A young turian leans against the wall, eyes constantly performing a tactical sweep. His black and blue armor gives off a small sheen from the overhead lights. A green targeting visor rests on the right side of his face. He turns his head to one side, "Cassie, you almost ready?"
A voice comes from within a large mass of wires and cables. "Will you stop nagging, Gabe? This isn't as easy as it looks. I'm having trouble finding the right connection. If I pick the wrong one, I could shut off the artificial gravity….or worse, life support."
Gabriel Vakarian sighs to himself, "Hillary? What's Aya's status?"

The land stretching away before him, a white spotlight shinning down below. The screams of so many pouring into his ear. Kaycee drapes her arm over her daughter's shoulders. She can scarcely believe how quickly she's grown up. Little Syren Shepard opens her eyes sleepily, gently rubbing the sleep from them. She glances around her room, the pale orange light of the sunrise peaking through her curtains. She carefully hops off her bed, wrapping her blanket around her shoulders from the cold, and picks up her teddy bear, Athena. Syren shuffles over to the curtains and peeks around them, standing on tiptoe to see over the window sill. A small gasp escapes from her, followed by a quiet giggle. White, as far as the eye can see, the entire countryside covered in a thick blanket of snow. Realizing that it's Christmas morning, Syren quietly shuffles out of her bedroom, moving one door down on the right, "Aya? You awake?"
Her big sister is sitting in her bed, reading a holo-comic, clad in red sweatpants and sweatshirt. She looks up at Syren, "Well, good morning and merry christmas Sy."

The grieving doctor doesn't bother with an umbrella, instead letting the rain wash over her skin, mixing with her tears. She begins her slow walk towards the large group of people crowded underneath a wide awning, when suddenly a hand grips her shoulder reassuringly, and the rain stops. Looking over her shoulder, she finds Garrus holding an umbrella over her, his expression unreadable. He nods to her, his grip speaking volumes as he guides her towards the crowd. As they near the group, Liara notices that nearly everyone has shown up today.

**EDIT** Holy crap this got way more attention than I was expecting. The comments and support have been amazing everyone!
A few points: Credit where credit is due; this ending, as much as everyone seems to love it, was only created because the amazing team at Bioware created a universe that was so rich and full of life and detail. As much as I know a lot of fans are hurt by what they did, we need to remember that Bioware still created an incredible trilogy, one of the best ever. So hats off to them all round.

It was very quiet. The gunfire had died down. There were no mechanical roars. It was beautiful but frightening at the same time. When the red energy erupted from the Citadel, it caused every reaper to fall over and die. Their corpses littered earth's surface and her orbit. Despite the war, earth was in relatively good shape. Major city centres were destroyed, but some remained as well as hundreds, if not thousands, of smaller cities, towns and factory districts that remained fairly intact.
