Let's rememberThe following note is a bit scattered, but I wanted to share some of my memories from Sept 11th. Feel free to share your own experiences below.
Ten years ago today I was standing underneath the vaulting ceiling in Westminster Abby, sketching the face of a marble angel on the tomb of a young woman. His empty, opaque eyes were focused on the upturned face of the girl he was reaching out to. He had a beautiful face. The sculptor had captured a sense of peace in the pale, frozen features, and I wanted very much to capture it. I remember my neck beginning to hurt from looking up when my sister came hurrying up to me. "We have to go," she said urgently. "Dad said something really bad happened in New York." My family found each other and huddled together as my dad briefly explained what had happened. A priest had approached him and, after asking if he was an American, had told him the news. My dad had had to go to a pub down the street in order to watch (the second tower fell as soon as the b

So I just received this note to my inbox here on DA:
"David you are a blessed young man with TREMENDOUS talent ppl can only hope to aspire to but a spirit that has been hurt by so many ppl over "who you are". If u trusted and believed God like u say you do then trust Him when He says youre sexuality is not okay. u get scared because you dont know howw to"get rid of it" but its a spirit, i garuntee you. A member of a local church i know of had been delivered from that homosexual spirit that plauged Him for years!!! You may think it cant be done but if you believe in Jesus Christ and have accepted Him then there is NOTHING He can't do!!I say this with all the Love in my heart. God wants to bless you and turn you into a message for lost souls all around too^^"
How lovely it is to see that people hid their true thoughts behind compliments and smiley faces...

It will propagate out to other sites when Smashwords gets around to it, so Nook, Kobo, and (god willing) iBooks versions will be coming soon. (Watch this space! Or Twitter!) If you're impatient, however, you can get an ePub version on Smashwords that will work just fine on an iPad. (Easiest way is to either buy it and e-mail it to yourself, or buy it using the iPad.)
Now, as to what the story is about…well, it's about goblins. And Sings-to-Trees the elf. (Remember him? This takes place before the Elf/Orc thing, though, although it includes most of the text of the short little bit "An Evening With Sings-To-Trees.")
This is a small epic fantasy, if that makes any sense. It is fun<

I thought I was a good artist before I was. I acted like a professional before I was. I put out my first instructional video before I started working professionally. I was working professionally when I didn't know what I was doing. I acted like an extrovert when I was an introvert. I acted like a businessperson when I hadn't made a dime. I acted like a marketer when I hadn't sold anything.

Yom Kippur - A Day of Soul Searching...I've always been asking myself, what is a more difficult act?Yom Kippur - A Day of Soul Searching...2 years ago in Personal More Like This
To ask someone for forgiveness - saying you're sorry, admitting you were wrong? Or is it harder to actually forgive someone when they're asking for your forgiveness - when they're sorry, when you know they've done you wrong?
In both matters it's all about our Ego, and how much it controls us, or rather how much are we in control over it.
Last week was the great holiday of Rosh Hashanah - the begging of the new Hebrew year. For the passed months I've been heaving some serious problems which had a great effect on my health and last week it's gotten really bad. But I have my loving family and my amazing friends to see me through all of this.
Tonight, we mark the holy day of Yom Kippur, - ("The Day of Atonement") - which, to most Jewish people is conceived as the day where we need to suffer in order for God to forgive us for the bad things we've done last year. I don't see it that way at all... I never believed God wants us to s
Review of the Yiynova MSP19U tablet monitorI love it.Review of the Yiynova MSP19U tablet monitor2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Last week I purchased a Yiynova MSP19U, a 19″ pressure-sensitive tablet monitor. After the fantastic review by Frenden this tablet monitor has gotten a lot of internet attention. Wacom has utterly dominated the field, leaving little room for competitors. But there's a new kid on the block.
The MSP19U is a worthy competitor. It's not perfect. But it's darn good.
It's not the greatest presentation. If you're looking for a slick, Apple-like packaging… look elsewhere. All you'll get here is simple instructions with more Engrish than you can shake a stick at.
The device itself is great. It's sturdy, well-constructed and has a nice screen on it. It's more lightweight and portable than any Cintiq I've used. I was quite comfortable sitting on my bed with this thing in my lap. I'm pretty sure a Cintiq would have crushed my pelvis.
I like the colors better than any Cintiq I've used. I've found Cintiqs to have unusually dull colors (even when calibrated). Th
1000 Words, Sincerest ApologiesFor those who pre-ordered copies of 1000 Words, I'm deeply sorry that your order has not arrived yet. It has been an extremely stressful week for me to finally receive the shipment from the printers at Active Media Publishing http://www.activemediapublishing.com/ after such a long delay which cost us to miss Fanime, only to find out that the books were far below the expected quality.1000 Words, Sincerest Apologies3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Not only did the colors come out neon yellow and even green in some parts, there were large ink smudges on 50% of the books, while another 50% had uneven spines.
This is how the books came out. Neon yellow.
Note: colors may vary depending on your monitor screen so it may not look too bad on certain computers, but it looks bad in real life.
And then there are smudges that you can find on the right side of every other book. The scanner actually made the smudges less obvious, but again, it looks very bad in real life.
Finally, half of the books had varying degrees of uneven printing on the spines that is symm

I had never seen anywhere so flat, coming from the rolling hills of Dalian, China. The roads were so wide. There were giant cattails planted in the median. In strange moments like this, you remember the weirdest things. The streets were spotlessly clean yet void of people. Having no concept of "suburb", for many days, we got up groggily from the foam mattress on the floor of our new and empty apartment, looked out to a quiet world with almost no pedestrians, wondering if somehow 911 scared everybody into hiding.
We brought a small pot with us. A friend drove us to grocery. We had our first meal of noodles, sitting on the floor. Everything seemed expensive in the grocery store, except for chicken legs, eggs, lettuce, and coca-cola.
The day we finally received our shipment of belongings from China, I felt like d
What's the point of the 'report' buttonI rarely report copyright violations of my work. There are too many of them and I don't have the time nor do I care enough to report them all... When I do however, like today, I always seem to get a response that hasn't addressed the issue at all.. Example.. today I get a message back from my violation report asking me to submit a DMCA takedown notice... (isn't reporting a violation of my own work essentially the same thing?) why do they even staff employees to work on copyright issues if all they do is tell you to submit a DMCA takedown. Seems like they want to send you through the extra trouble so that you just let it go so they don't have to delete anything. I for one am not really all that concerned about theft of my low res images, but It's a big deal to a lot of people, and out of principle for me, I find it really unprofessional... You'd think a site dedicated purely for art would take the matter a little more seriously. What's the point of the 'report' button3 years ago in Personal More Like This

So yesterday I went to my town fair with some friends and we ended up not sleeping at all.
So of course in the morning/next day because well... no sleeping, me and my friend Emily went to get coffees for everyone.
We rolled up to the Starbucks and its almost fall so I'm like yearning for a pumpkin spice latte. I knew they wouldn't have one though because its still august so we get to the order station and the barista with this super suave voice comes through and I'm just like
"oh yes, can I get a vanilla spice latte?" and the guy is like ooh sorry, we don't have that anymore! But we do have pumpkin spice.
I made a total commotion and when I finally settled down I was all calm like "Heck yes I would like a pumpkin spice."
He started laughing and we ordered the rest of the drinks and he asked if I wanted him to name the cups so I wouldn't get confused. I was feeling really good so I did the stupidest possible thing and was just like "This is the FO of the starship Enterprise."
How To Photograph Your CraftsThe absolute number one cause of rejection of DD suggestions for most Artisan Craft CVs is poor photography. There is nothing worse than seeing an otherwise brilliant piece ruined by a dodgy photo. But even beyond DD acceptance, if you want to people on dA to be able to appreciate your skill you need to be able to show your work off to advantage. How To Photograph Your Crafts2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Sometimes I'll tell a self-suggester that I can't feature their work because of the quality of the photography and they'll inevitably reply, "Oh, I'll have to get a better camera."
Repeat after me: the tools never make the artist.
You don't need a $9000 sewing machine to stitch a dress, you don't need a $1000 stand mixer to bake a cake, and you similarly don't need a top of the range SLR to take a brilliant photograph. It's all in how you take the photo.
To help us understand photography concepts a little more, Fella is going to help us out. Say hi Fella!

Like some of you know, I've been giving drawing workshops every now and then for the past 2 years. Nothing too serious. I don't even get paid for it (aside from an occasional artbook or fanart drawing). I was there because of passion. Beca

10 types of designers who do not deserve respectDesigners who do not deserve respect10 types of designers who do not deserve respect1 year ago in Personal More Like This
For today's post I made a small selection of 10 types of designers, which in my opinion does not deserve respect. Surely you have seen most of them. Before "mimimi" I would like to point out that the title of the post highlights just these kinds of designers do not deserve respect for not doing earned, which is not to say that we should all treat them with disrespect. So check it out!
It is the kind of designer who lives spreading advertising on social networks in the most uncomfortable way, either of his drawings, fan page, blog, etc. Your opportunism leads him to disclose through repeated comments made in posts from other fan pages. The final effect ends up being the opposite; after all, pe
Commission InfoI thought I'd update my commission journal, as the old one is wayyy outdated! Currently I'm open for any kind of commission. If you're interested in something but aren't sure what it would cost, just ask me, I don't bite! You can pay in either Euros or US Dollars, though I prefer Euros.Commission Info4 years ago in Personal More Like This
I make plushies on a regular basis. Most of the ones that are posted in my gallery are for sale. If you're interested in one you can ask me if it's for sale and what it would cost. However, pushies of my own characters are not for sale.
But of course, you can commission me to make you a plushie of your own OC or your favourite animal, whatever you may wish! Pricing is not set for these kind of commissions because it depends a lot on the size and complexity of the character.
The general price is $10 per inch. So a 7 inch red fox would cost 70 US Dollars. What exactly I mean by the size you can see here: http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii134/Avanii/Plushiepricings.jpg F
Devious Journal Entry"We Miss You" ContestDevious Journal Entry4 years ago in Personal More Like This
My dear good friend *PutYourBraveFaceOn :iconputyourbravefaceon: has made the
third edition of the "We Miss You" Contest. I think that the theme can be atractive
for many of us in dA community.
"We Miss You" is a yearly contest held by *PutYourBraveFaceOn (:iconputyourbravefaceon and *Alligatorr (:iconalligatorr made for the ones dear to us that passed away. It is a tribute to those who changed our lives in one way or another; it is a message, a way of coping with our loss, of saying thanks and of expressing our deepest feelings through art; it is an unburied or unspoken secret, the song of our hearts, the unseen tear, a piece of our broken soul. It is everything you want it to be, as long as it is related to a dead person or an animal companion. I know that "dead" may seem like a harsh word and we usually try to avoid it, because it hurts too much by making it all too real, but in the past "We Miss You" Contests not all the people got the point otherwise.

What are P2U Deviations?
They're deviations that ask you for a points' price to download their content, hence the 'Purchase' Button. Many of them are downloadable bases, but some are high resolution, unwatermarked versions of the previews everybody can see and favourite. In other cases, it's simply a way to pay for an adoptable or to purchase a custom, it really depends on what the deviation's owner wants to do.
Example of a P2U Base:
Can everybody use the P2U option?
Not currently. Right now it's available to Beta Testers only. This means you need a Premium Membership (paid account) and an active Beta Testing option (free). The dA staff has however said that this feature will be available to everyone and not just to Premium Users. This means that people just need to wait until all the bugs have been worked out and the Platform is released to the public. No, I

You are buying hundreds of hours of experimentation and thousands of failures. You are buying days, weeks, months, years of frustration and moments of pure joy.
