My spanish teacher in 7th grade first introduced us to this holiday, which if you're unaware what it is, it's a day of honoring your deceased friends and family with food and celebration of their lives. I love the idea of it, much more then the solemn, depressing stretches of mourning in relation to one event, celebrating the lives they lead is a beautiful way to remember someone. The thing I remembered most is that you make food for the decease relative, and when it goes stale, that means the ghost ate it. I thought that was pretty badass as a kid.

I guess there's a little bit of context to this since I found out about an hour ago that my uncle died. (nothing sudden, and nothing unexpected, twas a long while of suffering, and considering he had downs syndrome, he lived a hell of a long life) But yes. It's a fantastic holiday, and I wish the general populace celebrated it. It's on Nov. 1st and 2nd.

I know the flames around his hand look like crap - still learning to render them realistically! ><

He crawls through swamps,
alone yet in companionship with thousands of rats.
His legs broken,
his breathe heavy,
his honour vanished.

Vunsvagh is one of my most favourite characters that will appear in teh story of Myre and which will play a very distinctive role. Accompanied by thousands of rats that announce his arrival, he is a banned soul that got thrown into the deep swamps of the very last and dead forest.
Dragging the old branches and sticky mud with him, his burden to dwell in this neverending slough won't come to rest.
He is a great advisor to Myre yet his story has a very deep and sad connection to her.

This was the last big painting I completed in 2011 but I decided to upload it now, with some more changes about the painting. I declare it therefore as my first painting of 2012 as a great, albeit not with the most optimistic picture. ;]

I always wanted to express Vunsvagh's lonliness and sorrow this way.

More is yet to come!
