I've thought long and hard and have decided to change it toooooo.......
That's right; i'm one of the few artists here on DA that seems content with my name. That; and I think changing a "brand" simply because you can, after you've spent time and energy building up an audience is f**king stupid.
I've been here for years. I've operated on the internet under "jollyjack" for longer. If I changed that now it would be monumentally confusing to people that follow my work, which, in turn, would have an effect on revenue.
There are a ton of artists here whose work I keenly follow, and I think they're kinda shooting themselves in the foot by doing this.
Kinda reminds be of those little label-making things everyone's been given on at least one Christmas as a kid: you unwrap it, you find out what it does and you spend the rest of the day punching out new tags for everything. Even if they'
The Turtles TrailerI am absolutely delighted with it. It’s everything I hoped it would be: Terrible. The Turtles Trailer10 months ago in Personal More Like This
Had it looked GOOD, there would have been this nagging feeling that I’d be missing out on something if I stuck to my vow of never again watching another Michael Bay movie. I have fond childhood memories of the Turtles, so I may have weakened. But because it looks like, well, a Michael Bay movie, that feeling simply isn’t there. I have no desire, at all, to pay for or sit through that film.
Transformers 3 was the last chance I was willing to give. I thought “There’s no way it could actually be WORSE than Transformers 2. I’ll give it a shot”.
Somehow…. it was.
That was it. That was the breaking point. No more Bay. EVERYTHING he goes near is pure effluent, and all the evidence you need of how toxic a film Turtles is going to be is in that trailer.
Obviously, we don’t know what the plot is at this point, but it’s a

A relative got a message through the door over Christmas. It was an envelope containing what looked like a page torn out of a magazine. The recipient's name was hand-written on the page as part of a note, singing the praises of the product, how they had tried it, etc. The whole thing was a fake, a very, very clever one, perhaps obvious to the more media-savvy out there, but it caused said relative a bit of head-scratching.
A less obvious ad which has come to my attention is a viral video. It's a montage of CCTV footage that captures a number of people being nice to one another. Hugs, kisses, people helping one another. It'd be a great feel-good clip if it weren't for the fact it's a viral for Coke that plays on your emotions in an effort to peddle their sugar-laced-discharge: http:/

M$ are, naturally, trying to pat themselves on the back for this U-Turn, and some people are actually praising them for "listening to consumers".
No. Just, no.
You don't get to pat yourself on the back for having so much money that you can buy your way out of a complete and utter cluster-f**k. You only get to do that when you use common f**king sense and get it right first time. You spend enough bloody money it! There's no excuse!

EDIT: Thanks for the info on reindeer gender-antler technicalities. I did learn this in my teens, but I just kind of enjoy drawing the deer as white-tails like I did as a kid. I know it's incorrect, but the nostalgia factor is more fun for me. Merry Christmas fellow biology nerds!
When I was would little, my obsessive love for Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer would inspire me to draw Santa's eight reindeer to string together for Christmas decorations around the house. Even as a kid, I wanted some of the reindeer to be girls (it only seemed fair) and Dancer, Vixen and Cupid where always featured without antlers to show Santa didn't discriminate against the does!
So here's sweet-natured Cupid to wish you Happy Holidays! Have a wonderful day, everyone!
The legends were true?!Geek culture has many myths and legends, ranging from fabled disks and cassettes containing unreleased sequels of beloved games to Easter Eggs found only within the code of early versions of certain titles. The legends were true?!9 months ago in Personal More Like This
The most well known of these legends, the Holy Grail, the Ark of the Covenant, The Excalibur of Geek mythology, is that of the lost E.T. Cartridges – arguably the worst video game in history - buried somewhere in the New Mexico desert.
Now, they’ve been hiding unwanted stuff out in the deserts of America as far back as 1923. When filming finished on Cecil B. DeMille’s The Ten Commandments, they worked out it’d be cheaper to just bury the set than dismantle it. This lent the E.T. Cart legend a little credibility, but even I was skeptical of anything ever being found….

One dead console. My XBox 360 died last night.......again.One dead console.3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I was merrily replaying Modern Warfare 3 and was on the final mission when the screen went funky. Now, this happened 3 or 4 years ago, so I knew what was going to happen; I turned the console off in the hope that a reset would solve the funky-screen issue, but rather than a clear image - I get no image at all.
It's a known problem, especially with the first generation of 360 machines and as mine is a "Launch Team" version (If you worked for M$ at the time, they gave you a special edition one with green plating) it certainly falls into that category.
Something to do with the cheap, shoddy soldering used by M$.
Looks like I'll be better off just replacing it with one of the new streamline models, which is a shame, because last time I got my current one repaired I also had it pimped out with these awesome green internal running lights that made it look nuclear-powered or something

Tomb RaidedCompleted Tomb Raider. It does become slightly more player-friendly as it progresses, but it's too little too late. I really do think this title is made up of EVERYTHING that is wrong with games at the moment: it rides on an old title that it really has nothing to do with, it leads you round by the nose, it relies on dull collectable items for longevity, it thinks "maturity" means everything must be caked in gore, it's wracked through with quick-time-events and it ignores that ALL of these points have been failings of a zillion other titles over the last 10 years, leaving the developers no reason other that sheer lack of talent, imagination or common sense for their inclusion!!Tomb Raided2 years ago in Personal More Like This

DC puss out. While at my local comic-book emporium, I had a quick leaf through Harley Quinn #0 to check out the winning page from DC’s recent talent search.DC puss out.1 year ago in Personal More Like This
It didn’t do much to dampen the disdain I harbour for the big-name comic companies.
For a start, I’m not sure how that page was selected as the cream of the crop. Bravo to the artist for being selected, sure, but there were far more dynamic, lively examples I saw posted here on DA, and I'm genuinely surprised that none of them were chosen. The page selected feels just as stiff, stagnant, sterile and devoid of life as much of the other stuff DC discharges onto the shelves (which might have been why they ran with it).
The main gripe I have, though, is that they changed the final panel.
For those that (somehow) missed the whoo-haa that the whole talent search kicked off: the script DC provided to their would-be artists called for illustrations depicting the titular Harley trying to off herself in a series of absurd ways: holding

Just because you have the ability to create a group; it doesn't mean you NEED to!
What is the point in creating a group that has no specific purpose when you're already on DevArt?!
"Oh, I'll create a group that will show any kind of photo"
Why create such a group when you can just hit "photography" on the DevArt front page?
"I'll create a group that'll display the work of anyone that wants to draw attention to their art"
Why create a group for that when it's already DevArt's PRIMARY PURPOSE?!

No more or less stupid than any Japanese cartoon, so if you like that kind of thing, you'll enjoy this.
Actually does large scale destructive combat really well, in that you can see what's going on, unlike, say, Transformers 3: Bay did it again, and we let him, in which the action was just a really expensive screen of indecipherable, boring, joyless white noise.
I chose to watch this over Monsters University because, regardless of how much of their trademark genius Pixar pump into it: it will always look like some cheap, crappy, lazy, "Monsters Inc Kids", Animal House parody. As such, it sparks no curiousity in me at all. Only buckets of revulsion.

I don’t know a huge amount about the “New 52” take on the DC universe (I stopped paying attention to DC’s output when they changed their logo to look like a half-unwrapped Acme magnet) but if the Justice League: War animation is any kind of summary, I’m glad I’ve not wasted my time.
Batman now seems to think it’s impolite if he doesn’t tell everyone who he is, Wonder Woman has taken to talking like a really, really bad Shakespearean actor and Superman is a dick.
Ignoring the animation’s terrible narrative, what struck me like a rancid kipper in the face was how god-awful the character designs were. In this instance; particularly Darkseid’s. Yeah, he wore a bucket on his head in the past, but it worked! It added to his menace as a laser-firing brick of doom. You took one look at him and you knew who he was.
Watch Superman/Batman: Apocalypse. THAT version of Darkseid is an ic

Google bought Boston Dynamics a little while back. Their robotic technology has clear applications, both industrial and domestic (though they’ll want to make that stuff look a little less underwear-soilingly scary for the latter), so this is a good corporate move.
It’s been all over the news that Facebook has “pulled a Google” and purchased Oculus Rift, which, in contrast to the Boston Dynamics acquisition, has me scratching my head. We knew 20 years ago that this was dead end tech. The practical applications of wearing a bucket on your head are extremely limited. It’s right up there with motion control. If it w

Penchant for detonating sparking, explody things aside, they're not at all similar.
One is about a nation celebrating its independence (or the defeat of alien invaders, depending how strong your grip is on reality) the other is basically a nation trolling terrorists, rubbing their faces in failure.
That the thwarting of the November 5th gunpowder plot is remembered is arguably one of the two reasons why the Brits are universally unafraid of terrorism (the second being that Fair Blighty has faced down the largest war machines the world has ever seen. A random yahoo that wants to blow himself up is an irritant by comparison). You leave the nations of the UK alone and they fight among themselves in a 600mile long drunken brawl. However, if an outside force so much as prods them with a stick in a manner that they find remotely unpleasant, they unify

Let's just go over what I posted yesterday: I voiced that I have no opinion on guns in America, because I don't live there and as such; don't care. I said that I, personally, am afraid of guns and think they're industrial killing machines. And I posed a vague, hypothetical question that could have been applied to any situation where an old law/doctrine is in effect.
That's it. Nothing more. Harshest word in there was "change" followed by a question mark. Not "ban", not "make guns illegal" and certainly not "outlaw free speech and trial by jury", which some people with a slightly looser grasp on reality seem to think go hand in hand with owning the firearms I said I don't care about.
Well, today, I am going to post an opinion: if you're the kind of insecure, paranoid little twit that flies off the handle when someone poses a simple question, and who holds weapons and the laws that permit them with such religious reverence that you perceive that question as not
Disney closes LucasArtsF**k you, Disney. F**k you.Disney closes LucasArts2 years ago in Personal More Like This
If you are not angered by this news, you're obviously a very young gamer and probably (rightly) see LucasArts as nothing more than a mediocre-Star-Wars-title-discharging-sewer-pipe.
Disney bought LucasFilm because of the Star Wars cash-cow, but the number of classic IPs produced by LucasArts throughout the 90s makes the descision to close it rather than attempt to return to the studio to its glory days pretty staggering.
I actually see way more potential in LucasArts IPs than Star Wars.....but then, so would anyone with even the most stunted of creative minds.
Disney obviously still own all the properties, but the LucasArts brand is gone, and it's the end of an era, even if they start picking at the corpse for ideas to ruin.

Sherlock vs ElementaryThe concept of taking the world's greatest detective out of his Victorian era setting and dropping him into 21st Century London shouldn't have worked. It should have failed as miserably as I thought it would.Sherlock vs Elementary3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Hooooo. Was I proven wrong on that one.
The scant six episodes of Sherlock contain some of the best material the BBC has ever produced and proved that the detective can work his deductive wizardry in any time period.
Which is probably why CBS have gone all Chinese and are ripping it off.
When I heard that there was going to be an "American version" of the show; the eye twitched but didn't bat. This happens, and often HAS to happen. A show must fit with the scheduling, and US series are a lot longer than those on British TV, so things have to be stretched.
THEN I learned that it's NOT a remake of BBC's Sherlock, but a brand new series called "Elementary", which is "radically" different because it's set in New York.
Unsurprisingly, the Beeb are a bit miffed by this.
In this, wholly
