This is not spam!Hello, everyone! This is not spam!2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
This journal entry is about spam. Or rather, it's about what spam isn't.
According to the help section spam is this:
"What is "spamming"?
Spamming is the act of using deviantART as a means to commercially advertise using journals, deviations comments, forums or notes and is considered an abuse regardless of how or where the advertisements are presented.
Commercial business operations are welcome to advertise on deviantART but only through proper advertising channels as outlined through our advertising contact page located at [link] . Commercial entities creating accounts to advertise for free, will find their accounts closed and their websites potentially blacklisted."
So here is what is not spam:
- comments from people disagreeing with you
- a discussion (even if it's off-topic) between two deviants that happens in your comments

Overthought, Underbaked: The Controversial New DA Logo
So, in response to requests for my thoughts on the new DA logo — and being disinclined to type the same response repeatedly — I will lay out my impressions here.
To paraphrase a certain swordsman: "You keep using that logo, but I do not think it conveys what you think it does."
The new logo is certainly clever, and as a designer — setting aside any resemblance to the platzkart.ru logo, accidental or otherwise — one can easily imagine the careful thought that went into its concept and execution, but...
If there is one thing that I took from my schooling in graphic design, it was the importance of clarity: of meaning, of import, of impression. This was true for any work, its composition, it layout, its style — its effective visceral message. Logo design, above all, is go
Apollo Spashdown Diorama: FinishedFor some reason, all the space sites I follow can't stop talking about Apollo 11. Pictures of the moon landing, etc. that kept popping up on my facebook news feed nagged me to revisit an idea I had a few months ago. I wanted to make a small diorama of an Apollo spashdown with an astronaut exiting the hatch. So I got to work.Apollo Spashdown Diorama: Finished5 months ago in Personal More Like This
Except this time, it won't be small. Instead of sitting centered on a 6x6 panel, the command module will be dwarfed by a vast ocean.
I started by sanding the paint off one of my lost causes and priming the surface with a heavy gesso. I mixed in some paper towel to create a base for the waves.
While that dried, I began to tackle the problem of making a real life spacecraft out of the contents of this box.

New concept images show a spacecraft with a warp drive that could travel to our nearest star in 4 weeks - current ships would take 80,000 years
Friday 13 June 2014
Believe it or not, Nasa is serious about creating faster than light travel, and have released a new batch of concept images (see gallery below) showing exactly what a spacecraft equipped with a star-hopping warp drive might look like.
Created in collaboration between Dutch artist Mark Rademaker and Nasa physicist Dr Harold White, the illustrations show a craft powered by an Alcubierre Drive – a hypothetical engine that was first suggested in 1994 as a way of achieving faster than light speeds.
Alcubierre’s device worked by distorting space-time, expanding the space behind a ship and contracting the space in front of it to create
The Server is our homeYesterday I was asked to review the server logs after another malicious attack on our server. When I was asked to do so I could not, because the girls and I were in the middle of our first recording session of the year. When the session was over I was exhausted after spending nearly eight hours solid on the computer, and needed to go do something else. By the time I returned home from my outing I was to tired to get the server logs. The Server is our home1 year ago in Personal More Like This
In order to get the logs to look over user activity in order to spot any malicious looking activity I need to shut the server down, back the whole thing up, then go through each log top to bottom. This can take a couple of hours. Even if I do spot malicious looking activity I can not be sure the person I'm reading is actually the one committing crimes. A server log is circumstantial evidence only.
Today I checked to see if the server was up, and it is not. I have left it off to sleep until I can get to it, possibly

I.L. Jackson's Guide to Ship Classes
As anyone who has glanced at my gallery knows, I am a star ship fan(atic). I love designing my own starships and I know others do too. But, I've noticed that a lot of artists do not have a good idea of ship classes, what they do (traditionally) and their uses, particularly in a fleet. So, here is a guide to ship classes as they have been used traditionally and how they would likely be used in a sci-fi setting.
This is the one a LOT of people get wrong. A Capital ship is an anchor ship for a fleet, meaning that fleets are built around the capabilities of the capital ships. Just about every other ship in the fleet has some job relating to the capital ships, whether it be defending or tending or supplying that ship.
Capital ships tend to be the largest warships in the fleet. Capital ships also virtually NEVER operate alone. A great example
About PassionI'm fairly young, I understand. I have a life ahead of me to figure things out. My ideas about what I want and what I need will change. However, that hasn't stopped me from experiencing passion, and I'd like to share with you things I've learned about it.About Passion6 months ago in Personal More Like This
Passion rewards intrinsically, and I believe that's perfectly put. *scratches my head* It's really difficult for me to describe to you what exactly I mean by that because it's terribly simple. Passion is an internal matter. For example, my passion is learning about life. I loved handling various organisms that my AP Bio class got to study. I didn't love it because what we were studying was cute (hell, we studied the behavior of pill bugs one day). I loved it because as I was learning new things I could feel the pleasure centers in my brain FIRE. The kind of fire that slowly seeps into every crack of your mind and warms your soul. The kind of fire the makes your being vibrate. I also got that feeling elbow deep in a
Free adviceSomeone recently asked me for some advice about going to art college and becoming an illustrator. Here's what I said. Maybe someone here will find this interesting too...Free advice3 years ago in Personal More Like This
1) It's a tough life as an artist. You need more than just good drawing abilities to get by. I know a lot of people who are WAY better than me but can't make it as artists. You need to be personable and likable. Work on your people skills and be sincere. People can tell when it's fake.
2) Learn a broad range of skills. Don't just focus on illustration, but also learn the fundamentals of design, sculpture, painting, storyboarding, etc... those skill will help you more than you can possibly imagine.
3) Be yourself. Find your own style and really refine it.
4) Don't waste your education. Don't go out and party and drink when you should be studying and doing homework. They give you that homework for a reason!
5) Always try to be the best. Challenge yourself to make your assignments the best in your class. Always try to be
Dislike for Ponies: An explanationSo one of my older journals was announcing that I hated "My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic". I didn't explain myself, and that got a lot of people upset. So since I have time, I'll express my distaste for this show. THE FOLLOWING IS MY OPINION! DON'T LIKE IT?! TOO BAD!Dislike for Ponies: An explanation3 years ago in Personal More Like This
First off, the show is about a Unicorn pony named Twilight sparkle, who is an enthusiastic studier, who is sent to Ponyville, in order to make friends, and "come out of her shell" so to speak. The show revolves around Twilight, with her pony friends, Pinkie Pie, a hyperactive pony, AppleJack, a hard-working farm girl, Rainbow Dash, a pegasus competitor, Rarity, a fashonista, and Fluttershy, a gentle animal lover. The characters are one of my main problems with the show.
No Fear of FlyingI recently flew back from Italy. It's my first time outside North America. It was amazing to consider I started my return day on the Italian Riviera (no, I'm not rich…), then flew over the snow capped Alps, over the chilly North Atlantic dotted with floating icebergs as far as the eye could see, then over the still snow laced tundra of Labrador to arrive back in balmy New England. I don't take that for granted, and don't understand how any one can?No Fear of Flying7 months ago in Personal More Like This
For me flying is the closest I come to a religious experience. Maybe it's because it forces my brain to "think big". You can't look out the window and not see that humanity - all that stuff we take for granted: cars, houses, friends, family - is all just a fine dust distributed around a vast globe. But at the same time you see Earth more as a planet - a finite ecosystem in which powerful yet subtle natural processes shape the land and life.
I don't understand why more people aren't awed by the views and the change in perspective - esp

I remember seeing these pictures pop up right before Misty went back to her gym in Cerulean city. They are official pictures from a video that somehow leaked. What is funny is that the images were immediately removed from the official Pokemon website after some fans went crazy with excitement over seeing images of this pretty pink haired girl with Ash's Pikachu who looks so much like Ash. She definitely looks like Ash and she has Misty's eyes.
Now, this picture shows a noticeably older Misty (possibly in her early twenties) with the same little girl as the first picture. These images are extremely hard to find online. OMG that girl is so CUTE!!! I don't care wha

I will eventually post stuff here on DA, but I felt the format of my blog lent itself better to an overview of the process, and to acknowledge some of the others involved. So I decided to begin with that out of consideration to the talented people I feel privileged to have worked with!
Feel free to have a look: http://steveburg.blogspot.com/
There is an "Art of" book, which I just got - and it's quite nice! But it contains only a fraction of the art generated for the project by myself and the other artists on the team.
I worked with a small group here in the US that included Steven Messing, David Levy, Ben Procter, Carlos Huante, Neville Page & Daniel Simon. And there are other artists who worked over in the UK when the film went into full production. So you can imagine quite a lot of artwork was generated!

The Internet Archive is a massive digital library that stores all sorts of material in the public domain, from music and movies to images, webpages and nearly three million books. All of this is open-source and available to the general public free of charge. The books documented below cover all sorts of subjects from different eras, from anatomy to portraiture, fashion to architecture, from the works of Leonardo Da Vinci to the letters of Vincent van Gogh.
And this is only scratching the surface! If you head over to the Archive and search for whatever subjects catches your interest most you can find much, much more. Just select "Texts" in the search box at the top of the page.
About the MInecrafters/Youtubers Life Statusokay, i've been getting attack becuz of this pic people are saying that Notch and EZ are no longer together/married ... i'm going to say this here and only ONCE!!!About the MInecrafters/Youtubers Life Status1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I'm using their minecraft skins NOT the owners themselves, like Sky and Dawn, they are no longer together, but at the time i made the comic layout they were, but i did tweak it and they just freinds/ex in the comic, but i did not remove the characters... so, if any status of the real people chance, like no longer friends with so-and-so, they're Minecraft OC will NOT reflect!!!
so... yes, in my Minecraft:The Awakening, Notch is still married to EZ (their MC skins)... THIS IS A FAN MADE COMIC!!! I don't go to people who ship Ant and CaptainSparlkez and tell them off... so plz drop it and stop sending me notes! >:E
if you tell me again they or them (or whatever) no longer together or what ever, i'll send you back here...
thank you for understanding ^_^

Off on my new quest to visit Riften, I had my first random dragon encounter. Damn thing had me cornered on the mountain (cuz I was trying to glitch my way through the mountains faster) and it nearly killed me. But somehow I managed to take it down with only a sliver of life left. Hooray!
Stole a pony and then quickly got caught for it forcing me to pay the fine. I stole another pony and it was going nicely until I dismounted. The horse then promptly disappeared and I never saw it again. Curious...
Completed the golden claw quest on my way to Riften too. That was a quest I was long overdue in checking back in on.
It took me a while to figure out how to get to Riften. There's a big mountain in my way so taking the straight path wasn't an option. Along my journey I came across a fortress that had been overtaken by thieves. Upon inspection inside it seems to have become a dog fighting betting parlor. Details such as this are why I enjoy games like Skyrim. Nobody sa
NEW Work-around to Art Academy's small filesAre you tired of being constricted to the measly 800 x 450px size of Art Academy? Are you tired of inspecting the element of Miiverse JUST to get your artwork into your computer? Well, you're in LUCK. There's an app for that!NEW Work-around to Art Academy's small files1 year ago in Personal More Like This
1. Open Art Academy on Miiverse.
2. Open your artwork, as if you were gonna paint it some more.
3. Open the Wii U menu, and go into the browser.
4. Open your email and send yo'self a file attachment! You can attach what's on the screen at the moment, which will be Art Academy's artwork. A nice 1240 x 700 jpeg file will be sent to your email!
5. Be happy.
Props to user Holly for having figured this out in Imgur and spreading the word. Miiverse artists deserve to have a full sized artwork, even if it isn't as big as it can be.
Try it out, and comment your results.
(Some editing MAY be required, depending on what TV you have. Results may vary).

Now, from here on out this may be purely opinion and because my participation in the industry has only been for about 10 years (as in being paid for my work) I may not be the best person to speak on this matter. However, I have to say something, if only to put my own opinions on the matter out there.
15 years ago I got my first commission. It was a full colour realism portrait for someone of their dog and I offered to do it for $5.00 using traditional media.
They took up the offer and it took me about a week of working on and off to finish their image. At the time I wasn't anywhere near being sure of my skills even though I'd been drawing comprehensively

As the bus started to travel the road, the girls are standing, holding tight among the bars. Thus, I stood up, offering my seat to one of them. The girl happily accepted. I was hoping that the guys sitting would do the same ..but none followed, it frustrated me"
Is it really that hard to be a gentleman in the 21st century, that a mere survival of such a knight is slim? Let me define a gentleman, well a gentleman is gentle + man (what? Can't think of any definition right now heh) ..Gentle means that he is proper, conservative, ethical, morale, and simply a nice guy altogether. As the age of romanticism grew, and the rights of women became equal to men, the guys in general, saw the girls as a subject of beauty, of a fragile vase, shining under the sun. Chivalry on that moment is the code of conduct of knights. With Chivalry, they are to
