Today was the reaping. A crucial moment in every careers life. You volunteer when you feel ready, when you feel you can make it out alive. My parents didn't know I would be volunteering today. I had trained for the moment since the age of 5, and I knew I was ready. Suddenly, there was a knock on the doorframe of my opened front door. I look up to see my best friend, (AND biggest crush), Cato's masculine face smiling at me from the doorway. Cato and I had been close ever since we were paired up together for training when we were younger.
"Hi Cato," I said with a smile. Cato walks into the house, grinning broadly.
"Hey, Clover." He teased. He always had teased me about my name, and ever since, that nick-name had developed. "Think fast!" We had both been trained to always be aware of our surroundings, always on our toes, so I didn't need the warning to see hi

Chapter 21: The Last Rescue
Did I feel betrayed? A little. It's not as if I knew Alec. He was just Gale's annoying assistant. There was bound to be a traitor in that huge underground district. I guess I had just not expected someone so high up.
But betrayal is nothing compared to the dread that consumes me.We had all noticed a far greater problem the second the hovercraft doors had shut. Samantha is not here. None of the families are here. Not only had we been betrayed, but tricked as well, and now we are headed back into those horrid Games again, all the while our families lie hidden somewhere in the Capitol scared and alone and still very much in belief that we are dead. Soon they will be right.
This is exactly what I should have expected.
They had placed us all in different cell rooms down different hallways. Each were sealed with thick clear glass, most likely sound proof, as it was silent except for the sound of my own erratic breathing. Hours go by. Horrible, quiet h

Chapter 27: Crumbling
I hold onto Rue tightly and just before I pull away I hear a trembling voice behind me. It is so strained that it is hard to make out who it belongs to. But I instantly know who it is.
"K-Katniss?" I turn around to see those familiar crystal blue eyes and golden blonde hair. Peeta. I study his face in disbelief. He's obviously been crying because his face is bright red and his eyes are all puffy. Before I can even react, I feel his warm arms engulfing my body in a strong hug. I stand there, breathless.
"I-I thought you were dead..." He says, trembling. "I was so worried. I-"
I interrupt him mid-sentence with a kiss. Until now, I've never meant it when I kissed him. It was never this...real. But now I know how I really feel about him. I know that I need him. I look him in the eyes then whisper in his ear so faintly that my voiced could've been mistaken for a gust of wind. But I know that he heard. He heard those little words that mean so much.
.:Clato fanfic:. chapter 5 I woke up in the morning, finding that we had arrived at the capital. There were people cheering for us from the point when we stepped of the train, to when we got to our building. Cato and I were pulled away from each other once again and put into different rooms. They sent in our stylists to begin "beautifying" us. They pulled at my hair and waxed every inch of hair off me. I didn't know why it was so important for me to look pretty when I would be killing people, but I went with it. They applied a fair amount of make-up onto me, making me seem more tan and my eyes brighter. My hair was weaved into an intricate braid that let out at my back, falling to perfect ringlets. I had never felt more beautiful. When we were reunited, Cato and I took a few minutes to just marvel at each other..:Clato fanfic:. chapter 52 years ago in Introductions & Chapters More Like This

Chapter 18: Hostage
After a few hours, the excitement of Finnick Odair and Carver Jourdaire's arrival generally died down. Clove looks the happiest I have ever seen her, as well as every girl in District 13.
Once the two generals had arrived, it was hard to find them without every girl in 13 staring at them. I understand that they are very good looking, more so than most, but I would have to get to know them before I trusted either of them. Naturally, I have mistrust for almost everyone I meet, so a pretty face and a charming attitude wouldn't win me over.
Like every day for the past week, I mechanically follow the usual routine of getting up, and following the schedule printed on my arm. Ever since the first day, it has been as such: breakfast, training, reflection, training, lunch, intense workout, Education (on following orders), more training, dinner, bathing, lights out.
In my case, training meant doing what everyone else was doing, only with one arm.The trainer didn

Chapter19: A Plan
My eyes feel like they are glued shut. At first it seems like it is physically impossible for me to open them, but soon I have managed to pry them apart.
I'm in a different room then before. I try to sit up to get a better look, but find that impossible. Every single muscle feels like they have a dead weight on them. I feel exactly like I did the first day I woke up after the arena; drowsy, confused, and in pain. Only now the pain is dull, and instead of waking up with a bloodied stump, a shiny new arm has taken its place.
I manage to lift my head to get a better look at it. It's my skin tone, a bit tan, even with detailed freckles,. The detail was incredible. All the lines and wrinkles of my knuckles showed, I even had nails.
I touch it with my left hand. I am surprised at the texture. I thought it would feel like metal, however, as I touch it I feel a texture like soft rubber, almost human like. Amazed, I try to move it, however it remains as lifeless

Chapter 22: Alone and Afraid
Trying to go to sleep was impossible. Gimpy above me wouldn't stop making insubordinate sobbing noises, her metal arm clattering against the sides of the bed as she twisted and curled amongst the covers, wincing and moaning in her sleep.
Honestly, she needs get over it. I'm not even sure who she wanted back so badly, but they couldn't be that important. I wanted to shove a rag in her mouth so I could get some sleep, but that new arm of hers made me uneasy. I saw her burn a hole through a guy with a simple flick of a wrist. I'm sure I could take her out anyway, but I am far too tired and uncaring to bother.
I finally give up and make my way to Cato's room. Hopefully Neanderthal is a heavy sleeper. Maybe I'll be lucky and find that he has gone over to Clove's room for tonight. Do they do that? I don't really know if they're sleeping together yet, or at all. Hm. Shame. The only time the kid might ever get laid, and it's got to be with that whor

Chapter 28: Voices and Rats
We walk in silence through the rest of the tunnels. Gale leads ahead with a map in hand while Cato lags behind. Every few seconds Cato looks up at the ceiling, expecting it to collapse again.
When the tunnels had collapsed earlier, Gale, Cato, and I were separated completely from the rest of the group. Unfortunately, now we must have to find a new route to the surface, but even with the map, twists, turns, and cave-ins lead us to dead ends.
Gale stops at a fork in the tunnels; I shine my light on his map for better view.
"The path on the right should lead us directly to the surface-"
"Shh! Did you hear that?" Cato suddenly interjects.
Our eyes fly up to the ceiling.
"No, it's coming from the tunnel on the right. It's like a hiss or something," he whispers.
I listen carefully, hearing the noise he had insinuated. It sounds much like a reptilian hissing, though eerily human at the same time.
"Left tunnel, now," Gale says urgently.

"Jason " I whispered, trying to keep the tears that were forming in my eyes at bay. Why couldn't he see? Why couldn't he understand ? "I told you because I felt guilty about it. You can't understand how much I love you, and how many times I wanted to tell you, but ...." But I just couldn't bring myself to do it Not because I was ashamed; not because I wanted to keep it all bottled up But because I was afraid it would hurt him in the end. I had never told anyone about my past before for fear that it might ricochet right back at me and become a burden to whoever I told. Because I was frightened that if Gregory d'Quincy was ever out of jail, he would kill whoever knew my secret I didn't tell him because I didn't want to hurt him ... Not because I'm a malicious person. Harming someone is actually the last thing on my mind.

Chapter 25: The Beginning of the End
I see my father fall, he had tried to cover my mother, but she falls too, back into nothingness. I hear two cannons. I look for the killer, and find the peacekeeper. Without hesitation, I lift up my arm, ready to fire, but he holds something, no, someone. Samantha, small and struggling, with a gun pressed to her temple. Time stands still, the only movement is the icy flakes swirling lightly down from the dark grey clouds.
"Make any move, and she joins your parents" the man says, but it is not his voice. It is President Snow's: as bitter and cold as the ice all around. He begins to laugh, his laughter like that of shattering glass, and then they are gone. I am buried by snow and echoing laughter.
I sit up quickly in my bed, and hit my head on the ceiling. I breathe hard in a cold sweat. I shake my head trying to push the dream from my mind. I've had it almost every night now. But I can't dwell on it, or else my thoughts go to dar

Beeeeep! Beeeeep! Beeeeep!
"You have got to be kidding me!" I hear Eleanor shriek. Suddenly, I see a pillow fly towards the alarm, though it continues its harsh blare. The lights switch on as they have every day for the past two weeks.
Instead of getting up, I just lie still, staring up at the ceiling. The tears that drenched me last night do not appear. It's as if my eyes have completely dried up. Sorrow is replaced with a hollow feeling, as if a hole is gaping through my chest. And I know exactly what is missing, or rather, who.
Samantha consumes my thoughts. I miss her more and more every day. She didn't have the red hair like my mother and I, but shared the same brown waves of my father. Her eyes, like mine, were green, but had flecks of yellow, almost like sparks.
Before my parents died, she was just my sister, but the more I took care of her, the more she became like my own child. My own child that was ripped away from me.

"Carver, what are you even doing here?"
My brother laughs as we walk down the hall, Alec in the lead with Finnick only a few paces behind, followed by my brother and I, and Marvel trailing at our heels. The trainer had been eager to let Marvel and I leave a bit early upon seeing Carver's big shiny General's suit, and had not uttered another sound as we left, Marvel clicking along as I clung to the massive arm of my older sibling.
"What I told you I was doing three months ago," Carver starts, "A mission in Six, and then straight back to my baby sister." He rustles my hair, shuffling the black strands through his muscled fingers. He doesn't look much different since the last time I saw him all those weeks and weeks ago, though a few bags have formed under his eyes, making him seem a bit older. "You didn't think I seriously wasn't coming back to my favorite girl, did you?

"Happy Hunger Games!" She cried, her bright orange hair shining brightly in the sun. Everyone stared up at her, expressionless. She cleared her throat and nodded, showing us the clip from the capital, explaining the games. I had butterflies in my stomach. I wasn't sure whether or not I should volunteer. I stand, staring at the mirror. The person staring back is not me.The weak, small, starving girl from District five is no more. A stronger, scarier girl takes her place. Firm muscles replace skin and bone, a determined scowl holds the front where frightened eyes once lay. My features are the same: red hair, green eyes, freckles everywhere; but I am not the same person.
Two weeks have passed since the other tributes received their weapons. Two weeks of training; from 5:00 in the morning, to10:00 at night. The training, in no other words to put it, was hell.
Workout drills, weapons practice, lectures on tactics. From running five miles everyday, to assembling a gun under a minute, to cramming hundreds of military terms and tactics in our brains. Hope. Just a tiny glimmer of it sparks in each of us now that we have a plan, an extremely dangerous plan. But it's enough to take away some of the dread that has been filling our hearts since the announcement. And I would finally see Prim once again.
But there is one thing I have to do before this all begins. I have to tell Rue that her whole family has been captured by the Capitol, and that she might die.
I walk slowly to her room, dreading the news I bring. The doctors had told me that she had been improving greatly, but she still shouldn't be moving around too much. This worries me. All of the tributes would be required if this were to work, and Rue was no exception.
I pull back the curtain to find her sitting up in a sterile white bed. "Rue-" I begin.

Peeta guides me down the bleak hallway and to the hospital-I knew that I didn't have the strength to manage this alone. He pushes open the door and lets me through. I take a deep breath and walk forward calmly. "Hey Rue." I say gently, laying a hand on the little girl's shoulder.
"How are you feeling?" She shifts slightly and smiles that familiar glowing grin. "I am alive. I know that I can get better, I'll try really hard." I draw closer to her and hug her gently. She's so much like Prim. It makes me miss her. I wonder when I'll see her again.
"I'll be here every step of the way." Rue smiles even brighter at this. "You're the older sister I've always wanted."
Not sure of how to respond, I shift back slightly. Unfortunately, I am unaware of the fact that Peeta is directly behind me. I accidentally send him staggering back into a cabinet, and he manages to knock the cabinet over, spilling all the chemicals that were stored within. A nurse

My voice is shaking too. What an awful lie, I know there is a slim chance she'll live when I cut her head open in place of the dent. Darkness, you know, is relative.
To Cato, stumbling around, alone and enveloped in night in the middle of the arena, it was certainly far darker than it had been the previous night. The trees and their branches seemed to reach out, snatching at his jacket viciously, trying to pull him back as the wind screamed around him, whipping his face and making him gasp out loud as he pulled forwards. He didn't know where he was going, or why he had to keep moving but that didn't seem to matter. His feet just kept on moving, hammering the stones beneath them until he could feel the blood stinging on the soles of his feet.

The bench felt cold beneath Cas, something he had still not become accustomed to; the little subtleties forever making him feel more and more Human. Chills, fever, the beating of his heart. Surely he still obtained many of his angelic qualities, but it seemed that the longer he spent on Earth, the more sensitive he became.
Still, Castiel was almost glad for the reprieve of feeling. He had become so numb, so.. empty.
He felt the vibration in his pocket, let he hand wander to his small cell, pull it up to his ear.
