The metal forced the air from his lungs as he was dropped. A heavily booted foot shoved against his back and he was suddenly sliding, his body twisting and rolling uncontrollably. There was nothing for his bare feet to grip to slow his descent and his cry of pain echoing close around him as an exposed rivet gouged into his calf. With his hands bound behind his back there was no way he could brace him as his uncontrolled descent came to an abrupt halt when his shoulder slammed painfully into the bottom of the pit Dick Grayson now found himself at the bottom of.
He groaned at the flare of pain, and looked back up the way he had fallen. Corrugated metal sides surrounded him and the thick ripple-like surface pressed into his back. Half of a large metal door was swinging into place twenty feet over his head and beyond that he could several feet of soil and stone above that.
Dick felt the thread of fear and swallowed the rising panic. But seeing the interior

It's never a good thing when the Big Bads team up.
Joker is bad enough; unpredictable and psychotic with extreme homicidal tendencies. Go up against him and a person was almost guaranteed to go home bleeding. Add in Two-Face to the mix and you've got a hell of a lot higher chance of not going home at all.
Batman was lucky, this time. It seemed that once again 'evil' proved unable to work with 'evil'. Two-Face didn't like Joker's inability to follow through with a plan. Joker got fed up with Harvey's lucky coin. By the time Batman had shown up, they had taken out more than half of the other's goons and thugs in a bloody massacre.
He jumped into the fray and in less than an hour he was securing the cuffs to an unconscious Joker's wrists. He could already hear the sirens approaching and doubted anyone was leaving the hideout without medical attention. Including him.
The body armor had taken most of it, but Joker had managed to slip a knife into the seam of

It was the vile taste of rancid leftovers that finally chased the last vestiges of unconsciousness from him mind. Thirteen year old Robin forced his eyes open and regretted it instantly when the all-too-familiar, pulsating pounding threatened to split his skull. 'Damn it, why am I the one who always ends up getting chloroformed," he complained internally, attempting to massage the headache that was centralized behind his temples. Except his hands wouldn't move; that was when he realized how he was laying.
On his side, with his hands unable to be moved from behind him.
It was always disconcerting, being kidnapped when he was Dick Grayson. If he had been Robin he could have fought back, but as the adopted son of billionaire Bruce Wayne he knows only the rudimentary basics of self defense; easily overpowered by someone determined enough. Especially if his abductor was armed with chloroform soaked rags and rendered him unconscious. Which left him helpless to whatever means of containment w

The crowd was thin, maybe a few dozen people, but it was enough for the drone of voice to fill the gymnasium. The bleachers were all but empty of spectators, only a few parents and chaperones willing to brave the cold snap that Gotham City awoke to on the first Saturday of December. The cold that could be felt every time the door opened and a draft came in from the corridor.
Like the one that gusted across the back of thirteen year old Dick Grayson. He shivered momentarily where he stood and startled at the heavy hand that fell onto his shoulder.
"Good luck, Dick!"
With a wide smile on his face, thirteen year old Dick Grayson spun around. "Bruce! You came?"
"Of course," His guardian exclaimed, removing his designer leather gloves with a flourish. "I wouldn't miss one of your little math-things for anything!"

Author's Note: A while back, I held a poll on which RiD one-shot I would write next. This one came in 4th on Deviant Art with 13% of the vote and 3rd on with 14% of the vote. I've tried to write the others before it, but they weren't cooperating so here we are!
This has been a nibble in my mind for a while now and I think I've broken through my writer's block enough to get this out. I hope it meets my expectations as well as yours. It begins during the battle on Malina Island at the end of the second season episode "Alienated".

Author's Note: So, I've been rewatching the series, gearing up for the relaunch this friday (SQUEEE!) and as I was watching 'Depths' this bunny started nibbling and I couldn't shake it. I had to write it. I didn't want to - man, I really didn't want to! - but I did anyway and here it is. I hate it. Uterly, totally, comlpetely, and all because it made me cry. I kid not. Full on sobbing while I wrote it and I really don't want to post, but I will anyway because they say misery loves company and so I'm taking you all down with me!
The sharp intake of air was the first indication that things had gone wrong.
The battle on the beach came to an abrupt halt as the two powerhouses stopped, face to face and chest to chest.
No one moved, no one dared breathe.
And then Aqualad jerked his arm forward and plunged the blade of water completely through Nightwing's sternum and out between his shoulder blades.

"I've always wanted to carve up this bird!" Joker cooed maniacally, laughing as he moved in closer. Robin leaped back, noticing with dismay that he was being lured farther and farther away from the group. A few yards away, he noticed Wally being slammed out of the way by Count Vertigo, and winched in sympathy.
And then he ducked again, because the Joker's blade was just where his head had been a few moment ago.
"Aww, hold still, Boy Blunder." Joker hissed, his smile widening. The stretched red lips and bleached white skin look ghostly in the fading light. "You're taking all the fun out of this."
"Sorry to disappoint." Robin panted, backflipping just in time to avoid being skewered through the stomach. "Hope I didn't disturb you too much." he added, wishing that the team had been there. Conner always liked his wordplay.

AUTHOR'S NOTE: This is a continuation of my AU of the Episode "Depths". I've been working on this for a while and I'm rather pleased with how it turned out. I borrowed a bit from DC Comic "Nightwing #114", because it's one of my favorites and I really wanted it in my story. So I took it and rewrote it and put it here and I'm not sorry! LoL! Now, a lot of people have wanted this continuation, so I hope it meets with your expectations. Please, enjoy!
DISCLAIMER: Seriously, do I really have to do this again? I will if I have to, but by now you should all know that none of this is mine. It's really not. All recognizable DC Characters belong to DC Comics, and the story and plot belong to the Troll - *WHAP!* - Muse. I'm just the person who gets to type it up.

The air was thick, oppressive, and made breathing all that more difficult. The fumes of the chemical soaking the floor scorched his nostrils and stung his eyes, and for the first time he could recall he was grateful for the cloth and layers of thick rope cleaved between his lips. The corrosive vapors wouldn't be able to damage the inside of his mouth or throat.
A splash of grey opaque liquid ricocheted onto the denim of his well worn jeans, and over his leather combat boots, as the balaclava clad man continued to crack the top the barrels open and tip them out of the bed of the truck and onto their side.
Dick Grayson's pain-filled curse was muffled by the gag when the liquid combined with the gasoline he was already drenched in and began eating through the fabric and burning the skin of his shin. He pulled on the ropes, twisted into thick cuffs around his wrists using the cords, which stretched him to the rafters of the underground garage, to lift his feet off the ground. His arms were

He couldn't breathe.
The hand around his throat cut off any intake of air he might have taken, and his eyes went wide in panic as he clawed at the iron-like fingers.
"Easy, Dick, easy," the voice was not what he expected and it took a moment for him to recognize it.
And then he could breathe again, deep ragged gasps that bordered on hysterical sobs.
Gentle fingers moved his own hand away from his throat and then were helping him sit up in his bed. No, not his bed, the hospital bed he'd been restricted to now for more than a week.
"Breathe slowly, son," Bruce was coaching him as the older man sat on the edge of the mattress next to him.
Dick nodded and fought to keep from hyperventilating. He closed his eyes, chasing the lingering images of his dream back into his subconscious. He heard the door open and a whispered conversation between the shift nurse, alerted by the sudden spike in his vitals monitor, and his guardian. A moment later

I also freely admit that the second scene has been transcribed and altered from the YJ Season 2 Episode: Summit. Thirdly, this story is the continuation of the Depths AU. In fact, it picks up less than 20 hours after the end of "Event Horizon". I suggest you read "Depths" then "Event Horizon" or none of this is going to make a lick of sense. Just FYI.

I watched him fall…
I always watched them, even when my mother insisted I was too young to participate. It was heart thrilling, seeing them fly about one another as if it were as easy and natural as breathing. They were stunning to watch!
He was the catcher. The first to step off the platform and fly in the slender bar stories above the netless ground. He was the strongest, the oldest, the one trusted to be there when the others released and left their very lives in his hands.
He was always there.
For her, for them, for me.
Always for me.
And so he was who I always watched when I wasn't flying.
And it was why, that night, I watched him fall.
I saw it in his eyes first. The rich chocolate eyes that were alight with love and joy as he did what he did best. He felt the wires buck, lifted his eyes to a spot above my head and I followed that gaze. I saw the moment when he saw and recognized the fate that would not be his alone.

The fact that it took Batman, despite knowing the access and counter codes, several minutes to decrypt the incoming transmission was a testament to the skill of the missing hacker.
"How is he so certain that it is from Robin," M'gann asked quietly from where she stood.
"The repeating numbers when someone else tries to access it," Kid Flash answered as equally hushed.
"Robin," Green Arrow paused and corrected himself, "Dick helped Batman develop the JLs encryption codes before we went public."
"Each member has his or her own series of codes which helps Watchtower filter incoming messages." The Flash said. "If someone unauthorized tries to access the communiqué, all they will be able to read is the base code."
"It will continue to repeat until the correct passwords and filters are imputed into the system." Superman nodded to where Batman worked furiously. "For a finite amount of time, however, until the signal or message is corrupted and lost."

So, this probably wasn't what Batman had intended when he sent Jason through the portal. However, the green-eyed Robin had five years of pent up frustration and anger to let out, and Sportsmaster was such an inviting target. Despite the obvious difference of size and age between the two, the first blow to Sportsmaster's face cracked the goalie mask he wore.
The second broke the nose beneath it.
Vaulting over the dazed man lying on the floor again, Jason planted his hands on the computer console and lifted himself over it. As he did so, he twisted his legs around to drive them both into the ribcage of the freaky horned guy that was trying to dislodge the knife in the hard drive. He kicked hard, sending the freak flying back and through several of its little green monkeys and into the wall behind them. It didn't get back up.

The mercenary and his men were taking no chances with him. While one goon climbed into the pilot's chair, Dick was dumped onto the floor in the back and with a nudge to his ribs Sportsmaster flipped him onto his stomach and stepped heavily on his lower back. Unable to do more than struggle futilely, in a matter of seconds the same piano wire they'd used on his wrists was wound around his ankles.
It was only when the machine lurched to the side, as his knees were forced to bed upward and another length of wiring as stretched between his wrists and ankles, that he realized they were airborne.

Bruce remembers what happened three weeks ago so clearly. As clearly as the death of his own parents. How could he allow this to happen? He is the BATMAN! He is supposed to protect people, save people. He did this all to make sure no children would end up like he did.
And yet somewhere there is a child suffering. And he was there! He should have done something! He should have stopped it! He failed again. Bruce throws his head up and screams.
