Guided Meditation -
Shepard and Thane
The captain's quarters are far off from the engineering deck, but I can still hear the hum of the engines if I shut the music off and listen to the quiet. Most nights, it's enough to get me to sleep.
I'll lay back and watch the stars crawl by through the skylight, or watch the fish flit around in their tanks. Slowly, it becomes harder and harder to keep my eyes open. I'll roll over so the glow of the fish tank doesn't penetrate the darkness behind my closed eyes as I drift off to sleep.
The darkness is overwhelming. If I squint really, really hard I can just barely make out the pinpricks of distant stars. But it's so hard to keep my eyes open. I'm cold. Freezing cold, so cold I feel like my bones will implode and my skin will tear as it shrivels and tightens and I open my mouth to scream.
I can't. I open my mouth, try to

"That's easy for you to say, party boy. I've been a little busy fighting the galaxy's deadliest enemies. There's not a lot of time to dance when you're zooming around space. Not much shore leave. And anyway, dancing isn't important. I can shoot the head off a Geth from 200 yards away. So what if I don't have any rhythm?" He laughed and rose from the chair where he had been watching her.
"Everyone knows what you can do with a gun, Lola. And that's all well and good. But you need to relax, belleza. You can't run around killing things all the time. Sometimes a person has to blow off some steam, or just forget about the chaos for a while. Besides, you're the one who asked me to teach you to dance, remember?" She sighed and nodded her head.
"You're right. Sorry. It's just not something I've ever had the need to do before. But the crew dese

The porch floorboards were warm beneath Shepard’s bare feet, absorbing the heat of the morning sun.
Their vacation plans take them to a beautiful resort world with especially private accommodations. There’s no one around for miles. Around their small oasis cabana, the desert sand stretches endlessly beneath a clear sky - a breathtaking and serene landscape.
Shepard stands on the deck, shaded by canvas stretched over sturdy wooden supports. The view from here is much better, she thinks, although the landscape is of little consequence. It’s a different view entirely that she’s admiring.
Stretched out on the pale yellow sand is Thane, slowly arcing from one fluid curve into another as he stretches before his morning routine. His nylon and leather ensemble is long forgotten and packed away in their room, and the only thing adorning his athletic body is a pair of tight black shorts.
He gives no indication

Thane can sense her discomfort when she briefs the team on the mission. A derelict reaper.
She has more experience with reapers than he, and her unease reflects on him. Carefully, she explains that she’s chosen only her most reliable crew members for this mission: himself and Garrus.
“Reapers have this effect called indoctrination,” Shepard continues. “I won’t get into the details but basically the more time we spend inside that thing, the more pull it has on our minds. We need to get in and get what we need as quickly as possible.”

For three days he'd hardly slept. For three days he'd paced the lobby of Huerta Memorial. For three days his dark, brooding face had made every other visitor (and most of the nurses) steer well clear of him. For three days he'd haunted the space outside her room, staring through the glass door until he was forced to leave. For three days he'd begged to be let in to see her. For three days he'd been denied, turned away, and brushed off. On the fourth day, Admiral Hackett arrived and ordered him to vacate the premises, promising he would get a call when the situation changed. On the fourth day, he begrudgingly left the hospital and returned to his room on the Citadel. On the fourth day, he collapsed on his bed and slept for two. On the seventh day, he awoke from a nightmare, watching her blown back by the Reaper's powerful beam and not get up again.

"Javik, I'm going now."
Liara was dressed for a night out of the house. Her outfit was simple. It did not show excess skin, contrary to the popular style of the day, but the wine colored cloth fit snugly against her body. Javik stood defiantly in the middle of the room, his hand balled into a fist to keep it from reaching out and running along the curve of her hip.
He would treat this like any other battle. And he refused to show weakness.
"This is a pointless activity," he said firmly.
In his own cycle, people would back down when he used that voice. But Liara only fought back harder. She stood just out of his reach, placing her own hands on her hips. "Shepard and Tali will be here for only a few more days, and Tali needs to relax. This is her first night out without her family since the baby came." Her voice was calm and quiet, using the same tone she used when explaining something to their children.
Javik stole a quick glance behind him at the two girls playing happily tog

She arrives on an humble civilian transport to Kahje, alone, choosing to wait in customs with the rest of the passengers. Normal, just like everyone else.
Today is a day for mourning, for remembering, for honoring the lost. She stands on the rainy shores where his last rites were spoken, her desert willow flowers looking wilted from their long journey.
It's been six years since he passed. She's almost glad there is no headstone, no ashes, nothing for her to see except endless grey ocean. If there were anything left of him, if she should see him now, all the scars on her heart would be torn anew. Yes, what he said was right. Time has eased the memory of his passing. She has no tears now, not after so long, not after so many exhausting spent nights weeping at the loss of his warmth. But her heart is sore, and she will never forget the first man she truly loved.

Her eyes are as wide as saucers.
There’s nothing but the sound of the sea, the pattering of rain against sand and the static curtain that pops and zips quietly beneath each falling drop.
Eventually, she stands.

When they finally meet again after so long, the whole world seems to sigh with gratitude.
There isn't much to say, and even if there were, the right words do not exist. They hold each other and the chaos around them drifts away like smoke on the wind. For a moment, they forget about his illness, about the war. A shroud of hope settles around them. Everything is going to be okay.
In the depths of her mind she knows the sea will call him away far too soon. They have very little time left. But it all seems so distant when she crawls beneath the sheets with him. Their lips meet and she drinks him in. The memory of how he tastes will be as fleeting as this very moment, but why should that matter? Simple, irrefutable truths slip like sand through her fingers. They can change nothing. There isn't anything more to do except love and be loved.
And she loves him. She doesn't know why she's never told him, so she tells him now. The feeling is so true and powerful

Why Miranda had called him, Liara, and Kaidan up here was beyond him, but she insisted it had to do with Shepard. Didn't it always? Shepard had been dead after she took control of the Reapers. Life moved on without her, but the friends she left behind still missed her.

Tanya Shepard sat in the empty, dim mess hall teeming with lonely company. Tanya was an average woman in her late twenties. She had medium length, raven black hair that fell in several tresses about her head. A pair of astute, sapphire blue eyes peered out to take in the world around her. Her mouth, a little bit wider then a standard female mouth, was home to a commanding voice and an authoritative tone but also to a warm and empathetic manner of speech and a helpful, nurturing dialect. Her nose was the one part of her face that was different from the rest of her. It lacked a tip to it, an old war wound from the Skyillian Blitz. A Bartarian go

My name is Captain Xora Lee Patrone. Some people refer to me as "Z," I don't know why. I think they are doing it to irritate me, which it usually does. A friend of mine asked me to start sharing my story. They said, "You should write a book about what happened. People will want to read it." Personally, I wanted to avoid it as much as possible. Yet here I am about to share the turning point in my life of choices, of defeat, and of love. There's a lot you need to know about me first - like my past, my ship, and my crew. But most importantly, I need to explain my burning hatred for biotics. So let's get started.

It was odd, how quickly she'd adapted to having aliens around. On her crew, even. She hadn't dealt with other races much before this little jaunt, and initially she had been a bit nervous. After all they'd actually fought the turians, so working with Nihilus had been a bit awkward at first. But he had seemed dedicated to his job, and he'd died doing it. That earned him a lot of points in her book.
A turian, a quarian and a krogan walk into a starship-- She grinned to herself.
At least they seemed to get along. She'd had some concern about that at first; they all seemed so different.
Tali seemed the most easy-going of the lot. Not a lot was known about the quarians, even what they looked like. She was obviously intelligent, and so far showed the kind of moral traits that Shepard aspired to. That revelation about the geth disturbed her, though. Reminded her of that old

'Twas the night before the reapers came, and all through the land,
the people wanted Shepard back in command.
The rifles were strapped to their holsters with care,
while thinking of gunshots flying through the air.
The husks were skewered all snug on their spikes,
with visions of devouring cute human tykes.
Garrus in his turtle shell, and Joker in his cap,
Had hustled poor James in poker, the poor noobie sap.
When down on Earth there arose such a clatter,
Shepard leapt into action to put an end to the matter.
Down to the Normandy he ran oh so very fast,
and thought of the decisions he had made in the past.
The moon was one of the first places to go,
and the civilians could do little but cry "where'd it go?"
When, what do my wondering eyes should appear,
but a big badass Krogan drinking a couple of beers.

I knew in a moment Wrex had asses to kick.

She blinked in surprise and lifted a hand. "Hi, Wrex. Something you need?"
Wrex entered her room, striding slowly, powerful muscles twitching under his clothing, crest reflecting the dim of the lights. For once he wasn't wearing his armor, and didn't appear to be carrying any weapons. He looked strangely vulnerable, well, he would have if he was anything but a Krogan. He didn't bother to reply to her question, and paused next to her desk as the doors to her room slid closed with a vacant beep.
There was silence as the two stared at each other. The dark of Shepards room was a relief from the
