I.L. Jackson's Guide to Ship Classes
As anyone who has glanced at my gallery knows, I am a star ship fan(atic). I love designing my own starships and I know others do too. But, I've noticed that a lot of artists do not have a good idea of ship classes, what they do (traditionally) and their uses, particularly in a fleet. So, here is a guide to ship classes as they have been used traditionally and how they would likely be used in a sci-fi setting.
This is the one a LOT of people get wrong. A Capital ship is an anchor ship for a fleet, meaning that fleets are built around the capabilities of the capital ships. Just about every other ship in the fleet has some job relating to the capital ships, whether it be defending or tending or supplying that ship.
Capital ships tend to be the largest warships in the fleet. Capital ships also virtually NEVER operate alone. A great example
Free adviceSomeone recently asked me for some advice about going to art college and becoming an illustrator. Here's what I said. Maybe someone here will find this interesting too...Free advice3 years ago in Personal More Like This
1) It's a tough life as an artist. You need more than just good drawing abilities to get by. I know a lot of people who are WAY better than me but can't make it as artists. You need to be personable and likable. Work on your people skills and be sincere. People can tell when it's fake.
2) Learn a broad range of skills. Don't just focus on illustration, but also learn the fundamentals of design, sculpture, painting, storyboarding, etc... those skill will help you more than you can possibly imagine.
3) Be yourself. Find your own style and really refine it.
4) Don't waste your education. Don't go out and party and drink when you should be studying and doing homework. They give you that homework for a reason!
5) Always try to be the best. Challenge yourself to make your assignments the best in your class. Always try to be
Dislike for Ponies: An explanationSo one of my older journals was announcing that I hated "My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic". I didn't explain myself, and that got a lot of people upset. So since I have time, I'll express my distaste for this show. THE FOLLOWING IS MY OPINION! DON'T LIKE IT?! TOO BAD!Dislike for Ponies: An explanation4 years ago in Personal More Like This
First off, the show is about a Unicorn pony named Twilight sparkle, who is an enthusiastic studier, who is sent to Ponyville, in order to make friends, and "come out of her shell" so to speak. The show revolves around Twilight, with her pony friends, Pinkie Pie, a hyperactive pony, AppleJack, a hard-working farm girl, Rainbow Dash, a pegasus competitor, Rarity, a fashonista, and Fluttershy, a gentle animal lover. The characters are one of my main problems with the show.

"I was riding a public utility bus. All seats were occupied, when a group of commuters entered the bus. Most of them were girls. As the bus started to travel the road, the girls are standing, holding tight among the bars. Thus, I stood up, offering my seat to one of them. The girl happily accepted. I was hoping that the guys sitting would do the same ..but none followed, it frustrated me"
Is it really that hard to be a gentleman in the 21st century, that a mere survival of such a knight is slim? Let me define a gentleman, well a gentleman is gentle + man (what? Can't think of any definition right now heh) ..Gentle means that he is proper, conservative, ethical, morale, and simply a nice guy altogether. As the age of romanticism grew, and the rights of women became equal to men, the guys in general, saw the girls as a subject of beauty, of a fragile vase, shining under the sun. Chivalry on that moment is the code of conduct of knights. With Chivalry, they are to
The Server is our homeYesterday I was asked to review the server logs after another malicious attack on our server. When I was asked to do so I could not, because the girls and I were in the middle of our first recording session of the year. When the session was over I was exhausted after spending nearly eight hours solid on the computer, and needed to go do something else. By the time I returned home from my outing I was to tired to get the server logs. The Server is our home2 years ago in Personal More Like This
In order to get the logs to look over user activity in order to spot any malicious looking activity I need to shut the server down, back the whole thing up, then go through each log top to bottom. This can take a couple of hours. Even if I do spot malicious looking activity I can not be sure the person I'm reading is actually the one committing crimes. A server log is circumstantial evidence only.
Today I checked to see if the server was up, and it is not. I have left it off to sleep until I can get to it, possibly

About PassionI'm fairly young, I understand. I have a life ahead of me to figure things out. My ideas about what I want and what I need will change. However, that hasn't stopped me from experiencing passion, and I'd like to share with you things I've learned about it.About Passion1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Passion rewards intrinsically, and I believe that's perfectly put. *scratches my head* It's really difficult for me to describe to you what exactly I mean by that because it's terribly simple. Passion is an internal matter. For example, my passion is learning about life. I loved handling various organisms that my AP Bio class got to study. I didn't love it because what we were studying was cute (hell, we studied the behavior of pill bugs one day). I loved it because as I was learning new things I could feel the pleasure centers in my brain FIRE. The kind of fire that slowly seeps into every crack of your mind and warms your soul. The kind of fire the makes your being vibrate. I also got that feeling elbow deep in a

So, You Want To Write?A quick explanation: As an admin in the RWBY group, a group that has thousands of members and is steadily growing, I have to read over a lot of fanfiction submissions. Not all of that fanfiction is good, however, and I have found myself turning down and removing some of it. Some people ask for an explanation as to why I've denied entry for their art. This journal is written for them. So, You Want To Write?3 months ago in Personal More Like This
Hello, RWBY lover! This is not a personal attack on you. It's a dispassionate, simple matter of fact: We have quality control. Your art failed to meet standards. We don't have time to help aspiring artists improve their art, but for you: writing is my talent. I can offer some advice. I'm no expert, but I know what I'm doing.
1) Read more books. Seek out the great works of monumental magnitude! I've read a few of them and can say this:

Except this time, it won't be small. Instead of sitting centered on a 6x6 panel, the command module will be dwarfed by a vast ocean.
I started by sanding the paint off one of my lost causes and priming the surface with a heavy gesso. I mixed in some paper towel to create a base for the waves.
While that dried, I began to tackle the problem of making a real life spacecraft out of the contents of this box.

Reunion Pt. 4Before Shaw could fully realize what was happening or even stumble in the sudden darkness he had found himself engulfed in, he realized he was off his feet, suspended high above the ground in the dark void which Naga had turned the room into in his sudden outburst. Something was constricting him, an invisible hand crushing his torso, his arms wrapped close to his body. He felt a sudden painful shock along his spine and the back of his skull as he was slammed violently against a shadow covered wall, a second thud beside him could be heard immediately after. In his daze he could hear whimpering coming from the source of the second sound. Dread forced its way into his mind driving his limbs painfully numb and lifeless. Another whimpering cry emanated from beside him. He knew now he was not alone in what was to come, but he could not see just who it was. Are you tired of inspecting the element of Miiverse JUST to get your artwork into your computer? Well, you're in LUCK. There's an app for that!NEW Work-around to Art Academy's small files2 years ago in Personal More Like This
1. Open Art Academy on Miiverse.
2. Open your artwork, as if you were gonna paint it some more.
3. Open the Wii U menu, and go into the browser.
4. Open your email and send yo'self a file attachment! You can attach what's on the screen at the moment, which will be Art Academy's artwork. A nice 1240 x 700 jpeg file will be sent to your email!
5. Be happy.
Props to user Holly for having figured this out in Imgur and spreading the word. Miiverse artists deserve to have a full sized artwork, even if it isn't as big as it can be.
Try it out, and comment your results.
(Some editing MAY be required, depending on what TV you have. Results may vary).
EDIT: Ok, so. A few weeks ago I had a theory about Art Academy's real resolution: The size you see on the gamepad is

Janga Forrest: Mid-day
The Cli’sorr commandos had been running since sunrise and were well away from the Capitol base when they saw the nuclear charge detonate. Commandos aren’t normally ones to panic, but here and now, even the steel resolve hammered into them by years of brutal training gave way to terror. As one the squad turned and began to run at full speed. Even with their jump packs, they couldn’t hope to outpace the coming shockwave, but being even a little further from the epicenter of the blast couldn’t hurt. As the massive shockwave reached them, the squad dove for any form of cover they could find. The wave of condensed air raced passed them, kicking up loose dirt from the ground and knocking over trees that had stood for more than a thousand years. Several commandos where thrown from where they hid, the others weathered the storm and waited patiently for the coming backwash before they moved again.
Slowly, the team began to extract

“Sir, their here”
That one sentence made everyone in the fleet freeze.
“I'm counting 8 signatures, edge of system and closing fast. 3 Cruisers 4 corvettes and... I'm reading something huge my lord” The man said in awe. It was understandable. Many people hadn’t even set eyes on the Nakai or one of their legendary ships. They were stories mostly, nothing more. However the time had come when old stories must resurface. In fire.
Myric was ready to make sure these stories stayed as such. Here in the deep void of space the 1st Emperors Own was here to stop them. Over a thousand ships of many many races the fleet was assembled in a defensive formation. Here lay renowned ships from all over Union space. But in the centre lay the sleek triangular form of the Interceptor the Emperors Personal flagship. However unlike the other ships around it, it looked more Nakai than human.

He noted that as he had ordered, all ships had shields at full and were ready for action. He also noted the various gravimetric, radiation, and disturbance readings the ship was picking up.
Grand Exemplar Leonid watched as the gravimetric distortions appeared on sensors, there were too many to be a natural occurrence, quite clearly they were a fleet coming out of some sort of FTL, he turned to the white robed adept below him on the bridge rung "Helm, take us out to the location, not too close but close enough" He looked the other side to another adept "Coms i want you to alert the high command and tell the system to possibly prepare for conflict" He ordered. No Fear of FlyingI recently flew back from Italy. It's my first time outside North America. It was amazing to consider I started my return day on the Italian Riviera (no, I'm not rich…), then flew over the snow capped Alps, over the chilly North Atlantic dotted with floating icebergs as far as the eye could see, then over the still snow laced tundra of Labrador to arrive back in balmy New England. I don't take that for granted, and don't understand how any one can?No Fear of Flying1 year ago in Personal More Like This
For me flying is the closest I come to a religious experience. Maybe it's because it forces my brain to "think big". You can't look out the window and not see that humanity - all that stuff we take for granted: cars, houses, friends, family - is all just a fine dust distributed around a vast globe. But at the same time you see Earth more as a planet - a finite ecosystem in which powerful yet subtle natural processes shape the land and life.
I don't understand why more people aren't awed by the views and the change in perspective - esp

Retracting and transporting an antenna more than 250,000km²m was no small task under any circumstance, least of all while closely orbiting a colossal neutron star surrounded by Blinkers and certainly not with the timetables that Svaen had been given. Not even the Son of Man himself could have taken the timetables seriously. The whole operation felt like she was slowly getting spit-roasted by her superiors who saw she was quickly going up the ranks of the Triarch Corporation and had decided to begin throwing the real curveballs at her.
She and most of her staff had long given out on sleep as the deadlines approached and the three colossal antennae still remained orbiting around False Sovereign. Most of the time had already been spent drawing up plans on how to move such huge objects, five entire days had been wasted after one of the two dozen EPA ships meant to help Svaen's crew misfolded one of the antenna and they had t
