moth-owl and synconi have been the driving force behind this Community Project. I check the folder as often as I can to move the miscats. It is the only way to keep track of just how many "real" submissions there are into the category.

1000 Cranes for Fella :iconfellaplz: talks about the project and how prizes will be randomly given away. Ignore the cut-off date since the current end date has not been determined. There will be points, Premium Memberships, prints and more! Each deviant can submit up to five (5) submissions into The Crane Project category. Please: Only handmade Origami Cranes! February 17, 2014 8:30am Mountain Time

Journal Entry: Mon Feb 17, 2014, 10:32 AM

February 17 8:30am mountain time:

It is with heavy hearts that we must inform you of the passing of our darling daughter, Alie.  Her final days were fairly peaceful, sleeping much of the time but also able to watch some of the Winter Olympics and enjoy her favorite event, figure skating.  Her final moments were peaceful with both parents by her bedside.

We have all been preparing for this day for the past several weeks, knowing it was coming far faster than we hoped.  From the moment in December when the news came of her terminal illness, Alie has continually amazed us with her positive attitude and limitless spirit. We have all learned from her selfless approach to life, her giving nature, and her passion for the possibilities that life hold for all of us  She was so thankful for all of the outreach shown to her by her friends and family and we share in that gratitude.  Unfortunately she was just too weak to be able to answer all of your texts, emails, and posts on various websites. You all have been simply amazing in your support: visits from family and friends from out-of-state and even out-of-country; expressions of love on Facebook, Deviant Art, and Tumblr; gifts arriving in the mail nearly every day…all of it has been simply amazing.  You have all truly inspired us and made Alie’s final journey so much easier.

We do ask that people not send flowers or gifts to our house.  Please, if you are so inclined, feel free to make a monetary donation in Alie’s name to The American Cancer

Alicia had a message she wanted to pass on to her internet friends:

To my Internet Friends:

Can I ever explain how much you guys mean to me?  Nope.  Not even going to try.  You have all done so much for me!  Supporting my writing, my art, and me when times get rough.  You are all so beyond amazing and I’m one of the luckiest girls in the world simply because I get to share so many wonderful things with you all.

And of course some of you mean so much more than that…you know who you are.  I’d planned on writing you all your own notes but if this is my end I’d hate to leave you with nothing. You deserve all the hugs and love that I can possible manage to get to you.  I’m not making a list; I’d hate for anyone to feel hurt or left out simply because my brain is a little loopy, lol. But believe me, if you’re on my list of close internet friends, you know it.  You guys have been my world for years now, shaping it in a way that people in the real world couldn’t.  You touched my heart and soul and helped me discover who I am.  I owe you so much and love you even more <3.

Huh…still feeling odd and loopy…I took one of those anxiety pill thingies.  Don’t really know what to do now though.  I admit I’m mostly just feeling tired which isn’t a new feeling these days.  But I’m suddenly a little scared that if I let myself go back to sleep…I might not wake up again…

Well, it’s scary but it’s alright. In a weird way, this fits.  I’ve never really settled on a future.  My dreams were always flicking around, never picking a solid choice to just stick with.  And I’ve been given the chance to travel and see the world already.  How many girls my age can claim that?

I have been so lucky and in so many ways.  I’m ready for this, if this is it.  Please, no one worry about me, alright?  Focus on yourself and the people you love.  Don’t be silly and stop taking care of yourselves.

Leaving behind all of my love,

Final Thoughts from Clive Barker

Odyssey. I can think of no better word to describe the journey that took place these past few months.

With the prologue, “They’re Mad, They Are,” I began work on a vessel that was not yet ready for sea. And on that holed ship, together we embarked over open waters towards an unknown destination.

What I then witnessed both touched and humbled me. You, the mighty crew of the HMS Odyssey, simultaneously crafted her and plotted her voyage with artistry and grace.  No small feat.

The path we traveled was treacherous, to be sure. But we passed through the eye of the storm, and found ourselves in a new world. It was brutal, brilliant, and inspiring.

Thank you for sharing yourselves with me. You are among the finest shipmates I’ve ever had the privilege to work beside. Make no mistake; we’ve built something beautiful.

Though our paths must now diverge, we will forever be connected by this sweet and terrible ride through the eternal, collective universe of That Which Can Be Imagined.

The Vision is Getting Clearer...

The inimitable author and artist, the fantastic Clive Barker, lent his special, brilliant madness to Odyssey Project 2.0 by writing the first “prompt” chapter of our experiment; setting the tenor for what would evolve into a weirdly wonderful and beautiful tale. We were honored by his participation.

For marioluevanos and I, This was our second effort at creating an ultra-collaborative short story fiction, our delirious, inspired version of the “exquisite corpse” salon game once played by the Surrealists. So far this incredible community of creative artists and storytellers have given life to two amazing “monsters”. The Grand Game will continue.

There were, once again, a whole host of minor glitches, particularly with so many entries needing to be read and fairly assessed in such a short time by so few judges (Clive himself was the ultimate arbiter this time).  All of your suggestions for improving this endeavor that have been coming in are greatly appreciated. You all have been writing the rules of the next Odyssey project throughout this process.

“Baby steps” for now, but together, we dream mightily…

Of all the unforeseen collateral fallout surrounding our Odyssey endeavors contest, none has been more heartening than the many incidences of participants branching off from the main narrative of the “chosen” story to continue their own personal vision. Often in collaboration with other writers and artists, they discovered their own preferred narrative vein and finished out their own separate stories. The idea behind this project has always been all about sparking creativity in collaboration, not simply winning a place in the main story.  That so many fresh new stories were born from the deviously germinated seed of a single Clive Barker chapter is precisely the magic we can all achieve together.

Many have been asking about the hard copy publication of Odyssey and Odyssey II, as well as the attendant charitable donations to come from those sales.  I am preparing a separate article for everyone that will go out in the next two weeks which will outline the plans for publishing both works this fall. There will be digital versions as well as hard copy versions. We have also expanded the content to include a full explanation of Odyssey Project with a behind the scenes feature outlining the process and participants from the beginning. I will create a list of the timelines, elements, and structure that we can all discuss in the comments and I will also schedule a featured chat with marioluevanos and I so that we can all talk about it in real time.

Odyssey II

by puzzledpixel

This body,
against the rage of strongest winds
and waves of virulent assaults
will endure.
My feet,
through vicious aftershocks
shall grow roots
and when the eye of the storm
has looked me in the eye, I
will be left standing,
alone, intact,
My life is not my
own and this body,
is only worn.
I am
my spirit, ethereal
Not by anything in this world
can I be touched,
you can not even bend me.
How can you destroy me?

A Subtle Shift in Course

by Beatleyperson

A subtle shift in course
That seemed quite insubstantial at first
Has given way, till you're far off path
And lost in a distant trance
What seemed inconsequential at the start
Has now made your life slowly fall apart
As you watch it crumble and crumple in your hands
You feel yourself loose your grip, and go mad
A certain paranoia sinks through the weary haze
You desperately try and slip away
As it grows into an uncontrollable panic
And you begin to grow drastic
And as the fear begins to grow
A soft voice in your head begins to echo
What did you do to deserve such a fate?
But put it out of mind, because it's too late
You're surly going to die by the hand
That you didn't see, didn't expect, and
The one you weren't afraid of
Brought this nightmare to life
And all of this came to roust
From a subtle shift in course

Inside Out

by portraitinflesh

Nausea, not me:
I boil within
my own skin
is a stranger
flaming and searing
me, not me.

The pain is in plain view
if only I weren’t hidden
if I could see me
would I recognize
or avert my eyes
knowing it has all
been taken away.

Me, not me
not since she,
or it, or them

Me, why me
a chosen vessel
without my consent

I may not have been much
but I’m all I’ve ever had
and now, no
nothing, nowhere.
The skin—my skin—
taken, broken
bruised, flayed
I fade

because of her
or it, or them
I will end;
even my wasted time
is torn away.

I’m tearing now
she-it-they want out.
I want to shout, scream
But my voice is alien to me.

Two of me
from me
of me
but not.
No longer.

by portraitinflesh

what’s mine is mine
to twist or unwind
I know what I hold dear

the end is near
if you had your way
each night you’d erase the next day

the price you had to pay
was far too high,
you ripped apart the sky

no explanation why
other than wanting to play God
you needed no encouraging nod

my ally was odd
even to you, yet she
also betrayed me

I can finally see
the truth you tried to hide
I saw once I died

so I turned the tide
you are out of time
what’s mine is mine

Outside In

by portraitinflesh

Look at the beauty
There is shit everywhere, every
breath drags it into me.

There is beauty all around
The ground under my feet is poisoned
I look up, and the sky is dying.

I see what you cannot
We avert our eyes, our
sighs we bottle up inside.
So much potential, so much
A shell of protection,
we’re so close to breaking apart.

You ignore your treasure,
this precious world, a shining
reflection of infinite possibilities—
you don’t deserve it
and you won’t miss
what you never noticed

Day in, die out
it’s all the same.
No one knows my name,
I’ve grown OK with that.
Life should make sense by now
instead, it drags me down.

A way in, that’s all I ask—
a path to your world, a
chance to taste neglected wonders

I wander through life,
everyone does—
it’s what we do when we don’t dream.

A seam to rip apart;
I’ll tear through you
Something has entered me
You may not make it
but you’ll create it
I feel so empty inside.

Got a weird treats for you all,

For years, whenever I've been intensively drawing a comic project I often felt the need the write myself some music. I've found out multiplying my creative output mysteriously benefit them all. There is, usually, no link bridging my Comic and musical world. Some fugues and some String Quartet sketches have been paired with Batman Incorporated for instance.

This time, being so enthusiast for swamp thing, I went and wrote the scored for issue 7 & 8.  OK, not really, but I've tried to cover their thematic stuff in a 3:16 of Full Orchestral Music.

Here a breakdown of the cues:
00:00 The timeless mystery of the Green
00:49 Growth and fate of the Green Warrior
1:36 The Rot
2:00 A bit of actionny big battle for those who got bored until now.

May you enjoy this roughs mix.

first of the vigil by nebezial

so, this july i am starting death vigil, published by image/top cow. it will be a monthly series limited to three 8-issue arcs, so there is a definitive ending. with this i have learned some of the things about publishing independent comics, and i am planning a video  with some tips after i summarize my experiences. hopefully it will prove helpful for others to get their stuff published

but apparently rule 1 is promote preorders.  preorders are crucial for independent books as they define  the print  runs, and are crucial to the sucess of the book.. so.. as my  far more experienced friends told me to do....

death vigil is preorderable ...pretty much in any place or webstore that carries  US comics.

you can find an extensive preview to issue 1 and much more here…

now, for some frequently asked questions

what about ravine? ron marz assured me that he will be done with his part of the work this weekend , so with just a bit luck we are sending book 2 to print next week. in fact once we do...i will make a big announcement here, alongside a bit of a surprise :)... A HEFTY..HEFTY SURPRISE

what about twitch? ah yes...twitch. here is the deal, kickstarting  books like these is  a tricky business, complicated , anfd loaded with calculations... so here is pretty much how this stands
if death vigil is successful i get a free pass to go with twitch, no kickstarter no nothing, a full green light... so it pretty much stands on my shoulders and relies on my abilities as a storyteller to  capture the attention of the reader...

i have done this on some who knows XD

with some luck i will go full  self written material... and then well...i have fun plans.

oh and next week video+audio tutorials coming. set everything up and just gotta clear everything from my backlog till this wednesday so my ranty accented english can grace your ears...TILL THEY BLEED!!!!! XD

Oh also , next week we'll be doing second round of  features, but more on that when i post that journal :)

okay after people asking ans suggesting, so here are some online shops that offer preorders on death vigil, more to come as this is jsut the ones i googled now, feel free to drop me   some links if you find more, i'll get more from my  peeps at top cow on monday

directly from top cow store…

online shops…………

for europe i personally have  been buying from archonia so i know them to be very reliable and professional, if you know any other webstore  feel free to tell me :)

more updates to come

Entry 382:

My personal online psychiatrist is making me narrate this nonsense down on the chip embedded in my tooth in hopes that someday I may be cured of my "incompatibility" with ANNET, or at least possibly reduce the "mild psychosis caused by work-related stress" as she calls it.
I know that it's not going to happen. The problem is something genetic and while those goons in the genetics department would love to get their machines into my brain, I prefer the lack of sleep and headaches to lobotomy.
I seen the reports on their test subjects: "total neural shut-down", "subject resists integration with the net, increasing the signal strength lead to damage to the 85% of the frontal lobe."
Call me old fashioned, but I like my brain the way it is.

I've had that day-dream again. Day-mare is more likely.
A flash-mare? Not sure what to call these, really.
The transmitter towers dotting this bloody city are making my life difficult, but not as difficult as the fact that everyone expects me to work 14 hours a day.

I seem to exist entirely on microsleep.

The latest episode of microsleep was a bizarre and psychedelic combination of environments with no usual characters present who torment me with their nonsense.

Yet they did have something to do with it...
I can't remember exactly how it went but there was something about living in a fish and then being chased out of it's ribs by cake-shaped spiders?
Hah, I must have been really small to fit inside of a fish.
Ridiculous, I know!

...Wait, I can sort of remember it now.

The green eyed man-child-robot was responsible for getting me into the fish somehow... aided by the purple eyed girl? Was that it?
I remember being really angry in my dream at the green eyed one, at the fish and at the whole situation. My hate for these characters within the dream even forced me to strangle my lunch, as soon as the flash of microsleep was over.
It's not a good sign when dreams start to infect my interactions within reality.
I wouldn't want to report this to my psychiatrist. If the Directorate finds out, they might delay my transfer to the Dead Zone tourism and that would be the worst. They might permanently disallow operation of heavy machinery and then there would be no way for me to get out of this place into the Zone.
Anyway, it's not like anyone will ever review these recordings. I don't think my psychiatrist is even human, the way she talks, she could probably be just a recording made for all cases like mine by the Directorate.

According to my psychiatrist though - the sleep issues and headaches should decrease as soon as I am outside the city, deep in the Zone, the ANNET broadcasting signal there just isn't strong enough.
And I will be the one in charge, so I can set my own hours!
Screw those tourists, they can learn to live under MY sleep schedule, instead of me trying to adapt to current society's insane standards and practices.
I really dislike what humanity has become. It's like everyone is a slave, and addict to the broadcasting wave.
I saw how ridiculous people react if the broadcasting signal is down. They can't talk or act.
One of the scientists wrote a whole thesis on this matter, putting test subjects outside of broadcasting range and disallowing them to use personal transmitters with satellite reception.
The test subjects didn't know what to do with themselves. Those who stored 99% of their memories within the net, had troubles recollecting who they were and what they did without the search engine to aid their minds. This experiment had of course given the scientist a ginormous grant to build more transmitter towers and satellites. Self perpetuating insanity! It's like someone up top wants people to become machines.
The longer everyone spends online, the less human and self-reliant they become.
Mark my words, someday those fools will loose their own identities within the net!

Suicide Squad Revealed!

Tue Nov 11, 2014, 7:20 PM
48-img-01 by techgnotic

Warner Brothers has finally announced the casting of their new “Suicide Squad” movie.

The current squad of team members from the DC Comic pulls from an ignominious list of shady characters including Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Vixen, King Shark, El Diablo, Iceberg, Deathstroke, Black Manta, Cheetah, Captain Boomerang, and even the Joker’s daughter.

“Amanda Waller” leads this secret “Dirty Dozen”-styled team of cons and villains whom the government can activate as mercenaries for risky missions. If caught or killed they can be completely disavowed. In return these convicts get time off of their prison sentences.  This neatly explains why so many villains roam the DC Universe mere months after being captured.

Both Margot Robbie, who was hotly touted as taking the role of Harley Quinn, and Jared Leto, rumored to be in the running for the Joker, have been confirmed in both those roles. Will Smith as Deadshot and Tom Hardy as Rick Flag were also confirmed. Other names confirmed are Cara Delevingne as the magical heroine turned villainess sorceress the Enchantress and Jai Courtney as the Australian super villain Captain Boomerang. Short listed for the as yet unconfirmed role of Amanda Waller are Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer and Oprah Winfrey.

With a cast like this we’re wondering if this interpretation of the Squad will be closer to Lee Marvin’s Dirty Dozen, a team made or more conflicted, morally gray, characters than the cold hearted killers of the comic books. Jared Leto’s transformation into the psychotic killer the Joker will be hotly anticipated. After Heath Ledger’s transformation blew all the naysayers away with his performance in Chris Nolans’ Dark Knight, the pressure must surely be on for the recent Oscar winner to come up with his own unique interpretation of the greatest of Batman’s rogues gallery of villains.

Now we’d like your input on which other villains Warner Brothers should include and who should play them. Don’t hold back! Feel free to use any villain ever! You want to include Dr. Doom? Throw him in. Maleficent? Her as well!

Post your ideas in the comments below

Warner Brothers have been actively developing a “Suicide Squad” movie for a few years, so DC Comics’s publishing arm decided to re-launch the title with the property geared closer to the territory the movie is headed. DC Comics extended an opportunity to community member Jeremy Roberts to help rebrand the story’s characters. Many years of hard work were beginning to pay off...

DC Comics extended an opportunity to community member JPRart to help rebrand the story’s characters. Many years of hard work were beginning to pay off…

Jeremy Roberts

Q: What do you consider your first break getting into the comics industry?

I got my start working at a small studio in Toronto. They didn’t need another artist, but they did need a colorist. So, I started coloring! I wanted to work in comics more than anything else, and this was my chance. That got me some published work and a few good sample pages, which eventually landed me an amazing job with Sotocolor Graphics, a virtual art & illustration studio run by Chris Sotomayor. I was a big fan of the work he was doing on Captain America with Andy Kubert. Chris is an amazing colorist, he’s still one of the best in the business. So, it was an incredible opportunity. I got to learn by coloring backgrounds on titles like Noble Causes, Captain Marvel or the Avengers. Then, that lead to coloring characters, or coloring an entire book on my own like Lockjaw and the Pet Avengers. I even got to paint some covers. We did art for movies like Captain America and Thor or the Avengers Assemble cartoon show. It was an unbelievably exciting time, and the work was always fun!

After working as a colorist for about 10—15 years, I still had dreams of drawing comic books. So, when DC announced that they were holding an Open Talent Search, it was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. I sent in my Harley Quinn sample page and a few months later I get a phone call from Jim Lee telling me that I got the job. My sample page was published in Harley Quinn #0, alongside a dozen legendary comic creators. A couple months later, I got to draw the final issue of Stormwatch, and as a long time Wildstorm fan, that was a dream come true! Then they offered me the chance to relaunch Suicide Squad, and I was thrilled.”

Q: You seem equally at home doing Pixar styled artwork as well as Suicide Squad, do you have a preference to draw stylistically?

That’s interesting, because I've never really felt like I have a particular style. Personally, I enjoy experimenting with a lot of different art styles and techniques. I think that its also very important to be able to adapt your art to the needs of a specific project. The work that I do on a comic book like Suicide Squad requires a completely different set of skills than the work I’ve done for Disney. I feel very fortunate to have worked on a lot of different things, because its really helped me to learn and grow as an artist.”

Q: Do you work completely digital or are you still doing some level of the work traditionally?

I actually started out working traditionally. I didn’t really have any computer experience before I started working as a professional. But, these days my art is entirely digital. I use a Wacom Cintiq 21UX and I mostly work in Photoshop and Manga Studio. I use 3ds max and Zbrush for 3d work and some illustration.”

Q: Now you’ve finished your run on Suicide Squad what’s up next? DC or Marvel?

Right now, I’m finishing up a series of books for Warner Bros. I haven’t decided what my next comic book project will be, but I'm eager to get back to monthly comic work. I’m not sure if it will be DC or Marvel, I am just keeping my options open at the moment.”

Q: Do you have plans to do a project of your own at some point?

That’s something that I have seriously considered over the years. I actually have a couple sketches in my gallery of things that I’ve created, and there is a huge backlog of ideas stored on my hard drive. I just don’t know if I’ll ever actually publish any of it.”

Q: Do you get the time to explore other forms of art? If money was no object would you be painting landscapes or taking photographs?

I usually use my free time to try and improve my art or learn a some new skill. But, if I had unlimited time and resources, I’d probably be creating animation. It’s something that has always fascinated me.”

Q: What was the biggest experience or event that set you on the path to want to work in this field?

There wasn’t really one event that lead me to this career. It was a lot of little things over many years.  I’ve been drawing for as long as I can remember. I grew up on 80’s cartoons, Disney movies, and action figures. In the 90’s it was X–Men, Tim Burton’s Batman, Image Comics and computer animation. When I was in high school, there was an art club that would meet after school on Wednesdays. We’d look at comics, draw, watch anime, or just talk, and that was incredibly important. But, the most influential thing was probably Gen 13, it was a hugely popular comic that came around at exactly the right moment, it basically changed everything for me. That was when I realized that THIS is what I want to do with the rest of my life!”

Q: Is there a particular inspirational piece of advice you have for aspiring artists who aspire to work in comics?

For me, it took 15 years, a lot of hard work, and determination. But, I'm proof that anyone can achieve their dreams, it just might take a while.”

Your Thoughts

  1. Now is the time for you to play Hollywood producer, so tell us your character and casting choices for Suicide Squad!

The current squad of team members on DC Comics pulls from an ignominious list of shady characters including Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Vixen, King Shark, El Diablo, Iceberg, Deathstroke, Black Manta, Cheetah, Captain Boomerang, and even the Joker’s daughter. “Amanda Waller” leads this secret “Dirty Dozen”–styled team of cons and villains whom the government can activate as mercenaries for risky missions. If caught or killed they can be completely disavowed. In return these convicts get time off of their prison sentences. This neatly explains why so many villains roam the DC Universe mere months after being captured.
