The metal of the eaves was icy cold under her fingers. She gripped it tighter as she stood up on the windowsill and reached for the short little railing that ran around the perimeter of the roof. Only for decoration really, but helpful in her case. Skillfully, she swung her lithe figure up and over the railing. Her boots landed firmly on the tin, making a faint clanging sound.
She scooted to the corner and hugged her knees to her chest. The city was laid out before her like a giant popup book. The house she was on top of wasn't the tallest structure in the area, but was definitely one of them. The roofs of other buildings were visible from her perch. Signs of life were stirring beneath her as the village began preparing for a new day. People were hurrying along the streets with carts and children, women were hanging clothes on the lines that stretched between windows, vendors began setting up and shouting at passersby to advertise their wares.
