Imagine you are walking on top of a brick wall. You are faith. Behind you is feelings, and in front of you is facts.
If, in your faith, you look to facts, your feelings will follow.
If you look back to your feelings, you'll lose sight of the facts and your faith will fall.

Sometimes I curse. I don’t pepper my language liberally with curse words like people might pepper a house salad, but sometimes I curse.
It surprises people to hear that pastors sometimes curse. But really, that’s all I can do sometimes. When you see terrible tragedy where you have absolutely no response other than sadness and despair, cursing happens…because you can do nothing else.
Likewise, sometimes when I see utter beauty a word will slip through my lips, brought from the very depths of my emotional being where words live only to be used in situations where no word seems appropriate. Usually that’s a curse, too.
Pastors sometimes curse. Christians sometimes curse.
And, really, I hear things slip from Christian mouths with reckless aba
Our PurposeGod put us all on Earth to serve various purposes. This is evident by how other people affect our lives. If somebody inspires you, God put them in your life to be a muse. If somebody loves you, God put them there so that you would be loved. If somebody pisses you off and makes you want to strangle them with a phone cord, well, he put them there as an obstacle so that you could overcome that hate and that anger and become a better person by doing so.Our Purpose7 months ago in Personal More Like This
We are not given just one purpose, like so many people like to think. We affect others in different ways, and in that, we become multi-purpose people. Like that weird room in Middle School that had a stage and a gym and a disco ball. We are inspirations to some people, loves of other people, and obstacles for other people. God put us on this Earth to serve these purposes. To affect others lives is why we are here, and why it's not only important to spread the gospel, but to live it, because by living and affecting others lives, we are doing

Please pray for the Westboro Baptist Church.Hi everyone! :iconkatethegreat1011: here! Please pray for the Westboro Baptist Church.1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I haven't been on in almost a year, and I apologize, but God's been working some incredible things in my life, such as giving me a passionate cause for which to become a Prayer Warrior.
Most of you have probably heard about the Westboro Baptist Church, but I'll give those of you who haven't a (not-so) brief summary:
The WBC, headed by an anger-filled pastor named Fred Phelps, believes that they are speaking the Word of God by promoting hate towards others. They believe that the Bible condemns homosexuality, and that America, by not making being gay a capital crime, is damned, along with its soldiers and people. They believe that those who support or even remain neutral about gay rights are sinners condemned to hell. WBC also hates Jews, soldiers, Swedes, and basically everyone besides their 40+ members, 80% of which are all related to the Phelps family (no relation to Michael the swimmer!).
To prove their "righteousness" and to "get the message
Easter!! Hello there, LGBT Christians. It's :iconstrawberryr: here, and I'm wishing you all a happy Easter!Easter!!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Today, we usually know Easter as the holiday when some anthropomorphic rabbit busts into our house and leaves us candy. The original Easter wasn't nearly as happy. It was three days after the crucifixion of Jesus, and nobody believed Jesus would return to us.
The wives and sisters of the apostles went to go prepare the body of Christ (since passover hadn't allowed them time for that before), but when arriving at the tomb saw that the stone door had been rolled aside.
Inside, instead of Jesus, there was nothing but the burial shrouds and an angel- telling them to stop looking for the living among the dead.
The women were so excited, they went to tell the 11 living apostles.
Through the next few hours, all 11 apostles were joined together, hiding in a small attic-like room. They had all heard Jesus had risen, and yet there were still doubts.

Systematically dehumanizing patients by telling them that they are dirty, broken, and shameful. Verbal abuse is a central part of the therapy.
Isolating patients from their friends and family and removing any methods of contact like phones and computers. Only approved people are allowed to be contacted at all. Phone calls are often monitered by therapists, violating any hope of privacy. Letters are read before being sent and, if the counselor does not approve of the content, they are discarded.
Coercing frequent confessions from the patients about how they are sinful or worthless. Often privileges like the ability to contact family or leave the facility are withheld until the counselor feels the patient expresses e

How to Pray, and what Prayer is.:iconstrawberryr: Here, and I noticed that many people have been noting me asking exactly how to pray. Now I'm not going to point out which deviants asked what, and I know that at one point about everybody's asked how to pray. How to Pray, and what Prayer is.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I want to start this journal off with what should be obvious:
There is no wrong way to pray.
Prayer is just our way of talking to God. Think of Jesus as an operator, connecting us to God through him. When we pray, we're just having a conversation with God, the way we would with a good friend. It doesn't matter how you pray; you can pray on your hands and knees the way Jesus might have himself, you can pray with your hands folded, with your arms outstretched, upside down, etc. No matter how you pray, as long as you love God, there's no WRONG way to pray.
Some people like to have a little more specifics, more structure than that. For those of you who want a more structured way to pray, here's a handy acronym:

Luke 23:34:iconstrawberryr: here, with another short journal with a message for all of you.Luke 23:341 year ago in Personal More Like This
Luke 23:34 is a verse I recently thought of that came into play in my life recently.
I discovered the truth of an event that took place in my past, where boys broke into my home and broke irreplaceable family possessions, and yet...
when I was sitting there, sobbing, I didn't wish them to die, I didn't wish they'd be sent to jail forever and killed, I didn't want them to suffer.
I asked God to forgive them.
Luke 23:34 reads, "Jesus said, 'Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.'"
We need to keep in mind that holding grudges against people is not a Christian thing to do. We need to live our lives better, in ways that would make our lives and the lives around us happier and better overall. Jesus preached forgiveness, and even forgave the thieves next to him as he stood, dying on the cross.
Let's all remember to be forgiving as October comes around, and to not feel like the world or t
Are Christians Better? If you believe in a religion, you are almost required to assume that your view of morality will be superior to someone else's. The euphoric feeling that God is behind you, pulling your strings to prevent you from acting badly is very addictive, but unfortunately also very destructive. At some point, any adult Christian must question how much God improves us as people and how much we are left to improve ourselves. What is the role of our own will vs. the transforming power of God? Why do Christians still act badly? If God doesn't make us better people, what is the good of Christianity at all, apart from getting us into heaven? Everyone chooses their own answer, but here is mine. Are Christians Better?1 year ago in Philosophical More Like This
I used to believe that following God (honestly and truly) would result in a transformation of the mind and soul that makes people desire to be more compassionate and Christlike towards others. The Spirit would be a gentle guide, never forcing us of course, but still just
A one-sided conversation.Hi, :iconstrawberryr: here. This journal is about prayer.A one-sided conversation.10 months ago in Personal More Like This
I would like to start this off by reminding everybody that there is no wrong way to pray. You can pray however, whenever, and (usually) wherever you like. Prayer is an important part of the Christian faith, and is something most if not all Christians should strive to do daily or near-daily.
Of course, we get detractors that tell us we're "talking to the wind," that prayer is a one-sided conversation.
They're half-right. Prayer is one-sided, but that's what it's supposed to be. Prayer is a Christian's way of talking to God. It's the same as picking up the phone and dialing the number to call a friend. Prayer is, essentially, one half of the conversation. Continuing the conversation, or listening after you finish speaking, is how a one-sided conversation becpmes inclusive. Of course, most people won't or don't take the time to listen.
I was stuck, this summer, on a long road trip with two fellow Christians. They had a very
Common Misconceptions about the Bible and LGBT1) The Bible says homosexuals will go to HellCommon Misconceptions about the Bible and LGBT2 years ago in Philosophical More Like This
Romans 3:23 says For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. This means that all human beings are guilty of sin, so no special group (e.g., homosexuals) are doomed to go to Hell. Anyone can make it to Heaven if they accept Christ as their personal Savior.
2) Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed for being gay
The act mentioned in Genesis 19 before Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed was attempted gang rape. The two angels mentioned in the passage were strangers to the city and the people of Sodom did not receive them with welcome.Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.
(Ezekiel 16:48-50)It's not homosexuality that's the issue here, but inhospitality.
3) Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13 say that homosexuality is an abominationThou shalt not lie with man
A Letter on the Young VoteDear Dr. ________ (in response to your article on facebook),A Letter on the Young Vote1 year ago in Letters More Like This
You suggested in your article that young people tend to vote for Obama because they believe "the purpose of the government is to supply my needs." This presumption, that the young are primarily motivated by selfishness in their voting choices, I think is misguided and a bit insulting. I don't presume to speak for all young people; I think we are in agreement about that. However, I think I might be able to provide some additional perspective since I am a young person, and I voted for Obama on November 6th. I have many, many friends who did the same or who would have if they had the chance. I think I can provide a lot of insight based on my own experience and the culture and friends I've been surrounded with. Let me lay out a few of the biggest influences on the young culture.
A) Young people are financially inexperienced.
I don't say this to be insulting to my demographic, but it is true.
Stop Hate.I'm going to keep this short, but I feel like it needs to be said to all friends in the LGBT community: we need to stop the hating on Christians.Stop Hate.2 years ago in Philosophical More Like This
Believe me, I totally understand where the hate comes from. The religious community has been one of the greatest obstacles in our battle for equal rights. I know many people who have treated me badly or hurt me in the name of their God, my family included. I've seen many Christians who seem like wonderful people suddenly seem to lose their minds and their conscience when it comes to homosexuality and they believe they are justified. I've felt my fair share of hate for the Christian community.
But the entire point of our movement is to eliminate prejudice and unfair judgments of another person based on a category we can put them in. I can't stand when people judge me for being a lesbian. I also can't stand when people judge me for being a Christian. Even Christians wh

"Don't," my inner voice forewarned... And as I pondered the fact that I should listen to it more often, the demon on my other shoulder kept begging. Incessantly pleading, beseeching, imploring. It would want nothing more than for me to get what I wanted (...or what it wanted...) Could my desires really be the same as that of a demon? I would be tragically crushed. We had been battling with this reverse psychology for too long.
I had been hiding and denying my sexuality for too long.
But I realize now
Why I can't relate
Why I differentiate
I can't understand
That I wasn't planned
But neither can they,
What would they say?
I can't be who I want to be
Living a life that is fake, sadly
"I'm not living,"
Battered, bruised, and beaten,
Crushed to conform,
Cold, never warm
Time to give in
Bring on the heat

Make me heal

But how would they react?
Would I still be intact?
In fact, actually, I'd be better locked away

Firstly people like THIS and THIS that remind me why people suck. Not only do people suck, they suck the hairiest set of donkey BALLS you ever did see. The kind of balls that make you scream in fucking TERROR and hide under your blankets like a 5 year old who believes it they can't see IT, they can't see THEM.
Homophobia is honestly the most childish and stupid thing I have ever heard of and seen. Quite frankly, is pisses me right the fuck off. I mean, GAWD, who died and told them they could treat people the way they do? It sure as hell wasn't GOD.
And the moment you say something back about their hate, they immediately go "omg, you're just in denial" (denial of WHAT!?) or "what about love and tolerance?" (Um, we have it, but it's hard to tolerate the hate that spews from your mouth, dude).
I've heard so many different statements about how homosexuality is so damn hor
What's Wrong with Science?Dear Lord, what have Christians come to?What's Wrong with Science?1 year ago in Philosophical More Like This
I've recently had the misfortune of stumbling across Conservapedia.com: a fundamental Christian website, claiming to be "the trustworthy encyclopedia". It offers information on all manner of hot topics related preserving the truth of Christianity, such as how the NIV Bible was written to support abortion, how college professors support bestiality, that pursuing a career in the arts is unhealthy, and that the story of the adulteress in John 8 is fabricated to support a liberal agenda.
As a Christian myself, this sort of wacko far-right propaganda brings me no end of embarrassment. I could spend years tearing apart nearly every single article on this site, but fortunately, I have a life and will likely only pick one or two to dissect.
However, there was on article that irritated me more than all the rest; it irritated me even more than the articles trying to suggest that a large percentage of all murders ar
Frustrated ChristianSometimes Christians baffle me. I'm talking about a very specific group of Christians... a group that is much more prevalent and numerous than I want to believe. They want to draw souls to themselves, but they sneer and spit poison when they think no one was listening. They dominate the charity scene, but they pick and choose which people are deserving of their help. Not content to just cling to their faith, they choose to cling just as tightly to their behaviors, insisting that God is leading them so their behavior is right, no matter what anyone says. If any of these describe you, my message is for you.Frustrated Christian1 year ago in Philosophical More Like This
You are sent to mirror the image of God to the people of earth. Is that what you want people to think God is like? Do you want people to think God is a back-biter who gleefully jeers about the "bad" people among his elite followers and friends? Do you want people to think that He only picks people

Normally I write for everybody, but this month's column is a call to arms, addressed to the reasonable, decent, but much too silent majority of male gamers and developers.
Guys, we have a problem. We are letting way too many boys get into adulthood without actually becoming men. We're seeing more and more adult males around who are not men. They're as old as men, but they have the mentality of nine-year-old boys. They're causing a lot of trouble, both in general and for the game industry specifically. We need to deal with this.
Why us? Because it's our job to see to it that a boy becomes a man, and we are failing.
When we were little boys we all went through a stage when we said we hated girls. Girls had "cooties." They were silly and frilly and eve

I'll just leave this right here. If you're too lazy to read the whole thing, I'll bold some important sentences.
24 Jesus left the temple and was walking away when his disciples came up to him to call his attention to its buildings. 2 "Do you see all these things?" he asked. "I tell you the truth, not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down."
3 As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. "Tell us," they said, "when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?"
4 Jesus answered: "Watch out that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Christ,[a]' and will deceive many. 6 You will hear of w

the work of the devil,
I never knew love,
could cost me forever.
It's not my fault,
I didn't ask for this,
I didn't ask to get caught,
caught up in her kiss.
It's not just a faze,
I've always felt this,
the need not for a prince,
but for a princess.
But you say it's impossible,
for me to feel this way,
I have to fight it, I have to battle.
But why is it that you; mom and dad,
your love is seen as pure,
but as for mine, it's seen as a sin,
just because it's with a girl.
You always taught me not to judge,
so why are you being so judgmental,
you sin too, you have your faults,
so why am I the one on trial?
God wont leave me because I love,
He knows it's not my fault,
so mom and dad do as you wish,
I'll love her if I want.
