I am 'doing well' outside dA .. it feels good to have that recognition that my art are 'doing just fine' ...

Thanks for the past, present and futureI knew that the time would come, and I am so sorry, I was hoping it would be later in the future, but it is here: I can not thank you as I would like anymore. I have 4000 friends who follow my work and hundreds of fav every day (and that makes me great pleasure). Until today I wanted to tell you directly how I', grateful, but now I work 1 or 2 hours at the computer to thank, and commitments will not let me anymore. Definitely I will continue to respond to comments, but right now I want to thanks in advance all those who want to add my drawings to their collection and want to add my name to the list of friends. Thanks for the past, present and future2 years ago in Personal More Like This

10 tips about drawing #3 - ShadingThird round of 10 simple and effective tips about drawing, this time a bit more spesific, time to delve into shading, the one area I feel I have progressed the most.10 tips about drawing #3 - Shading2 years ago in Personal More Like This
**This is my own personal take and oppinion about shading, take it with a grain of salt **
1. Shade and blend An extremely common way to shade, but not only overused but more often than not used incorrectly.
You lay down a value pref. with an HB or softer pencil and blend it into the paper from the dark to the light, but the thing here to remember is to not go too hard in blending at first, if you do it is very tricky to manipulate the values after.
Think of the tooth of the paper like grass, don´t just stomp them down on the first go, gently grace the paper with a blending stump/tissue/q-tip etc and once you start to approach the desired value you can go a little harder.
2. Directional blending Much as 1. but directional blending means you always blend following the curve of what you are drawi
Don't ART for free ...Note written under the influence of several recent situations ...Don't ART for free ...2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Now, I understand that not everyone can/like/love to draw - but that does not mean that some people have to treat 'drawing people' as children. A few days ago my friend asked me if I draw him a portrait of him and his girlfriend. I agreed without hesitation ... But when I told how much the portrait will be cost - he was angry with me, that I will not do it for free! I understand that it is my friend - but I spend my free time, energy, etc. on it. So it's no longer just fun for me. It becomes a way of life ...
I wish that those of us - involved in the drawing - were taken more seriously. Because it is a job like any other. Not sitting behind a desk in an office does not mean that I do not work as hard ...
The situation is very well illustrated here:

So we hate to disappoint you all, but this group is beyond saving.
As you all well know, we shut down for a few weeks to make an attempt at reorganizing and making this function again. And as soon as we reopened, we found out we had missed one critical point- Admin assistants were only able to vote on two folders- Featured and Critique Requested- and no one except the Founder had the permissions to change that.
I am SO sick and tired of dancing around this bullshit and being blocked at every turn. Granted, I probably should have checked this before we made so many changes, as I should have known better. I've tried to go in and fix it so that my wonderful admins can vote on all folders, but once again I wonder why I even bothered trying to fix this bloody mess. I either get a DA error that it can't save the changes OR I get an error that says I don't "have permission to change these settings." Of course I don't, silly me for even trying. I sent a not-so-nice note to the

'DRAW-A-LONG' (With Me) - Part 4 - ShadingSo apologies first – sorry! I know this is a week late, but I have been busy – honest'DRAW-A-LONG' (With Me) - Part 4 - Shading1 year ago in Personal More Like This
This week's episode will cover how to fill in your drawing outline – or at least how I will 'fill-in' my drawing outline. I was a little disappointed that not many requested the reference picture – so I guess that not many are following along, not to worry I will continue to detail the steps I have taken, and perhaps it will provide a useful reference to some people in the future. Remember these are not definitive ways to draw - just the way that I draw, I am sure it is not the 'best' the 'easiest' or the most 'professional' - it is just the way I draw
So first to basics, almost every journal, art-teacher, tutorial etc. will tell you to start at the top left hand corner of a drawing (right hand if your left handed)
The idea being that you not smudge the work as you work downwards and across the paper. However I would like to mention a couple of things, firstly even though you do this, make s

Let's Learn Portraiture: Natural LightingWelcome to the second installment of Let's Learn Portraiture! The previous installment was about Model Communication. For this installment, we will be tackling a topic for those photographers who enjoy taking portraits outdoors.Let's Learn Portraiture: Natural Lighting2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Portraiture with Natural Lighting
1.) Avoid Direct Sunlight
While it can really bring out the color of the eyes and make them pop, having your model stare into the sun should never be on the agenda. Not only is it exceedingly uncomfortable for your model, but it casts very harsh shadows. In most cases, you want to position your model with the sun behind them, or to the side. This will illuminate the hair and offer a nice glow. The issue then is that the subject's face may be too dark (underexposed). To solve this, you can bounce some light back into th
Let's Learn Portraiture: Model CommunicationIn an effort to further give back to the community, I have decided to kick off a series of informative articles called 'Let's Learn Portraiture.' The goal will be to cover topics related to people and portrait photography. To start, we will cover a topic suggested by ThomasJergelLet's Learn Portraiture: Model Communication2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Communicating With Your Model
Get to Know Your Subject
Different photographers take different approaches to how they interact with their models, but I've always taken a personal approach. Learning about your subject's interests can not only make them more comfortable, but it can also lead to more striking images that follow along with those interests. Communication is key when it comes to interacting with your model, and building a quick rapport is important in order to solidify that.
When working with amateur models who may not be familiar with posing for the camera, you may often find that they will resort to e

Traditional Tuesdays #39Howdy peeps? Welcome to edition 39 of Traditional Tuesdays (yep, on a Wednesday again, oops). This week, like all of the other weeks, I'll be featuring fifteen works of art from the Traditional Gallery. Any more than that might and you might loss interest or it could cause your monitor to fail in an explosion of awesomeness. I would feel guilty if that were to happen, so I'm keeping it at fifteen! The Traditional gallery is a vast storeroom of work that covers many mediums and genres. I've tried to show a good mix of artwork, but I don't have room for them all. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!Traditional Tuesdays #392 years ago in Art Features More Like This

Simple drawing tips.I have been asked a lot of times If I could make a drawing tutorial, and to be honest I do not really feel I am at that level yet, and there is allready so many out there.Simple drawing tips.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
But some simple pointers I can certainly do.
So here we go, 10 simple and effective tips, general and spesific.
1. Draw a LOT: Sure, techniques help, tutorials are awesome and books is teh shit, but in the end there are no shortcuts, if you do not draw a lot you have nobody but yourself to blame if you feel you are progressing slowly.
Bring your scetchbook ( get one! ) with you wherever you go, draw anything and everything, and doodle if you are on the phone, just basicly draw a lot and build up that mental library, it will only do you good.
2. Shade with the form: For instance an upper/lower arm is cylindrical, if you shade right across it tends to make it look flat even after blending ontop, if you curve your shading along it creates a greater illusion
'DRAW-A-LONG' (With Me) - Part 3 - PreperationOK So the results are in and it looks very clear that the chosen reference for us all to draw will be.....Ewan Mcgregor'DRAW-A-LONG' (With Me) - Part 3 - Preperation1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I could not have predicted the result, but it seems from the feedback that it was his beard that won the vote, and people found this a more interesting reference than the rest. I am cool with this as I chose all 4 options comfortable with having to draw any of them.
So almost down to business, but firstly I wanted to describe the stages of preparing the drawing and paper we will use to draw our chosen reference.
1. Cropping - Before drawing you need to decide if you are going to tackle the full reference or just part of it - some of this will be dictated to you by the reference itself, some of it will depend on how confident or comfortable you are with certain aspects of the reference. For example, if you hate drawing hair (I do !) then you may decide to cut that part out of the reference. If you look at this picture of Ewan, I would say that
Watchers (Permanent) Feature :)Like many others, I have in the past featured the work of those who choose to watch me as a thank you. Today marked the number of watchers I have going past 2000 and I worked out that if I celebrate 10 watchers work per week it would take me 4 Years to say thank you to each one, and saying thank you every 4 years is not really good enoughWatchers (Permanent) Feature :)1 year ago in Personal More Like This
So I said to myself, Why not open a group up that is completely dedicated to those lovely bunch of people who watch me? I can then have a permanent place to showcase their work and to say thank you every second, minute and hour of each day
However, I was worried that some people may think it is a bit arrogant or maybe just a way of getting more 'watchers' - overcome with the need to make sure I am not upsetting anybody - I thought I would have a poll, and let you decide!
So just to confirm the idea....
This would be a group set up to display the work of just the people who watch me, no restrictions (within DA guidelines) on the type
