleet's screening vessels.
I think the best analog for these ships would be the Rodger Young from Starship Troopers, or the planned America-Class amphibious assault vessels currently being designed by the U.S. Navy.
A commission for :iconShogunblad: for a patrol carrier of the Vagabond class. Having two lauch systems on the top and ventral sides it recovers craft via the entry port in the front or cargo hatches (only for cargo shuttles and the likes). For more specifications check Shugunblade's page
