The New Band AidThey had had a bad fight, Vincent thought to himself as he gazed at his reflection in the mirror. As always, he bore no new physical wounds. The damage was to his psyche. Cid's words had cut as deep as Hojo's scalpel once had, and he was left feeling uncertain. He couldn't remember what the argument had been about now. He'd been left so exhausted, he had just fallen asleep. His eyes scanned the reflection of the room behind him, settling on the empty bed for a moment before focussing on a cardboard box on the bedside cabinet. The New Band Aid3 years ago in Romance More Like This
They'd fought a lot about those recently, Vincent was forced to admit to himself, screwing up his eyes to block the memories of raised voices, words he had snarled but not truly meant. He had said some dreadful things to Cid, and none of them had been true. He needed Cid. The fact he had upset him stung deeply. Vincent was tempted to stay in th

Warnings: Bad language, a relationship between two men, angst and character suicide. Also, cigarettes, but I don't know if that counts.
Age had not been kind to Cid Highwind. In the twenty years since he had helped save the world, he had begun to suffer. The alcohol he would knock back, and his chain smoking hadn't helped. It was his lungs that had gone, leaving him wheezing and gasping for air, first when he ran, then when he went up stairs, and finally when he walked. The doctors had been very sympathetic and kind as they had told him that his remaining time on Gaia might be counted in months not years. They'd been patient as they tried to tell him he would have to be in a wheelchair, that even walking was too much for him. They'd listened patiently as he had screamed and cursed, then

1. Start of your writing course. You can do this! If you can't manage a day's work, it can be delayed, but try to stick to deadlines if you can. On the other hand, if you end up ahead, do the next day's work if you'd like! Find a word to describe the atmosphere of your story, and find 3 pictures of the setting/atmosphere you want it set in, and write a 50-200 word description of the setting.
2. Go on baby names website, and select 10 that you like that go with the setting. Then make 8-14 character descriptions of 8 words or less (i.e. a homicidal baker with an inferiority complex). Choose 3 names and characters, these are your main characters (probably 2 protagonists and 1 antagonist, but it's your choice).
3. Short profiles of at least your 3 MCs, and any others you want:

Since receiving your letter, I have read and reread it. It is hugely precious to me, and I have stored it in the safest place I know in the cover of my favourite copy of loveless, the one with the white cover that you bought me. The one that you laughed at me once about, when you found I kept it against my heart. I couldn't tell you then why it was there, and muttered something about armour, but I'll tell you now it's so that I can keep you close to me.
Yours was not the only Valentine I received, but it's the one that I kept. I've stayed close to you in the passing months, worried that your letter might just have been a flight of fancy, or a harsh joke. I know you're a physical man Angeal, you've proved it on the battlefield and off, and I assumed that all I was to you was company and a friend.
I had accepted that role, relished in it in a way, and leaving it behind now frightens me, yet I am w

Pairing: Tseng and Rufus
Warnings: Sexual references and mentions of past abuse
Rufus and Tseng shared almost everything, now that they were lovers. But they both had their own lives, and it was important that they had their privacy. In their bedroom, there were two locked drawers, in which they could keep their secrets.
But secrets never stayed private in ShinRa. Tseng could easily pick locks, and Rufus had the entirety of the Turks to call upon. They both wanted to know what it was the other wanted to keep private, and despite the fact they tried not to, eventually one of them was going to crack.
Tseng was home alone, while Rufus was working late, and the drawer was calling to him, louder than before.
HeroesWhen Angeal had been a child, he'd dreamed a lot about heroes. He listened to the stories his mother told, as he sat on her lap, his head resting on her shoulder and young Genesis sat on the sofa beside them, and he told himself that was what he was going to do. He was going to be a hero, somehow, and he was going to save everyone.Heroes2 years ago in General Fiction More Like This
Angeal grew up knowing hardship. There was no way that could be denied - too many nights where he went to bed hungry, too many mornings when he woke up cold. But there was more to his life than that. He knew friendship, and kindness, and the safety of having somewhere to go home to where he knew he would be safe.
As an adult, looking back at that time, at the sacrifices his parents made and the love they had shown him, Angeal knew that he had been lucky. He wouldn't swap what he had had for wealth or comfort. He'd had something that mattered more.
The sword that his father had given him rested heavy on his back, a co

"Alright Cid, what did you do this time?" Tifa sipped her morning coffee and gave the scruffy pilot a stern glance.
"I don't know what yer talking about." Looking disturbingly much like a cat with a bowl of cream, Cid squeezed himself in by the Inn's kitchen table, between Nanaki and Cloud. All of Avalanche sans one was already loading up on a healthy hero breakfast of burned, crispy bits, sugar, fat, caffeine and starch.
Tifa didn't deign to answer, just gave him a weary, knowing look. That in itself was not very scary- the woman had a sixth sense when it came to love and romance and had figured out Cid's adoration for a certain gunman while the pilot himself was still looking for the door-handle to the closet. What was a bit fri

Summary: The First Class Soldiers find them selves in a tricky situation that only Cloud's special powers can remedy.
The sudden crackling, static sound from the speakers that spread out over the ShinRa building made all employees freeze from what they were doing and look up. The speakers were only used for important messages of the kind that affected everyone to some degree. If there were a certain thrill going through the Soldier floor, then perhaps that wasn't so strange. You never knew if it was another terrorist attack or something else that would require them to spring into action, swords and guns blazing. The Turks, on the other hand, all seemed to blend in with the shadows and disappear, even though it was bright daylight.
A strangely long pause, interrupted only by a weird croaking sound, made people look around with a frown, meeting equally confused glances. What was going on?

The Gods-damned Weapons electro-attack had blown out the Highwinds Gods-damned heater system to Gods-damned Hell and now it was Gods damn it all *snowing*!"
Shivering with cold, Cid pried his fingers from the airship's wheel were it felt as if they had frozen to the metal and blew on them to try to get some feeling back. It didn't much work, but perhaps waving his cig under the palm
The voice came directly behind him and Cid almost jumped out of his skin. The cig burned his hand and caused him to nudge the wheel askew. Cid swore and grabbed the wheel before the Highwind could take a rather fatal dive into a mountain slope.
"Shit, Vince, don't do that!" He gasped as the airship rose quickly, narrowly avoiding the cliffs.
Ember eyes blinked at him. If the gunman's heart was racing as fast as Cid's from the narrow escape, it didn't show.

Scowling in the eerie light of mako crystals, Cid strode up to the altar beneath the gaze of the comatose woman, but it was empty. He spent another few hours checking behind every pillar, rock and outcrop he could find until he was certain the gunman wasn't there, all the while having the creepy feeling of being watched disapprovingly from behind shut eyelids and crystal.
"Well, ta had yer chance," he muttered at the ex-scientist. "Now it's my turn." He sighed and scratched his head. "If I can find the damn vampire."
Day 2: Flying

There was no echo. Piles of books and research documents sucked up all sounds in the damp caves. Slightly dreading what he might see in this evil place, Cid managed to push the heavy stone

"You are all fools." Night had fallen, and around the little camp fire the mood was uneasy. It was not helped by a huge demon standing over them, eyes glowing like the embers of Hell and huge wings moving restlessly. "And you will all die on this fool's quest of yours."
"Ain't ya a cheerful one." Cid muttered. "What did ya do ta Vince?"
Chaos just shrugged. The motion made his wings rustle like dry leaves.
"He shares my sentiment ,he is only too much of a coward to say so. Your quest is futile and you will all perish before the end."
"Hey! Ya got no right talking fer him." Pissed, Cid stood up and moved over to the demon, despite the whispered protests of the rest of Avalanche who still huddled morosely around the fir
