Mass Effect 3 - Happy Ending Mod...Mass Effect 3 - Happy Ending Mod3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Yet again the Mass Effect Fandom proved that it will not leave the ending in the state it was presented in the game. A certain (fan!) mod was created (and is right now in the testing phase) a Happy Ending Mod for ME3. We can destroy the Reapers, Shepard lives (EDI and Geth too) and most importantly of all we don't have to worry about the Star Child.
Instruction how to install it and the mod itself can be found here:
You can also check how the mod works here on youtube:

The right way to end a storyI'd like to share a few paragraphs from a great book about writing fiction by Nancy Kress, called "Beginnings, Middles and Ends". Boring title, but a very useful book that every aspiring writer should have on their reference shelf. The right way to end a story3 years ago in Personal More Like This
The following passage is from the chapter "Satisfying Endings: Delivering on the Promise". Please note that Nancy expounds at length that not all endings need to be happy, and indeed, many shouldn't be in order to be effective. I was not at all upset that there was no "happy" ending with the new ME3 DLC. The issues were more fundamental, with the way they developed the story arc and in the end, betrayed several of them, mostly in delivery. But the problems weren't unsalvageable to begin with.
"To succeed, a climax must do four things:
" 1. The climax must satisfy the view of life implied in your story."
Nancy mentioned before this about making a promise with your story, that t
Character Feature: Shyla ShepardThe seemingly indomitable Shyla Shepard has lived a harsh and tragic past. After losing her family at sixteen to a bloody Batarian pirate attack on an Alliance colony, the young fighter joined the Alliance military only to lose her entire squad in a deadly thresher maw attack. In the years since, these early scars have forged a new identity out of the shattered ruins of the child whose family died on Mindoir. Known for her “tough but fair” approach, Shepard’s fight against the geth incursion broke new grounds for humanity when she became the first human Spectre on the galactic Council’s elite forces. But recent rumors have put in question Shepard’s loyalty to the Alliance forces. Our investigator setup an exclusive interview to delve into the truth behind the legend.Character Feature: Shyla Shepard4 years ago in Personal More Like This

Huh? I didn't! You ignored me! Well, when we were chasing Saren I was just overwhelmed with the responsibility of command and I wasn't sure what to do about you. I think I was fairly flirty. When we were going after the Collectors you played hard to get.
When did you discover you fascination for me?

Mass Effect 4 is coming, Omega DLC is confirmedBefore we get into it, I'd like to preface this with the sad fact that both of Bioware's co-founders Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuck have retired from the company.Mass Effect 4 is coming, Omega DLC is confirmed3 years ago in Personal More Like This

For those of you who would like to pay their respects to the departing minds which have supporting Bioware through the years with their own thank yous and other supportive messages... do not go to the Bioware Social Network. Really, go anywhere but there. Capitalism Key To Ending PovertyI've written about the blogsite "Big Think" before and again. For a site called "Big Think," its blog posts tend to promote small ideas, giving me the impression that the site is only "Big Think" in name.Capitalism Key To Ending Poverty2 years ago in Personal More Like This
But a recent article managed to increase my respect for it by at least one point.
In his post "The Upward Spiral of Capitalism and the End of Poverty", John Mackey argues that, contrary to popular misconception, capitalism is not a zero-sum game, but rather a "win, win, win, win, win game" where everyone wins.
Mackey dispels the myth that wealth is a "limited fixed pie" that needs to be equally distributed to prevent others from getting "unfair large pieces," and argues that it's really a "growing pie" that allows
ME: Paragon Lost, plus unannounced Story DLCThe project of taking Mass Effect and distilling some story aspect of the universe into a form palatable for production as an animated short movie was a project that, quite honestly, slipped my attention after I first posted about it some months ago.ME: Paragon Lost, plus unannounced Story DLC3 years ago in Personal More Like This
If you're in the same situation I was, here is the long and short of it. Mass Effect: Paragon Lost is an anime film created by Funimation --the same people who did the Dragon Age anime-- and will focus on James Vega and his mission against the Collectors before the events of Mass Effect 3.
And, Comic Con being a good a time as any, they just recently debuted a teaser trailer.
Did I mention it was anime?
I know a lot of you are clamoring for more single player DLC, especially those of you who aren't interested in all the multiplayer expansions.

Mastering TypographyMastering TypographyMastering Typography3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Typography is a rather obscure field, which is quite odd because typography is in everything you read. As such, it’s very important for a graphic designer to know everything there is to know about typography and preferably also the history and anatomy of typefaces. Bad typography is usually only consciously noticeable by type geeks (like me), however even someone who knows absolutely nothing about typography will find text with bad typography harder to read. In this article you will learn some basic principles and features to advance your typography.
Before we have a look at the features to improve your typography we have to select the right software. A few features which will be discussed in this article can be used pretty much regardless of the software but for most things you have to use genuine design software, so a program like Microsoft Word won’t suffice. You can achiev

History of Roman typefacesHistory of Roman typefacesHistory of Roman typefaces3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Typefaces are our instruments to construct words and sentences. Of course this very article couldn’t be written without type other than writing by hand and scanning it in, but I wouldn’t know how to save the file or how to access the website to upload it to if I had no access to typefaces. Of course I don’t have to say where type can be found; it’s absolutely everywhere. However, most people don’t consider where typefaces come from. Most of my life and even the first 5 years or so of my design career I was absolutely ignorant of where typefaces came from. I mean, they were just "there" on the computer and I never considered someone actually had to make typefaces for us to use—letter by letter. In this article I will discuss the history of Roman typefaces; how it progressed during the ages, how each style can be recognized and how to select typefaces consciously and logically r
brentalfloss: The Comic is EndingToday we announced publicly that brentalfloss: The Comic http://brentalflossthecomic.com/ will be ending by the end of this month. After today's strip there will be 5 more and then it will be done. Sad to see it go after doing 200 episodes. This has been one of my favorite comic related jobs I've ever had and an incredibly steady and reliable one at that. I personally would love to keep doing this job for a couple more years, but Brent and Dan both want to move on to other projects and we've all come to the mutual agreement that 200 is a perfect stopping point. Nothing lasts forever, ya know?
To be honest, I am a little surprised brentalfloss: The Comic lasted this long. Things were a little rocky at first, and it took all 3 of us a while to get used to each others sty

Mass Effect 3 Music Teaser, Composer ListOne of the things that I have so far been anticipating the most about Mass Effect 3 has been the music. Sure, we've had great examples of fan imaginings, like Zorah's Fire http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBOwP2RFDhA , this singularly puzzling "leaked" track http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x68THI0pL0M&feature=related and, of course, my personal favorite; the talented Draco Nared's imaging of the Mass Effect 3 theme http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLu9Q3SRGMg
And we've also had the haunting, plaintive piano theme pulled from the leaked beta, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWA2rJEhmNs . (Don't mind the sound; there are no spoilers.)
Plus, I also talked previously about how I thought the Mass Effect music was generally going in the direction of more overt orchestral styles, and it seems I was right.
Bioware recently had a bit of a press release on their Facebook pro
How to cope with Art BlocksAlmost every single artist has at one point or the other in their life lost motivation, inspiration or even both and without the knowledge of how to deal with what we then call an Art Block, it can take a long time to overcome this lack of artistic drive. A time that might otherwise be used for further improvement and personal artistic growth. How to cope with Art Blocks3 years ago in Personal More Like This
So today I would like to give you a few tips on how to defeat an art block. There is no definite guarantee to either of them, as everybody experiences their blocking differently but maybe you can at least find small suggestions that will eventually help.
Inspiration is literally everywhere, you just need to open your eyes to see it.
We can find inspiration through:
Letting your favourite books, movies, series or games inspire you is always one of the most obvious ways. Fan Art is a good way to retrieve inspiration because most of all y

Here is the interviewer's original post.
"Okay, here is what I asked Patrick Weekes, and his answers as best as I can remember them. I've paraphrased but I'm doing my best to stick to what he said rather than introduce any interpretation.
THESE ARE NOT DIRECT QUOTES.
-Is there still a setting to explore after the ending? Is everything ruined?
The setting is definitely not ruined. We still have a big, lively galaxy.
-Will long-distance superluminal travel still be possible post-Ending? (will Tali or Wrex or Garrus see their homeworlds again? Will everyone starve?)
Galactic civilization will rebuild. The mass relays were not necessary for interstellar flight. Remember, what does it say in the Codex about the speed of ships? That's right, 12 lightyears per (day? hour?

Dear everyone, PLEASE READI have a good friend on dA who's being horribly mistreated because of who she is. She lives in Kuwait, where being LGBT is illegal and because of some crazy laws and some crazy people, she is forced to suffer because she's transgendered. A lot of her friends, including me, aim to stop the terribly sickening ways the LGBT community is being treated in Kuwait. She recently wrote a journal about a religious doctor who physically abused her and traumatized her because being trans is a crime where she lives. She thought she was going to die. This guy was allowed to do this because of primitive laws in Kuwait that make this kind of repulsive, inhumane activity legal. Believe me when I say Kuwait has stripped her of her basic human rights. She is so afraid. Please everybody, spread her journal around so that we can help stop these terrible, disgusting people from continuing to do such evil things to your fellow humans. The journal is unbelievably appalling. Her journal: http://pinkbluebibliofDear everyone, PLEASE READ3 years ago in Personal More Like This
