What's Wrong With Praise? So this is another one of those artistic taboos we're never suppose to talk about, apparently. The idea of giving back positive feedback to an artist. It's seen as "coddling" as "babying" as "inflating the ego" and has such intense negative associations. It seems to be generally accepted that the only way to critique someone's work is to point out ONLY the negative parts. Any attempt to point out anything positive or something you liked about the work is seen as being unhelpful towards the artist's growth. What's Wrong With Praise?1 year ago in Personal More Like This
And frankly I think that's a bunch of hogwash.
Speaking from my own experience, I rarely ever get anything positive said about my work in a constructive way. I might get a lot of "good jobs" or people talking happily about my comics because they made them laugh, but I rarely if ever get any comments that go into detail explaining WHY I did something right. On the flip side, the amount of negative criticism and nitpicking is almost hilariously rampant, not just on my artwork but on th

Few words about art-thieves.Hi!Few words about art-thieves.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
My dear watchers, I really appreciate your support when it comes to fight against art-thieves.
But I bet there are also many people whose thoughs can be interpretted like "why is she so hysterical about it?". Some people say, that the fact, that some photo is worth stealing, is a kind of compliment.
Ok, so let me present my point.
At first: why am I so unhappy about reposting of photos?
Because, pals, if somebody just reposts a photo without any change, it just gives totally open space to other people who would find the photos on his/her blog, taking it and posting it themselves. And because the first person did not credit the original author, they also do not credit the creator. The more people do that, the more times the photo is reposted. Always without credit. Sooner or later, it becomes a kind of "public" property and original author has almost no chance to effect this situation.
Do you know this photo? Honestly, EVERYBODY knows it. But do you know original author? Do you

Fear of CreativityA rather unfortunate, yet commonplace problem amongst creative minds is one of fear: fear of being creative, fear of making something that could be terrible, fear of rejection, fear of judgment, fear of failure. This root fear seems driven by every artist's desire to make great work. After all, that is why creative people createto build or define beauty as they see fit. So when inspiration strikes, there is both a drive to create and an element of fear holding back. The apparent duality of this situation is actually multifaceted.Fear of Creativity2 years ago in Personal More Like This
First, there is the general fear of failure. Nobody wants to fail, creatively or otherwise, even though great minds have shown us that failure is necessary for improvement. This fear of failure manifests itself as hesitation and self-doubt, ultimately causing procrastination or just a delayed start, or even destroying the urge to create altogether.
Secondly, the fear of judgment. Fearing what others might think of the work, fearing comments of negativity

Edit: Show Me Work, Get FeedbackEdit 2: This is a little random, but I just wanted to say how happy it makes me to see that you guys took the time to comment on some of the other pieces posted here Hehe. I've been noticing it as I have been leaving my own feedback, and it is just so so wonderful!Edit: Show Me Work, Get Feedback2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Let me also reassure you guys not to get discouraged by the sheer number of comments- I will get to everybody! I have made it a personal mission (; Even if it takes me a month haha. If you want an idea of the length of the comments I am leaving you can turn to the first and second pages of comments...You might be able to see why this is going to take a bit of time (;
Anyway, thank you guys for the opportunity and mission!
Edit: Hey guys! I just wrote the first critique, and it took me a lot longer than I had anticipated XD I think at this pace I will be able to do say, 5 to 10 a day. Maybe more if I have the time? It is good practice for my art classes, as I am supposed to be writ

Hey everyone! PizzaPotatoNBacon, one of the lovely admins, suggested that we hold a weekly feature for group members. We're going to start a new activity each week where we'll randomly select a member to be featured in a journal as well as on the front page.
If you'd like to be participate, please add this journal to your favorites. Next week, we'll draw a number, and if your number is chosen, then you'll be featured for the week!
Sorry to bother you...Hello all,Sorry to bother you...7 months ago in Deviant Events More Like This
I thought I'd take a moment today to write a journal which is probably long overdue. I believe there is a common misconception floating around that CVs are so busy, that when you send us DD Suggestions, or other messages, you are being a bother.
Quite regularly the DD Suggestions I receive start with something along the lines of "I am sorry to bother you..." or "I know you are busy but.."
I'd like to assure you all that no suggestions you send, or any other type of contact made with me (or any other CV for that matter) is something to feel sorry or bad about (unless you are legitimately harassing us or something).
I've often heard community members talk about how many notes CVs get daily (often this number appears to be near 100) and I feel the need to say that this is very far from the truth. On average I receive maybe 5 notes a day. On a slow day I may not get any at all and on a busy day I may get up to 10. While I can not speak

Thanks for meeting, dear - sorry if I were a bad company, I hope next time it would be better!
We gave each other X-mas presents and because the weather was awful, we decided to got to Vivarium Prague - it was a tiny facility, which featured some interesting lizards

Encouragement-Affirmation-InspirationI have envisioned a way to feature many in our literature community in a way that would give attention to a broad spectrum of folk regardless of their skill level. This could be a great way to present yourself to the community and be a source of encouragement or inspiration to many others.Encouragement-Affirmation-Inspiration9 months ago in Personal More Like This
Here is how it will work.
1. Spread the word!
2. Note me with an uplifting quote of encouragement, affirmation or inspiration.
The quote should be brief and pointed; A few sentences preferred, though longer quotes of exceptional merit will be considered.
Cite the author if it is known; or you may write your own quote that fits our title's definitions.'Link' or 'thumb' a piece of your own writing in the note and state why it is meaningful to you. (If you are uncertain how to do this note me for help)
3. Depending on the response, I hope to build a library where the best and brightest uplifting quotes, and the featured providers, are displayed daily; though I suspect it will be

ZOO Salzburg - PhotosHiZOO Salzburg - Photos1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I am back from Alps
It was a very short trip, but I got to see ZOO Salzburg, visited fantastic spa, had a nice walk, travelled by cute little train, ate a deer and all was simply nice
But my camera and this ZOO are not friends :/ so I have only very few photos for you, I took mostly journal shots.
And their special GINGER (!!!!) wolves were sleeping again! I have never seen such inactive wolves in any ZOO
I also replied to almost all the notes!
I hope you do not hate me for not responding to all contest notes you sent me months ago - those who won were those who sent the first three notes, so there was justice anyway and the right answer was released too, so I would need to reply to all those messages just with "I am sorry that you did not win, I wish you good luck next time" thanks for understanding!

Here at CRCommunityProjects, we care about you and the community!
Welcome to our own project, the Mentoring Project!
This project aims to pair users who are experienced with projects and certain communities within dA.
There are many benefits to utilizing the mentoring program! Getting a mentor will help you learn more about your art community niche and how to set up projects and promote them effectively; becoming a mentor will help you do something wonderful for the community. Involving yourself in this project will hopefully lead to many lasting friendships!
This project, however, does not serve to be an art tutor style mentoring project, rather it focuses on the creation on projects, features, contests, groups, and resources!

As many of you have noticed, the Literature gallery gets a huge influx of fan fiction submissions. We're hoping that by having Fan Fiction under the Literature umbrella, the number of miscats in the overall gallery will drop. And, for those of us who frequent both galleries, it'll simplify submitting and finding work.
Of course, we can't cut down on miscats without your help! Please spread the word by favoriting and sharing this journal, and by moving any of your own submissions as appropriate.
Not sure whether your submission counts as fan fiction? :faq572:
(Note that gallery updates for both Literature and Fan Fiction is in the works. Please continue to use the category that best fits your work.)
You're welcome to bring your concerns to us at any time!
