BioWare Co-Founders Choose to RetireFollowing close upon the Monday (9/17) announcement that Dragon Age 3 was on its way to becoming the next major BioWare studio release, BioWare founders Greg Zeschuk and Ray Muzyka announced today that they are BOTH retiring from the gaming business.
Greg writes: "After nearly twenty years working at BioWare I’ve decided it’s time to move on and pursue something new. This decision isn’t without significant pain and regret, but it’s also something I know I need to do, for myself and my family. I’ve reached an unexpected point in my life where I no longer have the passion that I once did for the company, for the games, and for the challenge of creation. For the people I have had the privilege of working with, however, my passion burns as brightly as it did the day we started. The people I work with now, and that I have worked with in the past, have inspired me and really made all of the challenges we

Requests can be made, within reason, for certain scenes to be rendered (a scene from a piece of fan-fiction, for example) and will be completely free. However, the models themselves will not be uploaded in any format. Requests for any model from the game to be rendered in any pose from either game will be completed as soon as possible, bearing in mind that human heads can't be done.
Troodon80 - As the author of the reference sheets, all I can do is hope that they are at least somewhat useful to someone; whether that be to make a costume, a model prop, a figurine, or drawing some fan art. So far, the list contains over a hundred reference sheets and it's still unfinished.
Character Feature: Shyla ShepardThe seemingly indomitable Shyla Shepard has lived a harsh and tragic past. After losing her family at sixteen to a bloody Batarian pirate attack on an Alliance colony, the young fighter joined the Alliance military only to lose her entire squad in a deadly thresher maw attack. In the years since, these early scars have forged a new identity out of the shattered ruins of the child whose family died on Mindoir. Known for her “tough but fair” approach, Shepard’s fight against the geth incursion broke new grounds for humanity when she became the first human Spectre on the galactic Council’s elite forces. But recent rumors have put in question Shepard’s loyalty to the Alliance forces. Our investigator setup an exclusive interview to delve into the truth behind the legend.Character Feature: Shyla Shepard4 years ago in Personal More Like This

Now these game developers are asking Mass Effect artists and writers to help keep them inspired. They want to post art, writings, photos, drawings, and any other medium of art to hang on a wall that is currently sad and lonely. This is a great way to say thank you to a team of developers who create such a wonderful and fun game that many of us enjoy.Bioware's Call to Arts!1 year ago in Personal More Like This

Fairness, Inclusion, and Gay RomanceProps to David Gaider, as his Dragon Age Inquisition creation, Dorian Pavus, (for which Gaider was the writer) has been sweeping up attention and recently got a nod in PBS's Game/Show for encouraging empathy amongst players.Fairness, Inclusion, and Gay Romance7 months ago in Personal More Like This
Whether your Player character specifically romanced (or had any interest in) the character or not, Dorian Pavus's inclusion in the Dragon Age: Inquisition story as an exclusively gay man (instead of bisexual) is giving Players a chance to explore a side of sexuality in games that hasn't existed before. From pariah to a different kind of sex symbol hero, Gaider himself has spoken about the complexity of the character:
Dorian is gay—he is, in fact, the first fully gay character I've had the opportunity to write. It added an interesting dimension to his back story, considering he comes from a place where "perfection" is the face that every mage puts on and anything that smacks of deviancy is shameful and meant to be hidden. Dorian's refusal to play alon

How Bioware Changed Meby :iconByTheGoddess:How Bioware Changed Me3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I was going to be a Surgeon.
As a child, it was Veterinarian, but as I grew up I realized with my brain, I should use it to help people. How better to help people than to save lives?
It didn't work out. Second semester of ninth grade I started getting stomach aches. Sounds like no big deal but it was, as a kid who had never been sick suddenly getting out of bed in the morning was a challenge. I missed school. A lot of school. Fell far enough behind that for the first time in my entire life I was going to have to struggle to pass my classes.
Me—the child who got A's in her sleep—all because of some stomach aches. "They can't be that bad, you just don't want to come to school." But I did want to go to school. Problem was, insecure kid that I was, I started to believe everyone who told me I was making it up. I was a skipper, a delinquent.
Then it got worse. Grade ten rolled around and suddenly I have headaches, too. Migraines. Every day. To my frien

CONTEST CONTEST CONTEST!Yes, THAT'S RIGHT. I'm having a contest.CONTEST CONTEST CONTEST!3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Since the newly announced ME3 ending DLC isn't going to be here until summertime, I'm going to need something to tide me over...
Let me break it down for you...
The THEME: Help me erase my ME3 sad panda blues.
Art: Create something that will help me forget how sad I was after ME3. This could be anything. Maybe something dealing with the aftermath of the battle, a victory celebration, some imagined future, could be a scene from a certain fanfic..., or it could be something completely different! It could be a comic strip or a sculpture. As long as it's Mass Effect themed and helps me resolve/forget about my 'ME3 ending' sadness infection.
Bonus points if you use my FemShep and/or Garrus - preferred, but not necessary.
Literature: Come up with a new ME3 ending involving my Shepard. I'm leaving this pretty open, though I will say I would prefer my Shep to not be a dead, also I have been known to frequent the indoctrination th
Blind Winter Poetry ContestThe Blind Winter Poetry ContestBlind Winter Poetry Contest4 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
With the winter comes a specific sense of appearance, be it snow, a frosty window and a fireplace, or blistering sun, the beach, and a cool drink. No matter where the location, the season brings a certain sense of familiarity...and we're challenging you to reconsider that familiar scene!
The prompt, should you choose to take it on, is to write a poem about winter as you know it. The challenge, however, is that you can't use the sense of sight within the poem. Deprived of sight, you'll have to rely on your other four senses as a means of describing winter as you know it.
Only new poetry will be accepted for this contest, so no recycling older works as entries.
All entries must be posted to the Literature gallery (not Scraps), though any subcategory in the poetry category is allowed.
Entries must be no longer than 50 lines.
Contest: End rhyme to end all rhymeA HammeredPoetry Prompt-ContestContest: End rhyme to end all rhyme4 years ago in Personal More Like This
This contest is now open! Please submit your entries to the group gallery 5 End rhyme to end all rhyme.
Rhyming poetry is unfashionable. Unless you want to come across as either comic or childish, end rhyme is old news. If you’ve tried rhyme recently you might have found that the only way to take yourself seriously is to write a medieval ballad or a Shakespearean sonnet about ancient knights or Elizabethan love. Either way you end up sounding trite.
But we don’t want to let rhyme languish. We want rhyme in our poetic toolkit, as acceptable as alliteration, as valid as assonance. So here’s the deal:
• Write a poem which uses end rhyme.
• Use whatever poetic form you choose.
Feel free to make one up. Feel free to ignore metre altogether or use an irregular rhyme scheme.

Even the most gifted badasses have to train. Whether it's mastering their techniques, achieving spiritual enlightenment or just plain old working out, badasses need to train!
This contest is open to original characters and fan works alike.
What we are looking for is...
1. The character or characters working to become or maintain their badass status.
2. This training can be all sorts of things. It can be pumping weights or exercising. It can be practicing with their powers or abilities. If you like it can be something more spiritual, like levitating rocks with their mind. Even meditation, done right, can be badass.
3. Sparring with an opponent can be accepted. However, you should be careful to make it different from an actual fight or combat.
4. While some forms of training can be conveyed in a static pose (like standing beneath a waterfall), most of the best in

Beyond the Extended Cut... I will reignite. And so the end creeped upon us. With the Extended Cut behind me I can finally say that I've seen the full extent of how BioWare wanted to end the Mass Effect trilogy... And I disliked it. Don't get me wrong, the Extended Cut is a vast improvement over the vanilla endings and I think that everyone should check it out - but it is still the same unfitting ending, it is still something taken out from another story and sewn onto Mass Effect's glistening skin, with it still kicking and screaming (yes, this is just a personal opinion and no, I am not bitter about that - I just dislike how it ended). The themes that made Mass Effect so great are still either nowhere to be found, or twisted around to present a vision I just cannot accept as something that belongs there. My fanface is itching, my writer sense tingling... Not the way I want to end one of the greatest sci-fi experiences of my nerdy little life.Beyond the Extended Cut... I will reignite.3 years ago in Personal More Like This
There will be no extended cuts to the Extended Cut. Either you love the current finale,
