Hello to all!
I'm seeing great commotion around the last news, the ability to change our username.
I'm staying Egil21 and have no intent to change it, but I do understand that many people don't think much about it when they join and the fact is, after some years on dA, growing, maturing, improving their art, that name doesn't make sense any more, specially when you are called ~NarutoLoverForever and trying to sell street photography (this is just an example, it's not real, though I checked and there is an account with this name ).
As this ability is only available to Premium Members, I'm going to give 10 Premium Memberships (1month subs) to dA members who are not subscribed. Of course, I'm only giving to the ones who are my watchers or TheFavouriteShowcase's members/watchers.
Also, as I'm reaching the 100.000 Pageviews, I'll give 1 month sub or the correspondent points to the deviants who catch the 99.99

Shame about fennecs + my favourite wolves - PHOTOSHi!Shame about fennecs + my favourite wolves - PHOTOS3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I went to my beloved ZOO Olomouc to photograph animals yesterday - I needed a break from the thesis writing.
I spent hour or maybe more with my favourite wolf subspecies - Iberian wolves. They were very active and even aggresive, snapping their jaws and snarrling a lot. One of them tried to catch a crazy rodent. It was fun and I got many photos for you
But the bad news - fennec fox got a new light in their enclosure. It is a red light and it TOTALLY does not allow you to photograph, because the specific light ruins the texture of the animal's fur and there is no chance to get any photo I am sad about it, I loved this place for fennec photography now it has been lost... in ZOO Dvur Kralove, they put those foxes into very dark indoor exhibit, so this place is also lost and in Prague, you never see them... Hm... I am a bit sad about it, I would miss those little guys
I also definitely need a new lens. My current one had troubles to focuse yesterday and I could not take a s

Bullying is SeriousA teacher taught her class about bullying today, and gave them the following exercise to perform. She had the children take out a piece of paper, then told them to crumple it, stomp on it, and mess it up, but not to rip it apart.Bullying is Serious4 years ago in Personal More Like This
Then she told them that they had to unfold the paper, smooth it out and look at how scarred and dirty it was. She then told them to tell it they're sorry.
Now, even though they said they were sorry and tried to fix the paper, she pointed out all the scars they left behind. And that those scars will never go away no matter how hard they tried to fix it.
That is what happens when a child bullies another child, they may say they're sorry, but the scars are there forever. The looks on the faces of the children in the classroom told her the message hit home.
DA's Insular Taste PhenomenonIt's been quite a while since I wrote a preachy "THINK ABOUT YO' ART"-type journal, and some of my newer watchers may not know that this is a particular(ly annoying) habit of mine. This is a subject I've had on my mind for quite some time for a number of reasons, and it's recently coalesced into a semi-soluble form so here we go. (As an aside- this journal does have some recycled ideas from a previous post of mine, but obviously I hadn't really said everything I wanted to on the subject.)DA's Insular Taste Phenomenon4 years ago in Personal More Like This
It's no mystery that I love this website. I came in at the tail end of the pre-critique wonder years, when the internet discovered and exploited that, yes, we don't always produce the highest quality art here. There's a lot of unpleasantness directed towards DeviantArt. At RISD, I made a point to never mention that I had an account here, because of the looks of disgust I would get haha and people would think about me differently. It was

I mean you are going to die! Think about it! One day, you are not going to be here, and others will. Things will keep happening but you will be dead. It's a weird thought. Some people hate the idea of death. I have done for ages and ages. But recently I have realised, I'm going to die so what's the point of worrying about it? I mean I have more important things to worry about like exams and homework and the fact that I literally live on the internet. But then again what's the point in worrying about those pointless things...I'm going to end up dying one day. YOU SEE WHERE THIS IS GOING?!? You worry about something, you're going to die so don't bother. You worry about dying, there are other things to do first. Problem solved. However I do want to achieve a few things in my life and i promise i shall:
1. Be happy and have fun (cause...why the hell not?)
2. Do something that actually helps people and makes a difference (somehow....)
3. STALK, FANGIRL AND THIEFSHIP! (ha. ha.
Artistic Growth: Making of Morgan Le FaySometimes it just takes a while to get it right.Artistic Growth: Making of Morgan Le Fay3 years ago in Personal More Like This
In early 2011 I began a piece I back then called 'Fairy' - I had an idea of this alien looking woman staring into the vast emptiness with a slightly lost look on her face. Her main feature was to be her brilliant blue eyes. I started the piece and I had fun with it for a little while but then I got incredibly frustrated because I was unable to transfer the image in my head onto the wacom tablet.
The early, abandoned piece.
A year later I was looking through my folder of pieces from 2011 and found the abandoned file. I decided to pick up on it again and see if I could make something of it. At first I felt inspired by an old German Oil Painting by Christian Seybold (1695-1768) - a portrait of an old woman.

What is it about a fictional character first introduced to the public in Great Britain in 1887 that has kept him being reincarnated, with generationally-correct upgrades, over and over again in film and on television? Who is this literary hero whose portrayal over the past century by such past masters as Basil Rathbone and Jeremy Brett to today’s vanguard talents Robert Downey, Jr. and Benedict Cumberbatch has inspired such a continuing outpouring of fan appreciation?

it's all about work!Every day i hear how talented I am - I think this is a incorrect. I think that talent is confused with work. I do believe there is talent in every artist, but it is only 5%- you see when we were younger we all drew the same. As we got older, many people stopped trying to draw due to comments, lack of interest or what ever other reason they put there. The others that continued, like all things learned that it is 95% work, frustration, tears, anger, determination, persistence, practice, practice, practice, & more practice that allows them to create the artwork you see. Many people just grade the artist on the end result, in reality they missed the struggle and battle that truly defines the piece created. I enjoy the 5% talent I see around me yet I respect the 95% dedication that these great artist put out that makes their works fantastic. I believe anyone can learn to draw- they just have to want it bad enough. and that means that they are willing to show us by putting the effort in to iit's all about work!3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Caring about your own workDuring my second semester of foundation at Pratt institute I had a very interesting drawing teacher named Douglas Wirls. One my last day of class, where we had our final review he told me something that will stick with me forever. Professor Wirls said to me:Caring about your own work4 years ago in Personal More Like This
"It is your responsibility as an artist to care about your own work. It is a responsibility you have to your work, that you MUST care about it and seek to improve it, because no one else is ever going to care about it as much as you. No one else is as personally engaged in it as you are, so if you give up, that is entirely on you. No one is going to stop you one way or another, it is all on you. It is YOUR responsibility."
It made me think, and although it has only been less than a year since he said this to me I have often reminded myself and taken solace in it. Perhaps during the early years of learning, this reminder is most valuable.
It can be an incredibly frustrating path to improve your artistic skillset. Sometimes the penci

If a person want's to be different let them and stop bullying them into being something their not just because it makes them 'socially acceptable' to the world.

'Prometheus' is PrologueI have seen the future and it looks like the past.'Prometheus' is Prologue3 years ago in Personal More Like This
As usual, I waited for Ridley Scott's "new" film "Prometheus" to run a while before seeing it in IMAX 3-D. It is in fact based primarally on old material. True "Alien" afficenados will recognize plot elements, themes and visuals from the entire Alien film franchise. I will not inflict spoilers on any reader who has not yet seen the movie. I sat through the end credits and took note of the recognition given to "Alien" creators Dan O'Bannon and Ronald Schusset. I saw the original "Alien" film in 1979 at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood just a week after it had premiered there. I became an ardent fan of the film. I learned that O'Bannon and Schusset's original script and vision for "Alien" had been greatly truncated for the first film. For budgetary, technical and running length reasons a huge amount of script never made it to celluloid. Quite a bit of the unused material has finally found its way onto the screen in the form of this "Ali
