A white unicorn in royal robes and sparkling crown stood atop a snow-spotted peak. The blizzard responsible for it had been thwarted a full week prior--and hopefully, forever--but from her vantage point, its effects could still easily be seen across the horizon.
In its half-melted state, the snow highlighted the flora of the land below, causing several colors of the rainbow to shine under the moonlight.
Princess Platinum smiled. They almost hadn't done it. Heaven knew she hadn't contributed all that much to their cause.
At that moment, however, she at last heard the hoofsteps of one who had.
"Ahh, Clover the Clever," Platinum greeted the brown-robed violet unicorn who had just traversed the peak's leading trail. "Thank you for showing. I... did not wish to inconvenience you whilst you were napping."
Clover nodded with a light, airy smile. "I appreciate it. Still, I came as soon as I read your note. Is anything the matter?"
Platinum allowed a small, peaceful smile of her own to cros

A thunderous roaring of hooves and wild cheers shook the ancient stonework and columns of the starlit colosseum. The scene was alive, more alive than it had been in ages, perhaps in all the years and centuries since the first note was ever played in its heart. Everypony who was anypony was there, hollering and stamping with wild abandon as if to outdo each other. Their shouts and adulations were cast back and forth across the grand open space, where a regal figure was making her way towards the lonely player at the center of all the attention. Such was the din and clamor that the young princess of the moon, smiling brilliantly as she stopped and turned to lift a hoof at the audience, found it hard to make herself heard.
"We believe" She stopped and waited a moment, but the riot of cheers continued unabated. Luna smiled at the crowd, then down at the lone unicorn who looked decidedly uncomfortable in her position next t

Applejack looked up from her mug of cider toward the door. Who could that be? I ain't expectin' anypony but my family—and they don't need to knock. She waited for another knock, yet none came. Maybe I'm just hearin' things, she thought. It was awfully hot in the room and after a long day of clearing snow from the roads, she had started to doze off, letting the warmth soothe her aching muscles.
She flicked her ears and continued waiting. Another moment passed, and satisfied that her mind was playing tricks on her, she rested her head on her hooves and emptied her mind once more, letting the warmth take her back to her relaxation.
There it is again. I guess somepony really is at the door. Applejack blinked the sleep out of her eyes and trudged over to the door, yawning. Who could be out here on Hearth's Warmin' Eve? She pulled the door open and her eyes fell upon Rainbow Dash. For barely a

Trixie woke up for the fourth time that night. Sitting up and lifting a cracked mirror up to her face, she wondered why she even bothered anymore.
It isn't like anypony cares...
Groggily lifting herself out of bed, onto the rickety floor, she plodded over to the creaky door and slowly pushed it open, letting the crisp night air toy with her untidy mane. After standing in the doorway for a moment, Trixie abandoned all thoughts of attempting to get more sleep and walked towards a nearby tree.
Behind her, a few hills over, was a small village, covered in that blanket of darkness just after midnight that seemed so tangible. On all other sides stretched a deep forest, thick with trees. She made it to the nearest tree and threw herself into a sitting position, with her back against the smooth brown trunk.
The moon and stars, the only things that have followed me all this time...
Trixie lifted her gaze to the heavens, and immediately pinpointed her favorite constellations, amon

Since the Days When I Was Small
It was all so exciting
First time on the surface
With my mother, elder queen
We hunted the emotional souls
First taste of emotions
I swallowed the sugary love
First feast on emotions
I drank all of the sorrow's salt
We roamed the overworld plains
While relishing treats, the earthling souls' ether
I dreamed of the future ahead me
On the warmth of mother's lap
First feast on emotions
The taste of milt stayed on my tongue
First taste of addiction
Sugar of love and sorrow's salt
We watched the sundown
Since those days when I was small
We saw the fortress
I yearned to taste that joy once again
The euphoria in my mouth
Filling me with hopes and dreams
Raw force within the heartfelt
Passion of the young embrace

Snips and Snails were dripping sweat as they struggled to drag along the heavy wooden cart that dug into the ground. The cart plowed up the dirt and left a sizable trench in its wake. They looked at one another, tired and worn out from pulling the new tyrant of ponyville to the edge of the forcefield. They stopped for a moment to take a quick break. As soon as they had stopped, a glowing red whip snapped at their backsides from mid-air.
"Pull you fools!" the whip snapped it at them twice more. "Somepony set off the magic forcefield and Trixie intends to punish them!" shouted Trixie as she prepared to whip her subjects once more for good measure. She did not have to go through with the final whip, as the two simpletons had begun to move twice as fast as they previously were. Snips craned his head back towards the unrelenting whip wielder.
"But wouldn't it be faster if we had some wheels?" he asked nervously, his voice higher than usual.
Trixie's head snapped up and he
Maddy's Game [Prologue]The ice cold floor seemed like it stretched down the hallway for eternity. Red splatters covered the walls and floor. A girl stood in the midst of this scene, her short brunette hair covering her face and her fragile body trembling with fear. Her grey-blue eyes wide with shock as she stared ahead of her. Bodies, everywhere. Some she recognized, and some she didn't. She was cluching onto something... A blade. A very large blade, at that. Had she done this? The answer... Yes. She slowly took a step back, clutching onto the blade tighter, the blood oozing onto her hand and down to her wrist. "I'm sorry...", she said, "I'm sorry... I'm sorry... Everyone loves you can't you see, Who are they to tell you to leave?
Who are they to make fun of you eyes?
Maybe you just don't need a disguise
Dear Derpy what you you say to those who don't want to hear your name?
Would you hate them fiercely or just love them all the same?
What about those people who want to put you in the grave?
All because they just don't understand the meaning of your name
Who are they to call you offensive to any kid?

Why do they have the right, to make fun of your face?
Why were they even watching you in the first place?

What was I thinking?
A star-adorned tiara plopped onto Twilight Sparkle's bed.
It all looked to so good in my head! The actual outfit even looked good! At least to me... but I'm no designer, am I?
Two oversized, star-plastered sets of earrings and bows followed.
And the whole time, I pushed her to make it. Constantly correcting her over the most minor of details, forcing her to abandon her design sensibilities, and being ungrateful about a dress that she had offered to make me for free!
That dress, cluttered with animal and constellation designs, joined her jewelry on the bed with a soft ploomf. Twilight looked at the ensemble, only now finally able to see it for the trainwreck it was.
Whew. Back to some semblance of sanity. But the damage is already done. It's my fault. I asked for this, and I got exactly what I wanted... at the expense of a good friend's image. Maybe even her career. I'm the absolute worst.

"Was it before the genetic manipulation of Blackpool, or after? What time we thought we had is gone."
Forelock straightened, stock still. "And what time did you think we had?"
Without ado they trotted back through the corridor and into the basement which was Vallade's base of operations. Ditzy and Brazen awaited them. Blackpool was gone.
"What's become of Blackpool?" Forelock asked, leading the group upstairs.
"They've taken him to Dr. Stickerbrush," Brazen supplied. "Where are we going?"

Five more minutes until Orion's birthday party. Under normal circumstances, ponies would be expecting their guests to be fashionably late, but those ponies obviously never met the Pie family. Looking at the clock, Andromeda knew that the moment the large hand hit the "12," Berry and Cherry would be at the door.
They couldn't help themselves. Partying was in their blood as well as their upbringing. Andromeda figured any filly raised by Pinkie Pie would be that way. Waiting at the door, Orion and Andromeda smiled and readied to scare their friends in an unexpected welcoming. The twins were renowned for their sneakiness and pranks, so it was time they pulled one on them. Time slowed down as the final seconds inched their way up the clock's face. When the last second hit, the two unicorns threw open the door.
"Gotcha!" they yelled in unison before settling down at the empty sight in front of them.

Orion had run into the basement very quickly, confusing his guests. Bucky and Peach Cobbler both knew that when it came to Orion, trouble usually followed things like this. Whatever was going on in his head was most likely worth seeing, so the two Crusaders chased their friend into the former-lab. Where the basement once was the headquarters for Twilight Sparkle's scientific discoveries, it was not used as much as it once was and had now become more of an archive of data and experiments rather than an active station. Its purpose, however, did not alter the feeling of wonder and amazement the two ponies always experienced when rummaging through them. Shelf after shelf was filled to the brim with books of many colors and sizes and countless documents laid organized in drawers and bins before them. Regardless of the room's organization, there was not as much space left, but Twilight always refused to get rid of any

"A couple of weeks ago, Applejack was planning her annual family reunion, and said that she needed somepony to help cater. Since a certain one of us we know quite well owed all of us an apology at the time, we figured she'd be the best one to tap. Thus, I went about crafting a most... fitting outfit." "Okay, so I'll put the hydra card here. My timber wolf card here. Hm...where should I put my fairy card?" Twilight put her hoof to her chin as she thought, looking down at the flat piece of cardboard showing the image of a fairy (what looked like a tiny pegasus with a flowing blonde mane and crystal-clear gown). It was one of the many cards Twilight, as well as three-fourths of Ponyville, collected as a part of the "Creatures of the Everfree" card series-the latest collector's fad to hit Equestria.
"Ah-hah! Right here!" Twilight thought in triumph, sliding the fairy card into an empty slot, "Gotta be organized for when I show you to my friends, just as soon as I finish my collection."

They say that time heals all wounds. But that's not true. Sometimes, time only causes the wound to fester—to become infected and burn with the fire of loss.
I have told this story at least a hundred times. And every time is like opening the wound afresh and pouring salt into it. So now, I write it down on paper so that those who wish to hear the tale may read of it. For I will never tell this story again.

Shining stared up at the oak door that towered above him. It was a normal door, no different than a typical door one would find inside a house. But given the contents stored away behind it, it had an unusually grand feel to it, and Shining couldn't help but feel dwarfed in its shadow.
The old grandfather clock down the hall let out twelve loud booms.
It was noon. The high sun's rays shone through a nearby window and across Shining's stationary, white frame. It warmed his fur while he kept his blue eyes locked on the door.
His parents always said how the attic held an eclectic assortment of things, from old music records to hardcover books that hadn't been opened since his grandparents lived in the house a decade before.
Shining imagined his deceased grandfather, the stallion with the amputated hoof and a pair of wild, yet kind, eyes. Shining imagined his still-alive grandmother, the sweet mare that would always have a batch of cookies at her house for him and

The Changeling Kingdom, or the 'Motherland' as the species often affectionately referred to it, was located far away from Equestria in the east, crossing plains, deserts and glaciers. It would take weeks worth of travel for any pony using non-magical means to reach the country, but once they did, they would definitely know.
It was a vast, depleted country, characterised by a desolate mountainous landscape which, during its infamously long, vicious winters, was always blanketed by thick layers of snow. The summer was not too pleasant, either; it sometimes got hot enough to kill scores off by heatstroke. The kingdom, especially as a mostly rural one, had its pluses like large forests and seas, but for the most part, it was the same greyed nightmare wherever you went. So as you can imagine, they did not do well in the tourism industry.
It was an established fact that the Changeling Kingdom was by no means the most modernised or wealthiest nation, even before the current mona

Unfortunately, for once, it seemed that "they" were right.

CHAPTER 2: Orion's Big Day
From the moment the first rays of sunshine flowed through his bedroom window, Orion Sparkle woke up without a single ounce of hesitation, threw off the warm covers that enveloped him, and jumped out of bed. The room was cold and the world outside looked even more frigid, but instead of returning to the toasty embrace of his dreams, he only felt more awake than ever. His sister Andromeda often joked that it would usually take nothing short of magic to pull him out of the peaceful comatose he called sleep, but this was no ordinary day.
Life and enthusiasm rushed through his body in great vigor this morning because today was his birthday. Even more important, though, was its significance. All night long, he dreamed of finally getting his cutie mark and showing it to his friends. The “oohs” and “aahs” still reverberated in his mind as he rushed to a mirror, unable to contain his excitement any longer. With a quick turn, he spun hi
