I've become a big fan of appliqués in the past 5 years.
In this tutorial I want to show you what you can accomplish with this simple sewing technique.
Don't be surprised if I go through the steps quickly. In the lower tutorials everything has been described.

PE: Wire-WrappingThis article is a short introduction to wire-wrapping, including information about wire-wrapping terms and tools, methods, tutorials and a feature of beautiful jewellery.PE: Wire-Wrapping2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
What is wire-wrapping?
"wire-wrapping" is - like the name implies - a technique where wire is wrapped in whatever way. It can be used to hold gemstones in place, and create intricate jewellery. It has the big plus that soldering isn't neccessary, and therefore all the equipment needed is relatively easy to come by.
Terms and Tools
Wire comes in different different sizes and forms, and you can choose between materials as well - you can use brass, copper, silver and gold wire.
Wire diameter is measured in 'gauge' and ranges from 14 gauge (~1/16 inch) to 26+ gauge (1/64 inch), so the higher the gauge number, the thinner the wire.

Bridgman's Complete Guide to Drawing from Life by George Bridgman
Even if you don't draw people, I still recommend this book... as it teaches "blocking-in"/gestures. Copy the drawings/sketches from the book to help yourself build good habits.

Learn to see and you will learn to draw—this book explains how to see (with a more subjective approach).

Wonder where I get my free textures and stuff?I woulda told you if you asked lol But I know lots of people don't usually want to ask, so I made it easy. I use media militia for random stuff I might need. Like a skull pack for reference for instance, and I use Lost and Taken for any paper textures I could want. Lost and Taken is completely free, though he wouldn't turn down a donation. Media Militia is kind enough to group their freebies together.Wonder where I get my free textures and stuff?4 years ago in Personal More Like This

I started this journal because I had been dissatisfied with my art skills so since May 28, 2011, I've been on the hunt for material to help me out. PLEASE NOTE: This journal gets UPDATED! So check back every few months or so for anything new! And if you find something useful, please suggest it! If you have your own collection of resource links, please share them! And if you're browsing this list and encounter a site link that no longer works, let me know.
ANNOUNCEMENT! My journal is becoming too big. So soon in the future, I will be making a PART 2 to this journal. Some of these sections will be moved there, and the ones left behind will be expanded upon!!! Please continue to leave suggestions. Let me know what has helped you out. I would love to know.
UPDATE! December 29, 2014: Instead of making a PART 2, I will be moving all current information found here and will be making all future updates on my website,
Some art/webcomic adviceI got this really thoughtful question on my tumblr a week or two ago in regards to art/webcomics:Some art/webcomic advice1 year ago in Personal More Like This
"Hello K-bo, I Have been aspiring to be a webcomic artist much like yourself for a long time. Viewing your artwork and your achievements inspire me to reach out for my dreams. I wasn't able to see you at Fan Expo this year so I wasn't able to ask you this in person. I feel like I'm at a point where I'm comfortable enough with my art and style to start a webcomic... but I have no idea where to start... Do you have any advice? Thank you!"
I wanted to share my answer with you guys since it might be relevant to your interests. I hope at least some of it is useful to you. Here goes...
"First off, that’s awesome and I’m honored to have inspired you in any way. You should be very proud of yourself for being ready and willing to start this journey.

Tutorial: How to machine stitch horns onto heads! Here's another quick and simple tutorial!Tutorial: How to machine stitch horns onto heads!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
When you make your gusset pattern, leave a little hole where you want the horn to be.
Pin the horn to the gusset hole. They should be the same length.
Now match the back of the horn together and pin.
Sew from the end of the gusset to the tip of the horn.
Now you have a horn that's machine stitched to the gusset!
DIY Photography Studio Tools A few people have been asking for Studio Lighting tips - whilst there are many articles online that talk about DIY lighting for smaller projects like products and food photography, there isn't much to help promote DIY studio sized lighting. Lighting set ups for portraiture can often be very costly and whilst there is no immediate do-it-yourself solution there are some low-cost ideas out there. Most of the equipment that you need for developing your Photography hobby into something more can be sourced online or in local shops. You don't have to shop at 'studio lighting' or 'backdrop shop' for the proper gear. These simple tips will hopefully help you identify things a lot closer to home and a lot cheaper.DIY Photography Studio Tools 1 year ago in Art Features More Like This

Are you interested in trying our Official Photomanipulation Tutorial Challenge but unsure of where to begin? Look no further! Here are some tips about creating a tutorial that is easy for you to write and easy for us to understand. We hope these pointers will be useful to you; as always, feel free to leave questions or comments.
1. Sit down and really think about what you are good at doing
What do people compliment you about most frequently? What are you most proud of in your manipulations so far? It could be anything, from the way you select and cut out stock to the way you make your colors pop. Start from your strength, something you can talk about with ease.
2. Take the pressure off!
No matter how "good" someone is at photomanipulation already, they still have something interesting to le

GDA PE Week 2013 Day 3So I'm swapping the order of things, today will be intro to some programs for game development. Art features, a bit of Q/A (possibly) and some fun stuff will be tomorrow and friday!GDA PE Week 2013 Day 32 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
The tools of the trade
Is a massive list, I mean massive. There are so many programs you can use to achieve the art you want for Game Development, it can be overwhelming to narrow it down on some you think you'd be good at using. or excel at learning. Keep one thing in mind when it comes to choosing a program to use: It's just a tool.
Period. The tool doesn't make the artist, it never has. We've seen remarkable work come from the most unlikely places and why should Game Dev. art be any different in that regard?
You'll find people get into battles a lot claiming the tool they use is the best for what they are doing, but that's just it: it is best for them. It may not be what you like, but that doesn't mean you're wrong or you can't achieve similar results. So

My personal online psychiatrist is making me narrate this nonsense down on the chip embedded in my tooth in hopes that someday I may be cured of my "incompatibility" with ANNET, or at least possibly reduce the "mild psychosis caused by work-related stress" as she calls it.
I know that it's not going to happen. The problem is something genetic and while those goons in the genetics department would love to get their machines into my brain, I prefer the lack of sleep and headaches to lobotomy.
I seen the reports on their test subjects: "total neural shut-down", "subject resists integration with the net, increasing the signal strength lead to damage to the 85% of the frontal lobe."
Call me old fashioned, but I like my brain the way it is.
I've had that day-dream again. Day-mare is more likely.
A flash-mare? Not sure what to call these, really.
The transmitter towers dotting this bloody city are making my life difficult, but not as difficult as the fact that everyone expects me t

Wig Color HelpI'm hoping someone out there has ideas for how to wear lighter wigs without looking bizarre. I have brown hair and green eyes, but the red undertones of my skin make it impossible to wear white or blonde wigs. Is there some way to apply make-up to make it look more natural? Or can I wear slightly different-colored clothes so that the contrast isn't so stark?Wig Color Help4 years ago in Personal More Like This
There are several characters that I'm planning to cosplay who have lighter hair than mine, and although I've been trying make-up, the things I'm doing don't seem to help.
Thank you in advance!

Attend life drawing classes over the summer. Blegh.
Take a sketchbook with you everywhere you go, and fill up ten of those bad boys at the coffee shop. Pfft.
Let's be honest here. We all want to become better artists, like, right frickin' now. We don't even want to have to suffer through hour-long tutorials of some pompous snooty hack bloviating over the intricate methods of drawing eyes on YouTube. We want progress, we want improvement, and we want it on our desk in ten minutes ago!
Fine, fine, I hear ya'. While these aren't going to make an instant Leonardo da Vinci out of you, these might get you up to...ehh...Basquiat caliber. Sure, I've made tutorials, but those are more about setting up Photoshop for the sake of coloring an image, and not so much building yourself artistically. Those are more technical lessons.
