This is a mural that I've just completed for my good friend Terri. We stuffed all of her hopes and dreams into a fantasy town based upon the Montmartre area of Paris. Neither of us have been there, so please excuse the extreme liberties that I've taken.
In the center, she has the shop she's always wanted. I have a big fantastic art gallery in the front right. In front of my studio are her parents walking arm-in-arm as they were on their wedding day in 1950. The woman and child at the flower cart are a memory of my friend with her daughter when her daughter was about ten. The bistro at the far left is a restaurant for her son-in-law who loves to cook with all of our friends present at the tables. And at the very far right of the picture are Terri and I dreaming of the paths our futures will take us.
I wish my camera were better at capturing the little details like the little birds bringing good fortune, but you can sort of make those out. Our friends also have little shops in the background, but that lettering would be very hard to capture.
The whole wall is 90" tall by 73" wide, painted in acrylic. This is about a 40" swath of the whole mural that doesn't include a railing in the lower foreground.
PS: You'll notice a light switch over the music store!

Growing up in Michigan has given me a deep appreciation for Fall. Most of my favorite memories of Michigan involve long walks through vibrant forests, crisp air that turned my nose red, crunchy leaves, roasted almonds and hot spiced apple cider...
A lot of people look at fall as something sad or melancholy as everything begins to die before winter. But it's not so! This is the final frenzy from flora and fauna as everyone scurries to prepare for winter. There is so much to do, so much going on! Even the wind seems to push us on, hurrying us along that sweeping path toward the cold and dark months ahead.

Beowulf is an Old English heroic epic poem of unknown authorship, dating as recorded in the Nowell Codex manuscript from between the 8th and the early 11th century, set in Denmark and Sweden. Commonly cited as one of the most important works of Anglo-Saxon literature, Beowulf last stand against the Fire breathing dragon revenge for his son Grendel.
Beowulf has been the subject of much scholarly study, theory, speculation, discourse, and, at 3182 lines, has been noted for its length.
In the poem, Beowulf, a hero of the Geats, battles three antagonists: Grendel, who has been attacking the resident warriors of a mead hall called Heorot in Denmark; Grendel's mother; and an unnamed dragon. The last battle takes place later in life, after returning to Geatland (modern southern Sweden), where Beowulf has become king. In the final battle, Beowulf is fatally wounded. After his death his retainers bury him in a tumulus in Geatland.
