Gift art for fellow deviant featuring her Egyptian-esque OC Ekibe. I've seen this character drawn by other artists and fell in love with her gorgeous design, so I wanted to take my own stab at rendering her.
I notice I have a thing for black women with cornrowed hair.
So I'm super stoked about the relaunch of Uncanny X-Force in January. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Remender's run on the book. He set the standard for what I expect out of a great comic book. I'm just happy Storm's in. The mohawk is back! Now, growing up, I wasn't a fan of the mohawk at all. I loved the long flowing locks of hair Storm had in the beginning, and how it's been since the late 90s. One drawing completely changed my opinion of the mohawk; the cover of Astonishing X-Men: Xenogenesis #1 by Kaare Andrews is astounding. Seriously, if you've never seen it, google it. Since that one cover (and that awesome miniseries; read it), I've been hoping and wishing the mohawk would come back officially.
Finally I get my wish.

So, not everyone was a fan of AvX. And I get it. For me, I'm sorry, but I hate when a book or a series doesn't have one artist. To me, it just interrupts the flow of the storytelling because different artists might interpret scripts in different ways. Even in small ways. In one of the latter issues though, there is a great moment where Storm opens the sky up on Emma....and I loved it. It's a little line where not much is said and visually, Coipel just made me squee.
"Emma....there's something I've always wanted to say to you..." * cue the sky opening up on her ass *
I was also very fortunate that this image was part of the ad campaign launched to promote the series before it came out. I don't know if I ever plan on being a sequential artist, so seeing this on the back cover of Marvel Comics in a full page color ad is the closest I've come to being "in print" in a comic.
And that's Juuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuust fine by me.
Happy easter everybody and enjoy this big chocolate bunny.

If you can't read what it says on the image (meant to do that) This is what it says:
This is my hidden blade. There are many like it, but this one is mine. My blade is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I master my life. My blade, without me, is useless. Without my blade, I am useless. I must use my hidden blade for truth. I must kill faster than any enemy who is trying to kill me. I must kill him before he kills me. I will... My blade and I know that what counts in this war is not the lives we take, the silence of our attack, nor the moves we make. We know that it is the strikes that count. We will strike.... My hidden blade is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weakness, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its feel and its balance. I will keep my blade clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready. We will become part of each other. We will.... Before God I swear this creed. My hidden blade and I are the defenders of my world. We are the masters of our enemy. We are the saviors to all life. So be it, until victory is men’s and there is no enemy, but Peace.
